Samsung this morning shared three new ads in its "Ingenius" series that's designed to make fun of the Apple Genius Bar while highlighting features that Samsung believes will lure people to its Galaxy S9 devices instead of one of Apple's iPhones.

The first ad makes fun of the notch on the iPhone X, with a customer who comes into the "Ingenius" bar asking the employee about the notch on the device, pointing out that it covers a portion of the display when watching a movie.

"It does still cover up some of the movie," says customer. "It takes time to get used to it," the employee responds before the ad cuts away to a family with notch-style haircuts.

While the Samsung Galaxy S9 has no notch, it does have top and bottom bezels, with the top bezel housing the camera, microphone, and ambient light sensor. Samsung has preferred to keep the two bezels rather than using the notch design that many Android smartphones have adopted from Apple.

In the second ad, "Storage," a customer asks the Ingenius Bar employee where the microSD slot is on the iPhone. "I can't find the microSD slot," she laments. "Yeah, that's because it doesn't have one," the employee replies. "Oh, Galaxy S9 has one," she responds before explaining that she doesn't want to store her content in the cloud.

In the third and final ad, a customer asks how to run two apps at once on the iPhone's display, something that's not possible. "I wanna know how to do the split screen because my sister was doing it on her Galaxy S9," she explains as the tech tells her that's not possible.

Multitasking on iOS devices is limited to the iPad, and while customers have asked for it to be ported to the larger screened phones, this is not something that Apple has implemented at the current time.

Samsung started sharing its new Ingenius ad campaign last week, in a video touting the Galaxy S9's faster LTE download speeds.

Samsung followed that initial ad with additional spots mocking the iPhone's lack of a headphone jack, the fact that it doesn't ship with the equipment necessary for fast charging, and that the iPhone received a lower DxOMark score than the Galaxy S9 for its camera capabilities.

They're mocking Apple retail with in store tech support. Why don't they set their commercial at a mall kiosk or corporate carrier phone store where you get service on a Samsung phone? So silly. No comparison.

You couldn’t say I was wrong or come with anything better so you took the Samsung route. Way to go

I didn't even see his post, but your post just brought attention to it. I'm sorry to say, it actually made me spit out my coffee. Lol.

You couldn't pay me to use a SumDung Galactic Sh*t product. Yes the S stands for sh*t.

You should consider to start packing your sh*t if it as good as Galaxy S? maybe even get a store-shelf place from a local Apple Store as a 3rd party miracle box being shipped daily as a fresh organic product produced locally.

This article is spot on. The comments to it are so predictable. Defend Apple in any way and omg you should put an i in front of your site name because you’re so biased.

Really? Have you ever seen the ignorant articles they write when it comes to Samsung. Here's just one example, they actually changed the title on this article because of the comments. But they didn't change the ignorant intro of the article.
The title originally was calling out Samsung for copying a charging accessory from Apple that DOESN'T EVEN EXIST.

https://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsungs-Wireless-Charger-Duo-price-specs-pictures_id106899

As you can see, Samsung already had a charging tray over a year ago.

The website is a joke. Try to find one article where it calls out Apple in a direct snarky way like they do to Samsung. So it's never just one article, it's a ongoing narrative this site, and many other sites have. Fanboys aren't limited to internet forums, they also write articles under the guise of being an objective writer of a tech website. Part of the reason this happens is well known in the industry. Say something bad about Apple, and risk being black listed by Apple. There are articles written about this.

Take a look up at the logo in the top left of the page. Note that it’s not an exploding washing machine or phone, or a corrupt CEO on the way to a 5 year prison sentence, then ask yourself if you came to the right place.

I will never understand why people come here expecting people to be singing the high praises of Samsung. If I head over to Android Central everyone will be fawning over Apple, right? No?

I will never understand why people quote a post and have no comprehension of it. Oh well.

They never did... that is the point. They booth garbage "fast food" so trying to demonstrate value by comparison is nonsensical.
FIRST: What you originally wrote doesn’t make sense:

“One overpriced phone with a Mickey Muse OS making fun of another overpriced phone with a Mickey Mouse OS

This is like Mcdonald's making fun of Burger King.”

If anything, it would be like Burger King (#2) making fun of McDonalds (#1). Except that even a Burger King doesn’t do that, because they have more pride and brand awareness than Samsung.

SECOND: Suggesting that either an iPhone or Galaxy, two of the most advanced, refined, and popular products in the history of consumer goods are “garbage” is pure nonsense.

lol are you serious? Just cause the Apple adds were better doesn’t make them different. Damn...

I payed close attention thanks!

Marketing 101 you fail.
1. I never said that because the Apple ads were better that they were different.

2. I outlined, very precisely, what made the Apple ads different. The fact that you were confused by this is surprising.

3. I also mentioned that the entire marketing industry thought the Apple ads were better, the best of an entire decade.

4. So I made it clear, in two separate points, that the Mac vs. PC ads were both different and better, for separate reasons.

5. I find it hard to believe you were paying close attention—you conflated two campaigns that were wildly different in strategy, execution, tone, market impact and brand building.

6. I wouldn’t take any marketing class where you were handing out grades.

I don't think the advert is supposed to be 100% true to life. Even in real life the retail employees never try to upsell in Apple stores. They usually listen to what the customer is saying they want the device for and then make suggestions based on the needs of the customer. They don't do the hard sell and I've never seen them try and upsell for the sake of it.

Maybe it's because I already know what I want when i go in there and all they do is assist me with the purchase but I've never observed them trying to push devices on people.

However back to this add does it need to be 100% accurate. It's a fun little advert that pokes fun at Apple. Even as an Apple customer I can find it funny.
[doublepost=1532670220][/doublepost]
As the ads have gone on I've grown to like the genius. He seems like a cool guy and he doesn't try and lie to the customers he tells the truth. Some of the customers are pretty insistent too but he never looses his cool.
Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion about the ads. Personally, I don’t care for them or find them funny, because to me humor is about revealing the truth, not obscuring it.
[doublepost=1533010538][/doublepost]This article does a nice job of highlighting why these Samsung ads are a failure both strategically and creatively:

Great article.

This is the best part:

“What's happening is Samsung is trying to play a finite game here – its objective is to win the battle of this smartphone generation, which comes at the expense of its own brand strength and integrity. Such unprovoked aggressive behavior is never typical of the winning side; it's most often exhibited by the losing team, which, realizing that the final seconds of the match are ticking away, starts playing in a rough and desperate, pissed off way. After the confident Galaxy S8 launch, surely the missed expectations for this year's Galaxy S9 have put some pressure on the consumer products team. But again, Samsung is not playing the game it should be playing, and its behavior is atypical for a gigantic tech company that's supposedly a market leader and innovator.”

They nailed it.

Hahahaha ok sure.
Phones arena is an android site through and through and even they can see how misleading these ads are.

Thanks for the article, didn’t know Samsung was already copying apple’s AirPower.

Now we know the point of all these anti-iPhone ads. Though I’m not sure iPhone is their problem.

Samsung Electronics profit growth slows as Galaxy S9 misses sales targets

SEOUL (Reuters) - Samsung Electronics Co Ltd <005930.KS> posted its slowest quarterly profit growth in more than a year on Tuesday as its Galaxy S9 device missed sales targets and competition heated up, casting doubt on its leadership of the smartphone market.

The Apple Inc (AAPL.O) components supplier and smartphone rival said operating profit from the mobile business recorded its steepest rate of decline since the first quarter of 2017, as cheaper Chinese-made handsets put pressure on margins.

Just one long ramble broken up into 6 parts lol...

You’re point about Samsung doing the same but different was flawed from the get go..

Sorry/

Agree to disagree I guess. I wasn’t made aware sidewinder3000 from MR was so market savvy lmao

Apple showed AirPower last year and then Samsung proceeded to copy it.
Even phones arena is admitting it and they are android all the way, you provided the link remember.

Samsung has a history of copying Apple it’s not only proven but Samsung admitted to it during its trial where Apple sued them and won.

The reasons for the commercial is obvious Samsung is having a terrible quarter selling phones.

Didn’t think it was that bad.

Again, you had a second chance to go over my post, yet you failed again to see what I actually posted in regards to "copying" AirPower (that is still not available.) Here's a hint, look at the second link.

I don’t agree to disagree. Saying something is “flawed from the get go” without detailing why is tantamount to admitting you’re wrong and have nothing relevant to add to the discussion. Bye.

Well I guess that settles it.

Both Apple and Samsung have reported thier quarterly earnings.
Samsung S9 is a flop and the most expensive iPhone ever is a hit.

Carry on mocking Apple for the notch, no micro sd cards and no headphone jack. Doesn’t seem to make a difference to Apple in the end.

Yeah, the individual wants and needs of a consumer don't matter. Everyone's buying the iPhone, yay! I better shut up and just do what the rest do, regardless of my individual opinion. Lol.

BTW, I bet the other Android makers would love to have the numbers of Samsung's "flop." Sure.

Their needs do matter. Your need is different. But apparently less consumers “need” Samsung's vision. Buy what you want along with everyone else. The numbers indicate the ads might not have connected with people. But, maybe without them, Samsung would have sold even fewer phones. The other makers probably wouldn’t want the 20% revenue drop that Samsung just experienced. Samsung is still a huge force. The topic here was about their series of ads. Maybe the ads should have come out sooner or sales don’t take into account the time needed for ads to be effective. The ads didn’t seem to create the momentum they should with their timing. Apple has new phones coming out very soon to overshadow whatever ad campaign Samsung decides to go with.
