It’s pretty clear now Samsung did this just for the wow factor and didn't really see this through. I won’t be surprised if it’s totally scrapped.

There are two players in this saga. One is Samsung Electronics, the people who came up with the display. That's innovative, in that they found a way to create something neat. The second is Samsung Mobile, the ones who tried to productize the display.

There is apparently a severe disconnect between divisions, in that Mobile believed the screen was ready for prime time. It's unclear what the electronics division said about the readiness of the foldable display.

We'll see who's head rolls over this. It will become a mistake worth tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars. More importantly it's a major embarrassment for Samsung.

Seems I’m a little late to this thread.

I’m guessing people are still doing anything they can to talk about bending iPads, membrane keyboards or any other Apple problem to deflect away from this garbage Samsung device. Just like all the other Galaxy Fold threads.

The Galaxy Fold is a worthless device. Android tablets are useless due to software issues. So this device is nothing but a tiny phone with huge bezels that unfolds into an Android tablet. Whoever though this was a good idea?

No but they did announce the product as "coming soon". I didn't say it wasn't a direct comparison. People are so literal sometimes.

Just that all companies have public failures. Yes, Samsung have dropped a QC bollock here yet again, but it's nowhere near the catastrophic Note debacle. Rather than people enjoying schadenfreude (imagine there's as many doing that here judging by comments, as at Apple Park), it's a shame as this sort of thing doesn't really benefit the consumer in driving tech forward.

Apple introduced AirPower as a “sneak peek”, betting that they’d be able to resolve the engineering issues they were facing. They couldn’t, so they scrapped it as they should have. It never got to the point of release dates and review units. Not sure why people keep bringing this up. It’s exactly what Samsung SHOULD have done, but didn’t.

Well that would be an opinion, totally irrelevant and can be safely ignored.
I'll leave the pigs and lipstick to you as you seem to be an expert on that subject.
Come back when you have some facts that can be objectively discussed.
“Seem” that’s the prime example of opinion. And of course ignorant means tend to ignore. All those words backfired. Too bad.

Yikes. What a weak argument.
Lets flip the script.
At least Apple didn't release a poorly functioning, poorly designed charging mat to reviewers to test.

Nope no weak argument here...Apple takes the safe route. Did they not fail to execute their air power? Hell they even showed it at key notes etc.

If there is anything weak it’s that...sorry but take your Apple glasses off please

It all depends on how you use them and what you expect froI would not wear these to isolate myself from the rest of the world (they do a very bad job at that) and the audio quality is not great but for day to day media consumtion (on the go or at home), they do a very good job.
I respect your feelings, but they are irrelevant as they don't have any factual basis.

This would be a supposition on your part, which is again irrelevant as you have no factual basis on why people are buying Airpods.

This is an opinion, which on the internet is numerous.
One opinion is no more valid than the next persons, and also irrelevant.

When you can show some third party data to support your opinions, feelings, suppositions then a valid argument can be made.
You just replied to my comment with a whole bunch of nothing, like literally nothing. Don't waste my time like that again please.

I am an iPhone user but I have to say, good on Samsung for attempting to push the envelope and coming up with new technology. Even if the first attempt was flawed.

Pot calling kettle.
When you start with nothing, like your original post, you get nothing in return.

Which is still irrelevant to the post you responded to.

Sorry, next time I'll quote every single relevant post in the thread, rather than assume the readers who click on the specific thread are capable of taking context into account except where explicitly referenced and repeated

Or just start a post and point out whatever you need to point out without trying to strawman someone else's post.

I've not heard of many accounts of them just breaking from general usage. They might snap when you try and pry the key off but that is an entirely different thing.

There are MANY reports of compressed air not working. What do you think happens when Apple has to replace the keyboard and top of case? It’s because it’s not just crumbs and dust that get in there. On my own MBP, I have two keys with problems. The “4” key seems to have been solved with compressed air. The “b” key did not, not even when the genius tried it. I couldn’t afford to leave it with them for a week to fix it, and they wouldn’t promise me “next day” when I tried again to bring it in, so it still is messed up.

tell that to Schiller and the touchbar. While the execution failed, I think Samsung swung for the fences, something that Apple has not done in a long time.

I would not call the Touch Bar a failure, it is just not for you. It works as designed and is an alternate to static keys. You may not like it, but others do.

Samsung on Tuesday acknowledged that it is unable to provide a firm release date for its Galaxy Fold smartphone and has contacted pre-order customers in the United States to apologize for the delay (via Reuters).

In a statement given to Reuters, Samsung said that U.S. regulations required the company to notify customers that pre-orders would be canceled if the product did not ship by May 31.

The South Korean company originally planned to roll out its $1,980 foldable phone on April 26, but was forced to delay the launch after several units sent out to reviewers broke during testing.

After recalling the review units, Samsung contacted pre-order customers on April 22, saying it would announce a new release date "in the coming weeks" and would take measures to strengthen the display protection. The device's screen was shown to be vulnerable to debris ingress, thanks to an iFixit teardown that was later removed at Samsung's request.

The development is the latest in a series of embarrassing events for Samsung, whose hybrid tablet/smartphone was supposed to demonstrate the company leading innovation in the mobile space. Still, at least the device in its current state won't get into the hands of thousands of customers around the world, which would likely have turned into a larger problem.

Samsung has said it plans to make at least 1 million Galaxy Fold handsets in the first year of production, compared to the total 300 million phones it produces annually on average. It originally closed pre-orders for the device early because of "high demand."

I have an idea when it will launch. Never. Not n anything near it’s current form anyway.

At least they're trying to innovate, unlike Apple shoving down the same stuff down our throats for the past few years and making us pay premium.

Apple haters amuse me to a point that I can't believe they are real people, or being paid by Samesung...
How in the world you support or even compare Samesung to Apple even after this utter failure publicly?

Do you know Apple has lot of patents on foldable phones and they would be working on them in the lab?
Or you want them to release flawed designs and make us beta testers?
What exactly is your point? do you even use your brain?

What kills me is that it makes the keyboard worse. I type very quickly and for the first 2 years of the touchbar i constantly was triggering functions by accidentally brushing it. Took me quite awhile to retrain myself to lift my fingers higher, which also slows me down. If they made the touchbar force-touch so that you couldn’t trigger keys just by lightly tapping them, I’d be so much happier. I’ve still never INTENTIONALLY touched it other than ESC, Touch ID, or volume, but at least it wouldn’t actively make my experience WORSE in that case.

The two scenarios (Airpower and Galaxy Fold) are not even remotely comparable, sorry.

The scenarios would be comparable except for the fact that they are not.

We know exactly what went wrong with the Samsung fold because samsung put it in the hands of reviewers and was a handful of days away from foisting it on the public.

We still don’t know what went wrong with AirPower other than speculation, because apple never let it out of their labs.

True that Apple shouldn’t have announced it until they were sure it would work, but there’s still a huge difference between the two situations.

When Samsung faces issues, you are assured of returns, refund, support etc..... Just imagine when you get stuck with keyboards after parting thousands of Dollars, no story to report until many years of months of owning it! The company by that time made trillions !!!

With your logic, that’s even worse for Apple! Not to mention they showed a product off at a keynote they had no business showing. Lmao talk about a fail

Show why that is a bad thing.
Did they not fail to execute their air power? Hell they even showed it at key notes etc.
Yes they failed to execute their Air Power.
Better for them to execute their Air Power than them executing the consumers who brought a faulty product.

Just to be clear, are you advocating it's better to release a faulty product to journalist reviewers rather than scraping something you realize will not work?
If there is anything weak it’s that...sorry but take your Apple glasses off please
Not releasing a product you realize won't work is not weak, it's smart.
Maybe if Boeing did that people wouldn't be dead.
The fact that you can't see that shows you may be wearing glasses of a different brand.

Wrong/ both are consumer products.

Showing off a product at a major keynote, then promising a release date?

Is this Tim Cook I’m speaking with?

As much as I want to slam them I give them credit...at least they are tryin.

Apple failed at making a wireless charging mat and we should throw stones at Samsung? Nah...

and you know that other companies are not trying?
and ignore all the patents held by Apple for foldable phones...
or in your opinion only if they release failed products they are innovators?
even Chinese OEMs have fear of losing reputation but shameless samesung never has... u know why...its because of people like you how support them without using brain...
