Yeah, the individual wants and needs of a consumer don't matter. Everyone's buying the iPhone, yay! I better shut up and just do what the rest do, regardless of my individual opinion. Lol.

BTW, I bet the other Android makers would love to have the numbers of Samsung's "flop." Sure.

Not that many individuals want what The s9, kind of the whole point with measuring sales.

I don’t believe you would ever use an iPhone or an Apple product, it’s clear how much you hate Apple and their customers, you refer to them as “sheep”.

You could do that or you can stop embarrassing yourself by posting ridiculous opinions labeled as fact then proceed to play the victim when reality doesn’t match up.

You mean the same android makers that copied the notch. Yeah I bet those companies and their customers are loving Samsung ads bashing them as well.

You would lose that bet.
They would rather have apples profit-share than Samsung’s market share.

Isn’t that the whole problem with the android market right now? They sell tons of phones, but each device earns them very little profit. To the point that apart from android and apple, every other OEM is losing money on average.

Yes and each sell differently in different markets.
For Korean manufacturers;
Us accounts for volume sales while Korea counts for high margin.

I don’t agree to disagree. Saying something is “flawed from the get go” without detailing why is tantamount to admitting you’re wrong and have nothing relevant to add to the discussion. Bye.

Ok Bye. You should go back and re read my original post btw.

And I never said “something” was flawed. I said your post was flawed from the get go. Which it was.

The original argument was you claiming the adds were in fact different. Which they clearly are not. Maybe the style, but the point of both marketing campaign is VERY much the same. Like I said agree to disagree.

People who drive the Industry forward are the people that don't fall in line and just keep buying whatever a company is selling them. You can thank the millions of Samsung buyers that made big screen OLED phones a thing. Because we all know, Apple wasn't going there, and their blind loyalist weren't pushing Apple to go their either. Fact.
One more time, stop embarrassing yourself.

What evidence is there that it works? Heck what evidence do we have that the Mac vs PC ads worked? Apple’s market share in that industry is still single digits.

Dude, there are countless studies about different forms of advertising including comparative advertising.

Dell is credited with the first phablet not Samsung. There have been phablets between the dells unit and the note btw.

Sure Apple wasn’t going their because they weren’t peddling screens,You know Samsung’s other business. I believe at the time Apple was helping design usb-c, they are the reason it’s reversible, you know what is now found on every android device and a bunch of others.
Some would say that is driving the industry forward, but hey you keep pushing opinion as fact. Dex and bixby all the way.

You keep acting like everyone copies Samsung, but no is copying their curved screens, or the stylus or really anything about them.

Apple adds a capacitive fingerprints scanner and suddenly every fingerprint technology other than capacitive has stopped to exist and the entire industry starts to offer it. Same with removing the 3.5mm jack, the notch , 3D facial recognition, virtual assistant and the list goes on and on. Apple leads and the industry follows, to claim other wise at this point is just ignorant.

But the company that really popularized large screens wasn’t the note, it was the Apple with the iPhone plus, because they sold more and the industry followed.

Just check sales sales:

In January 2013, IHS reported that 25.6 million phablet devices were sold in 2012.
“In Q1 2014, phablets made up 6% of US smartphones sold. In the first quarter of 2015, phablets accounted for 21% of all smartphones sold in the US, with the iPhone 6 Plus making up 44 percent of those phablets sold.”

This sums it up pretty well.

You should heed your own advice.

.

Are you seriously trying to claim that it's Apple who popularised the phablets? They were basically last to the market.

You were very selective in items you quoted from the Wikipedia article.
Notably
"In January 2013, IHS reported that 25.6 million phablet devices were sold in 2012 and estimated that these figures would grow to 60.4 million in 2013, and 146 million by 2016"
The growth in 2013 prediction based purely on Android sales.

Also
"In September 2013 International Data Corporation (IDC) reported that its research indicated that phablets "overtook shipments of both laptops and tablets in Asia in the second quarter of 2013"

By 2013, all the major Android manufacturers were selling phablets.

Your figure the of 44% of US phablet sales in Q1 of 2015 were Apple meant that 56% were Android :)

How exactly did the industry "follow Apple" after it belatedly released a phablet phone?

Yes popularized not first.

And since they launched the 6 and 6 plus the industry followed with the formula. Even Samsung in 2015 relaunched thier galaxy s line with an a s6 edge and an s6edge plus.

Selective?
If I was being selective I wouldn’t have posted the source.

Yes I left out the prediction that never came true. I just left the reported number which is 25.6 million ........out of 1.75 billion smart phones.

Which is basically my point.
In 2012 it was still phablets were a niche market.

Keep in mind in 2012 phones larger 5 inches were considered phablets.

Yes you make it seem like that is a large number, unfortunately 25.2million phablets out of 119 million smartphone in q2 just isn’t a large number to constitute as popular. It’s still growing but still a niche.

“Device makers shipped 25.2 million phablets in Asia/Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ) in the second quarter of 2013, compared with 12.6 million tablets, and 12.7 million laptops.”

Apple is a vendor, android is an operating system.

I stand by what I said earlier Apple was the vendor that popularized the phablet.

Every oem has a flagship line with two devices.
A standard model and a plus size after the iPhone 6 and 6 plus, not the note with its stylus. Ironically Samsung is rumored to drop the note line completely next year.

And Apple will release three phones this year.
Care to bet this time next year that every oem, or the industry will add a third handset to their flagship line.

Trust me when I say, don't waste your time with presenting facts. To some, Apple is the sole reason for anything in the mobile space. It's an ever moving goal post with these people.

There is so much delusion in this post which really renders it not worthy of a response
However, if 25.2 million phablets out of 119 million total smartphone sales or 21% isn't popular (seriously), where does that leave Apple with their 10% share of the laptop market?

Popular, Latin from popularus, from populus
Or 'people’, you know like population or the majority. Popular is greater than 50%.
20% is niche. 25 million is a drop in the bucket for android and all their manufacturers

Samsung only sold 50 million units of the galaxy note range from 2011 to 2013.

Apple sold more iPhone 8 plus’s in a quarter than all phablets in 2013. Two quarters would equal three years worth of galaxy note sales.

So yeah it’s not even close. Numbers don’t lie.

You just waffle from post to post.
How could Apple popularize the phablet when they haven't sold more than 50% of the smartphone market. By your posted definition :)

You keep comparing one vendor against an industry, Apple vs android.
Truth is, No other vendor sells as many phones at their respective price points as Apple does.

Just like apple popularized multitouch capacitive touchscreens, capacitive fingerprint sensors the notch, the removal of the 3.5mm jack, and non removable batteries etc. Etc.

I was stating that you claimed Apple popularised the phablet. By your definition, Apple would need to sell enough phablets to be more than 50% of total smartphone sales, to popularise the phablet.

Many Apple fans claim that Apple popularized things in the smartphone and pc market. But when have Apple sold any product to or feature that accounted to more than 50% of whatever market that applied to.

50% marketshare in the in the price range they sell in, which is 700 dollars and up.

In 2018 nobody really gets a phablet, they get the plus,

FIRST: What you originally wrote doesn’t make sense:

“One overpriced phone with a Mickey Muse OS making fun of another overpriced phone with a Mickey Mouse OS

This is like Mcdonald's making fun of Burger King.”

If anything, it would be like Burger King (#2) making fun of McDonalds (#1). Except that even a Burger King doesn’t do that, because they have more pride and brand awareness than Samsung.

SECOND: Suggesting that either an iPhone or Galaxy, two of the most advanced, refined, and popular products in the history of consumer goods are “garbage” is pure nonsense.
[doublepost=1533009457][/doublepost]
1. I never said that because the Apple ads were better that they were different.

2. I outlined, very precisely, what made the Apple ads different. The fact that you were confused by this is surprising.

3. I also mentioned that the entire marketing industry thought the Apple ads were better, the best of an entire decade.

4. So I made it clear, in two separate points, that the Mac vs. PC ads were both different and better, for separate reasons.

5. I find it hard to believe you were paying close attention—you conflated two campaigns that were wildly different in strategy, execution, tone, market impact and brand building.

6. I wouldn’t take any marketing class where you were handing out grades.
[doublepost=1533010004][/doublepost]
Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion about the ads. Personally, I don’t care for them or find them funny, because to me humor is about revealing the truth, not obscuring it.
[doublepost=1533010538][/doublepost]This article does a nice job of highlighting why these Samsung ads are a failure both strategically and creatively:

Not sure what the point of this random link is. This is a small time, one-off promotion that a verrry limited number of people were probably even aware of (I’m guessing you had never heard of it until you googled it). Companies often do funny little promotions on April fools day or Halloween and will sometimes pull the leg of one of their competitors. This is very different than the massive, national smear campaign of misinformation that Samsung is waging against Apple, with tens of millions of dollars being spent in national media buys on major networks over an extended period of time.

And it looks like this promotion was not even in the United States (maybe England?) so the corporate guidelines about branding, and what is and isn’t acceptable are very different.

Again, not sure how this is relevant to the above discussion. This was a silly, fun jab from one brand to another that is utterly toothless. If you have a clip where Burger King running National television commercials claiming that McDonald’s makes their burgers from Mad Cows, then feel free to forward that.

Your argument is wrong. Period. The ads are very different in style, tone & manner. This is not a subjective opinion, it is an objective fact. And it has been reiterated numerous times by some of the top journalists in the communications field. I will often agree to disagree in matters of opinion, but not in matters of fact. Your argument is bankrupt. It has no merit. There is no agreement.

Sorry, but I won’t just let this go. My original thread was dead on.

The only difference between the old Mac ads and Samsung’s ads were the ones Apple made were better. That’s it.

The marketing campaign is the same, PERIOD.

I can’t wrap my head around the fact that you don’t understand that.

Didn’t I already say obviously the style is different? Duh they can’t completely rip off the idea of two people talking to each other, one representing a Mac, the other a PC.

The marketing is the same/ thus my original post, which does have like twenty something likes.
