Yep, Apple lost and is scrambling to get it’s services of the ground. 2019 will be interesting. Seen the pace of Apple’s developments since 2012, I’m holding my breath though.I believe the court fights are long over .

Right? I guess they’re just trying to sell services and sell them everywhere, like when they put Apple Music on Echo devices.Do I even need an Apple TV at this point
Is that an opinion on the apple tv or a fact? The entire post is a straw man.Tim's philosophy is if you can't charge 3 times the standard industry margin why bother
And no one is buying a $300 Apple TV
It’s long overhauled. Years of neglect to its soft- and hardware has taken its toll. With so much better choices these days, I’m afraid its too little too late.I absolutely think we are seeing the early beginnings of Apple repositioning itself as a brand.

1. They should have opened AirPlay 2 long time ago
2. Sounds like to me they will kill AppleTV 4K soon.
We are in a very sad state of Apple hardware ecosystem.
Need is subjective, but there is more to the Apple TV than casting and iTunes. It is also a great platform for other streaming services that integrates nicely with your phone/watch control center. IMO it is much better than Samsung’s native apps are on my (2016) TV.Do I even need an Apple TV at this point
Well said!I absolutely think we are seeing the early beginnings of Apple repositioning itself as a brand.
Haven't seen any Smart TV functionality that isn't a bag of hurt up to this day, they all suck, over complicated, slow, don't always work ... Chromecast and AppleTV are a bit better but not that great either.Meanwhile my 2016 model is left in the dust. The Smart TV functionality is such a bag of **** on mine that I doubt I will buy another Samsung. I've replaced the functionality with a Chromecast Ultra but it would be nice to have support for the Apple stuff.

are there any inventive ways to do without the Apple TV and stream movies in 5.1 from your computer? EG, do these TV's have Plex or similar?
