The fourth generation will be greatly improved: it will break in 18 months instead of 12 months.

That's actually a good thing, since most Samsung and Android phone owners consider their 18-month old phones throwable garbage. With negligible resale value.

In comparison, a 24 - 36 month old iPhone is still very functional (if not the latest features) with decent resale value.

Samsung looked at Apple's hyperbolic announcements for the iPhone's and said, "Hold my beer."

I gotta applaud Samsung for really pushing the boundaries of technology that many other tech companies, including Apple, rely on. They may have lost some respect for copying finished products, but they definitely earn respect for individual components that go into finished products.

The DRAMAAA! With music like that, you’d think they were unveiling a time machine or cure for world hunger. Nope! It’s a foldable phone!

Honestly I hope it’s great and everyone loves it, but no hardware is going to get me to buy an android device.

This looks like it's going to be AWESOME! Meanwhile, in the other corner, we have a few spec bumps.

Apple has an "evolutionary" strategy that is consumer-friendly. Samsung is pushing boundaries that can be risky for consumers. Both approaches are valid in their own ways.

Look at it another way... what if Apple completely redesigned the iPhone with every generation, and there was no familiarity from one year to the next to the next. Don't you think that would ruffle just a few feathers?

these are a gimmick
Jeez so many close minded people, remember many said the iPhone was an delicate, expensive gymick.
Folderables are not here to replace slab phones, they are a very useful form factor, think of them of the laptop of the mobile computing world (laptops didnt replace desktops, but they didnt flop, its a new form factor). They are very useful for hands free use and pocketablity. Go use one, you will see it changes the way you use your phone.

I find it interesting that they still market it as new, despite it being their 4th generation.
3rd gen (there was no flip2) but, they are relatively new still. I still get people ask questions or making comments about it when paying for things or just out and about a year later (Z Flip3) Great conversation starter, people use to do the same with my new iPhones back 2008-2011. But nothing like the Flip. It's still got shock factor a year later here in Australia.

I just don’t get the point of foldable smartphones. More so when gaming. I can see it playing a first person shooter game or racing game. One slight move of your fingers then the screen will start to fold. To me that just frustrating to think how simple a phone can just flip close.
The dual CAM mechanism is pretty sturdy. The Fold is alright for gaming but would recommend an s22 over the Flip if gaming is your priority. The point of a foldable is similar to a laptop, very hands free and pocketablity. I have the Flip3 it is super useful

$1,800, 12 month life span phone...Good for Samsung! They certainly have a particular audience picked out. Maybe not the brightest, but they'll sell a few of them and can say they have a flip phone. I think it's similar to the cars that have 90% wheels that let you drive sideways. Never really caught on did they?

My flip3 just about hit 12 months, they are more durable then you relize. They have closer to a 5 year life. If you're referring to 90 degree turning wheels they are actually very popular for drifting. The Flip is Luke the laptop of the mobile world it won't replace slabs but they will be huge, open your mind.

I’m back on my iPhone 13 promax but I really enjoyed using my Samsung Z flip three great little device much more compact and the screen is arguably better than my iPhone. But man I just missed iMessage and the battery now is crazy good. I’m still kept a Samsung cause I really like it and I can only pray that Apple release one.

Remember everyone laughed when Microsoft introduced the Surface. They kept at it and refined it into a hit product. Samsung might get there with the foldable. At least it sets them apart. Ad for the ad, that music was bombastic as hell. Samsung had better have something amazing to show.

Sorry, these foldable phones are just terrible and they aren’t competition for anything. Might as well call it the “Samsung Crease”

I'll give Samsung credit for trying. But I am yet to be convinced of the need and durability of this form factor. I'm sure it exists, but it is just not for me.
Look at it this way: no matter how crazy the idea may sound, someone has to try it. Otherwise you'll never know if it works or not.
