They *must* be doing it ironically at this point… their adverts are just carbon copies of Apple’s.

How many of these folks making fun of Samsung will be praising Apple when they do the same thing? We’ve all seen the patents Apple has been filing for foldables.

At least there’s someone in the smartphone space still pushing the medium forward, even if I for one don’t care for a foldable. All Apple has done for years is coast. And yes, their sales continue to go up regardless. That’s the tragedy. Can’t blame them.

at least i bet that Apple will not have the issues of the Samsung first generation
I encourage what samsung did but it was on his customers wallets...prototypes should not cost samsung customers money while they are testing...back-in in the 90 the testers were even payed to do that...now they have to pay 180 degree turn

At least Samsung was willing to stick their neck out and try something new.

Anyone ever experience not looking at your phone for hours then taking out and putting you phone back in your pocket like eight times in two minutes without a second thought. A foldable phone might give me second thoughts.

Another device that will break after a few months of use. Why bother.

on its customers hard earn money. Samsung made fun of his own customers...Even apple has a lot of prototypes closed doors...but that remain in close doors until the product is somehow working and after that charge money

They look really good as always. One of our student nurses at work had the Z fold 3 and I’ve used it. If I’m honest it’s pretty awesome and I like how she can quickly go from the cover screen to the bigger display. It is more convenient than having a phone and a mini tablet for quick on the go scenarios. However I wouldn’t give up Multiple devices for one as I just like having lots of devices lol

Also as I wouldn’t give up iOS as my daily driver I can’t see where a Z told would fit into my set up because I have an iPad mini. It’s an awesome device though.

Having used flip phones when they first came out I’m not excited by the form factor of the Z flip but I have to admit the customisation that’s available on them is really nice.

I really don't get how these can be durable with a soft screen.

Anyway, its a gimmick I've never cared about, despite having old school flip phones back in the day.
…and yet when Apple release one, you (like everyone else on here) will be drooling over it and shouting “Take my money!”

Have you actually used one before, why do you think they a gimmick? I spent some time with it and they are pretty good devices, apart from that crease. If they can solve that, they’d be great.

Don't like a crease but hey, it's good that Samsung is being quite aggressive in this area. It can only lead to better things.
Eventually, it will lead to Apple deciding the time is right to ask Samsung if they can order millions of the latest Gen or almost latest folding displays for their own folding iFold.

Folding phone (book folding type) is solving this problem: people who are so obsessed with their phone but also want benefit of a tablet to do “real stuff”.

I dont think it solves that problem very well. Weird aspect ratio means using it as a phone feels weird. Screen being still too small mean tablet tasks are not going to run well on it either despite larger screen. It’s the worst of both worlds.

Folding phone that folds in half of a smartphone size otoh, has its own merit and can improve portability somewhat while maybe appeal a larger group of people.

I don't understand the purpose of a foldable smartphone, at least not at their current state. Is it just so it fits better in your pocket? The whole idea of folding the screen itself makes me uneasy and I don't trust that this will come with no issues. Having said that, I think the technology of foldable screens has a future in general but when it comes to smartphones for the moment I'll stick to what I know and trust.

In a week or so, I'll have had my Fold 3 a year. It's the best phone, period. It still looks great and works well. Watching MLB TV is fantastic. Watching videos and looking at pics is nice. The s pen works really well. I am a happy customer.

However, I'm still an iphone user. For me, both ecosystems are good.

The future looks bright.

I am at the point where I believe Samsung keep these just to say we are the edgier more advanced company, in reality no one is buying. Its brand polishing.

there are no noticeable bends in the screen?

I'm still not sold on foldables.
Tell us you've never folded space without saying it.

I’ve purchased every Fold phone since it came out and honestly Samsung is doing a great job when it seems no one else is trying to push the envelope. To be honest though, I always end up going back to iPhone. It’s not the phone. That is never the issue. It’s android OS… it still feels like a half baked beta like everything else Google does too. How long did it take for gmail to look decent and come out of beta. How about botching Nest. How many todo / reminder apps do they have that just aren’t good iterations or even integrated properly with anything until recently. Samsung has done everything they can to make it better. I give them tons of props trying to make it work. Unfortunately it still feels like patch work and there isn’t much of an ecosystem. I’m still going to buy the Fold 4 as I’m a total geek for new gadgets. The refinement and fluidity of the integrated android features and ecosystem just aren’t there for it to be a primary phone.

Whatever work’s for what you are doing is what you should get but I always found myself wasting time trying to find a better app on Android for what I want to do, but on iPhone it was already there and integrated properly or much easier to find at least.

No one is buying them?

Samsung sold 7 million in total last year and looking to double that this year. I understand, this is an Apple forum… but at least be realistic. Samsung have set up their lineup to indicate how serious they are about foldables.

They pushed the Note out of their lineup and replaced it with foldables… Selling S-series in the 1st quarter and foldables in the 3rd quarter.

Never found the fascination of folding phones. Played around with the couple of iterations that Samsung has, and I walk away feeling “meh”. Am I missing something?

You can't cheat physics. Bending a circuit is going to cause all sorts of electronic transients and degradation of materials. I don't understand why Samsung hasn't reserved flexible screens for static curved surfaces (forget the Apple Watch - how about a forearm-sized armlet?). If you want foldables, use two convention screens joined by a high-precision hinge.
