Android developers are not behind Apple in face ID, the One Plus 5T already has it and it's faster than Apple's.

Probably more secure too since there are no reports of children or Asian faces being able to unlock it.

But android as an OS is behind iOS when it comes to facial recognition as on android I think you can only use it to unlock the phone, right? Whereas on iOS you can use it to make payments and other stuff

No notch and no protruding rear camera. Already, they're ahead in design.
Actualky they have bezels which are ugly and not edge to edge. The notch doesn’t bother most people because you still get that edge to edge feeling.

Actually that’s wrong. It’s not even secure enough to use to authorize payments. Try again.

There are rumours from reliable sources that the headphone jack is still staying.
What is wrong with the adapter? For ME, the lightning/headphone jack adapter isn't an issue. I keep it attached to my headphones (I hate the Apple ear buds) and just plug it in when I need it. iPhone X charges wirelessly for those who don't know.

I'm perfectly willing to accept the notch and protruding camera in place of two years of updates with bloated software on Android. I'm sure the S9 will be a solid device, but Eventually aesthetics wears off, it comes down to the Software experience in the end.

My son's S6 Edge is still getting updates. Stop with the misinformation.

Android users might wait longer for software updates but Apple users are guaranteed to wait years for hardware updates.

As for software experience, that's where Android is king--almost 90% of the world's smartphone users can attest to that. And it's why iPhone users jailbreak and why every version of iOS 7 through present has steadily added 50 things from Android that I can easily list.

Well it’s always good to see if they’ll release something competitive. The hardware is generally nice... would be great if they stuck with stock android, obviously there’s ways to do it. However, touchwiz is just bad.

Honestly, who cares? Every year they push up the release date by a month. It won’t matter because it won’t outsell the iPhone. The fingerprint sensor is in a terrible position. Yes, I had an S8 for one month and then I sold it. There is nothing that compares to the Apple ecosystem so I’m not going anywhere.

"Years" is an exaggertion. It's not expected for smart phones to have overhauled hardware on an Annual basis. Apple ugraded the dual camera, and introduced stereo speakers, 3D Touch, haptic home button, ext, wireless charging, etc. Please stop with the misinformation.

Samsung is planning to unveil its next-generation Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus smartphones in February of 2018, just a few months after the launch of the iPhone X, reports Bloomberg.

The two devices could be introduced as early as late February with a launch following in early March. Last year, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus were unveiled in late March and released in April.

Samsung's Galaxy S8
The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are said to be similar to the current Galaxy models that are available, but with upgraded camera systems.

The two smartphones will likely also include upgraded processors and will continue to offer features like fingerprint recognition, facial recognition, and iris scanning. A feature equivalent to Face ID is not likely to be available, however, as Android manufacturers are further behind on development of 3D facial recognition techniques.

Samsung's upcoming smartphones will directly compete with Apple's latest flagship iPhone, the iPhone X.

Probably call it
S9 and S9 plus? *smh*
Samsuck will probaby call it the SX or something

Probably more secure too since there are no reports of children or Asian faces being able to unlock it.

So, "Probably" means what exactly? Just your anecdotal opinion about Face ID being less secure? Not really an appropriate comparison in your Post either.

They have a bezel! And they had to put the fingerprint scanner on the back, because they don’t have Face ID. Also, the camera does protrude!

Isn’t the Galaxy X their rumoured foldable Phone?

I saw thdon’t S8 and thought it was a great design. I liked the minimal bezels and the quality of the display.

Then when I saw an iPhone X in person I was relieved. It looked better than th S8 (even less bezel, even better display), and even better ... it was an iPhone. So superior ecosystem, faster chip, better camera, etc etc.

It’s not secure. It can be fooled by a photo. It can’t be used to authorise payments or log you into mobile banking apps.

By foldable, you mean bendable like the original iPhone 6+ ?

Of course, only Apple can make a great smart phone. All those millions of people buying Samsung smart phones are just fooled into it by Samsung's superior marketing... um wait, no it can't be that... by the remarkable connection between Samsung mobile devices and their computer line... um no wait, not that either...

hmmmm, well, I just don't know. Apparently all those millions who seem pretty happy with their phones are just wrong and should know better by now. Too bad Samsung's inferior marketing of their "steaming piles of dung" that all will explode at any given moment somehow fool naive consumers into buying them and- dare I say it- liking their purchases anyway.

And apparently, when they all explode and kill their millions of owners, not only does the national news ignore all those deaths but more millions just step up behind them to buy new Samsung smart phones the very next year.

Amazing! Maybe even 'magical'?
What are you even doing..? Take a breath sheesh.

You mean the software experience that everyone on here has been complaining about since September? iOS having a better software experience isn’t a valid argument anymore. It used to be but it just isn’t anymore. The additional features added every year are there but the so called ‘experience’ has regressed every year since iOS 7 for me. My Pixel 2 running stock Android is a far superior experience. Smoother, less bugs, doesn’t lag etc. You know, everything iOS used to be? The only way to redeem iOS is to either bring back Forstall who actually knows what the heck he’s doing or put your trust in Jony Ive & friends to give iOS a complete overhaul who thus far have a bad track record by failing and failing with every release. And no, I don’t mean a pointless aesthetic lick of paint disguised as making things feel like new (although making things look less hideous would be welcomed), I mean knocking it down and rebuilding it like they did with Snow Leopard, getting rid of all the jank and making it run like iOS was originally supposed to run. This probably won’t happen though because Apple still keeps raking in the cash so they have no initiative to change things for the better, not under Tim Cooks Apple anyway.

Or perhaps it's because 90% of the Android phones out there cost less than 50% of the price of an iPhone, and most people don't care enough about a quality experience to pay the difference.

Or, perhaps, the SUX9000.

Can it authorise banking apps to open or authorise contactless payments?

Not for me.

Samsung apps
Google apps
And if from carrier, their apps

I want Android 9 right away. I want Pie or Popsicle or whatever sexual innuendo you can do with the name that Google picks.

If the S9 gets announced in Feb and released by March the same month as the SE2, you will have to wait nearly a year to get Android P or about four months after Pixel 3 get released. You might as wait for Samsung's true flagship in the Note by Aug.

I'm glad Samsung's excellent hardware components and phone designs have influenced the iPhone X. Now, lets see what S9 will bring to the table, to make Apple's next iPhone even better.

apple is very late to embrace wireless charging . Most of the other features you noted were available on android in one way or another . Apple is late these days with hardware features. 2017 we get olded and wireless ..... ummm that is years behind
