Calling what Apple accomplished lazy is silly. You might not like the design, but it took difficult engineering to accomplish.

It is just perspective: you see the “notch”, I see the “horns”. Having that additional screen area is welcomed because it proves a place to hide status information, or buttons in games. Of course emulating that wedge of sensors would be ideal, but it isn’t possible today so why fault Apple for making a reasonable compromise?

It is especially silly to argue about the size of their displays. When all the phones are different aspect ratio, different shapes, and the sizes are usually measured diagonally… distance in any direction doesn’t matter. Screen area is the important measurement now.
It’s definitely a reasonable compromise. Even if I don’t like the fact that the notch encroaches on my video it has to be there because of all the sensors. There are only 4 ways to go. Top bezel and no bottom bezel, top and bottom bezel, a notch and no bottom bezel or a notch and a bottom bezel.

I think the design on the X and the S9 are very pleasing to look at. I prefer the X but the S9 with its bezel at the top and the bottom and curved sides is very nice.

On android your photos can be backed up to google photos in the same way as they are backed up to iCloud photos. You just turn the setting on and then they upload in the background without you having to do anything. It’s free you don’t have to pay for storage space.

When you want to share a photo you hit the share button in the Google photo app and you can share it via any messaging app you have installed on your phone or via email. The sharing options on android are more extensive than on iOS.
Ahh all right, that's nice then. I do pay a dollar a month for 50 Gigs on iCloud. Not terribly expensive, but still something.

On android the storage is free? As in unlimited storage?!

I have iPhone, iPad air2, iPad Pro and MacBook which I use on everyday. Couple days ago my iCloud was full (no, idont pay or plan to pay for getting bigger than 5gb iCloud which is ridiculous small) and I decided to delete couple of hundreds of photos and few videos from my iPhone to get rid of the annoying "iCloud is full, manage your iCloud... blablabla" every time I picked up my iPad Pro. And it took over the night to get my iPad Pro realising that I have deleted bunch of photos and videos and have over a gig free space on iCloud. There wasn't anything I could do with the iPad Pro to speed up the process. Then I went to internet to check if the iCloud is down or so and found many message during the past years which guides you to "let your device be over the night and they should be synced together". What? Over a night? What a crap! iCloud is always been pain-in-the-ass and it still is. When im using windows pc and icloud - syncing again - it never had worked well. I have never seen so slow working cloud - It doesnt matter if you are using wifi or data. If I need a cloud I prefer using Google (drive for example) or my own NAS and both are working perfectly what ever device I have on my hands.

I do pay a dollar a month for 50 GB storage option, which is more than enough for my purposes, I regularly offload photos to my personal NAS/backup drives. So that's true that you can't really use iCloud as your primary backup location, but then over the years I have accumulated about 700-800 GB of videos and photos which I don't want to delete. So if I want to use any cloud, I would have to pay.

On the usability front, it's pretty instant for me. Maybe upto 15 minutes within which my iOS devices get synced up.

Only for photos it’s free not other stuff. I think google drive give you about 15GB for free and then you have to pay. For photos you get unlimited uploads on google photos.

I pay £2.49 for iCloud per month storage and I think it’s worth it because I have a lot of Apple devices. I’ll probably have to go up to the next tier soon but it’s worth it. However I think some people need an SD card because the cloud or paying for more internal storage isn’t an option.

Are you just here to troll? I see no usefulness with any of your snarky smart-a$$ comments.
[doublepost=1532747553][/doublepost]
I meant exactly what i said in the first comment. My point is iPhone is viewed AS A LUXURY ITEM. MOST PEOPLE who don’t own iPhones and use different brands assume they’re expensive, HENCE it being a luxury brand. YES. We somewhat tech savvy people know that most iPhones ARE AFFORDABLE.

Don’t compare cars that has nothing to do with the discussion.

Some people might think Samsung or LG or whichever company is luxury. Doesn’t mean that it is.

My whole point was PERCEPTION.
THANKS.
[doublepost=1532747981][/doublepost]
So you totally made a comparison of a laptop keyboard to the water resistance of a smartphone and who makes iPhone X’s screen. It’s an APPLE DESIGNED, SAMSUNG MANUFACTURED SCREEN. Everyone knows that. Wtf are you talking about? What are you trying to prove? To me when you talk about specs like ip68 vs ip67 you’re a troll. I just saw a water depth comparison between iPhone X and either galaxy S8 or 9 dunked in a river over 20 feet down. Guess which one survived? The lower ip67 rated iPhone X. Check it out on everythingapplepro YouTube.
[doublepost=1532748552][/doublepost]
Actually they were leaked due to weak passwords.
[doublepost=1532748759][/doublepost]
I pay 0.99 for 50 gigs of iCloud storage.
How much would a 50 gig SD cost??
How much would 50gb extra storage in an iPhone cost?

Ask yourself one question, does Samsung sell micro sd cards?

Yeah Of course their phones would have it, but if you look at google’s vision of android, the pixel, if doesn’t have Micro sd.

You can get a cheap one that has slow read and write speeds and prone to corruption or go for a more expensive one, but they can’t compare to the read write speeds found inside the iPhones.

Apple eventually adopts the technologies from Android, it just takes time:
  • Phablet form factor
  • Pencil
  • Dual-SIM

When split-screen comes to iPhone 6.5", the same consumers who dismissed it will be praising it to no end.

I am a Mac fan, but love my Note. Screen size, stylus, dual SIM, SD card, split screen. All 'for me' immensely useful.
[doublepost=1532773383][/doublepost]
Same!

I’d most likely go Google, Moto or LG. Hell I’d get a Sony or Nokia all before I buy Samsung.

Curious - why?

I honestly don't think the S9 not being a hot seller is going to do too much to their bottom line. Lighten up :)

Obviously not. That's why they feel the need to spend on silly advertisement that shows nothing about their product but rather focus on competitors product!

10 bucks say samsungs next phone will have a notch.
I don't _like_ the notch. But if there is no technology that can integrate a camera (and whatever else you want in the screen area) behind a working screen, the notch gives you the largest possible usable space with a given phone size. So given the choice between notch and less space, I'll take the notch.

There are plenty of Android phones already with a notch, for exactly the same reason as the iPhone. So Samsung has the choice now to deliver a phone with a notch and eat crow, or deliver a phone without a notch and with less usable screen space. (There is one phone with a camera that comes out of the phone. Nice idea, but it did look a bit flimsy and I wouldn't expect it to last for long. Someone will forget to put the camera back in the phone, put the phone back in their pocket, and have the phone broken, because people are stupid).

And that's the most stupid way you can do marketing. It pleases the fanboys who are buying anyway, so no gain there. Just makes them more obnoxious and off-putting. "Normal" Samsung customers (95%) will be put off. Non-Samsung Android customers will be put off. Apple customers will obviously be put off and if you find an Apple customer wanting to switch to Android, Samsung will be the one manufacturer they are not going to switch to.

You don't have to own android to use Google Cloud. Even Apple uses Google Cloud services to store your data :D

Only for photos it’s free not other stuff. I think google drive give you about 15GB for free and then you have to pay. For photos you get unlimited uploads on google photos.

Actually it is also free for videos upto 1080p. So you get an unlimited cloud for photos (16mp) and videos (1080p) for free. Google gives 15gb for others (for example higher resolutions photos and other files). And google apps sync them (photos app and drive app) with all your devices. I use Google Drive with all devices I have and they are synced together without any delay. And for photos, I primary use my NAS and an app to access them from any device I use. Photos taken with an iPhone for example goes straight to the NAS - so I don't actually need iCloud for sharing them between devices, but it's turned on anyway.

I used to own a chromebook and so I got 200 GB of drive storage for free. Once the free storage ended. I could still access all my files but couldn’t upload anymore. I know Pay about £1.79 a month for 100GB of google drive storage. I’m actually using google drive to back up my MacBook Air.

Cos he thinks he's being disloyal to Apple... As if they care, plus someones a tad too eager to get likes from folk hes never met.. bit cringing really...

Apple used to do the same thing against Microsoft, hopefully you were equally offended then. :)

All valid criticisms on Samsung's part.

Indeed ... yet you can pry my iPhone X out of my cold dead hands in favor of the latest Samsung Galaxy. The iPhone X is the best smart phone I’ve ever owned. Expensive? Yep. Worth every penny. My wife and I don’t have kids, aren’t planning to have any, we don’t live in a McMansion and we don’t drive expensive cars. Budget not withstanding in my view there isn’t a better phone than the X.

Does Samsung make any earbuds as good as the AirPods? Does Samsung offer 256GB (soon to be 512GB) of fast internal storage? SD card speeds are much lower. Does Samsung manufacture great notebooks and tablets that perfectly compliment one another?

Samsung should focus on letting their products speak for themselves. Constantly comparing themselves to Apple is a sign of insecurity and weakness.

I’m pretty sure Apple compares to Android on their switch ads. And yes, products should speak for a company, they tell a lot of things about Apple also.

Not to offend you or anything (and this is one of the biggest misconception when it comes to this kind of advertisement)

Let me correct (educate) you

The add was called "I am Mac and I am PC" Pc products where made by too many manufacturers. Same as to many manufacturers make Android phones now days. Back on that time Microsoft did not make PC hardware. They only made Windows, the operating system for PC'S. So no, they never went against a single company, like Shamy is doing. And not to side with Apple but there was some class there. Apple did never ridiculed PC users. It was aimed more to PC platform in general. And here we have stupid Samsung advertising department just embarrassing themselves. Not sure what makes them thing this add is gonna improve their S9 sale!! The ones into iOS platform will only be pissed off more by this, even if they ever had a second thought of buying their S9! I used S8, i am open to switching back and forth on both platforms but I seriously considering not giving my money to Samsung... like ever. Unless they change.

I agree with the split screen multitasking though. Hopefully, it will come with iOS 12 now that Apple will launch a 6.5" device.[/QUOTE]

I never need split screen on my phone. why would I want 2 screens that are 2 inches? to look at what? LMAOO

THOSE are not technologies....a stylus isn't android technology. the NEWTON used a stylus. WACOM, and adonis have made styli for IPAD since the iPad came out. "phablet" form factor isn't android technology. Dual SIM isn't android technology AND you have no PROOF that there is an iPhone that will have dual sim anyway....fall back

So clever of Samsung to advertise the lack of a feature the iPhone has never had and corporate has basically said never will.
[doublepost=1532898785][/doublepost]
Samsung wouldn't want to show their products in these ads. They're stepping on Apple in these negative ads.

Marketing 101.

It is possible to step on the competition and only show your own product

With a 6.5" device in landscape you would have two screens larger than the pre iPhone 5 phones. :) Were pre iPhone5 phones no use?
