Make sure we keep supporting Korean companies...I mean, that's what we're about right? Sending money to Samsung to rip off American companies.

I agree 100% about wanting to support one's home country strengths. As a Canadian, I always shop Canadian first. The sprawling Walmarts are the bane of any community ... once one moves into a town, a dozen small businesses eventually close up shop. But consumers are brainwashed into thinking that Walmart is the place to go to find the cheapest price. They don't really care at the end of the day what damage has been done to the local community fabric. Ironically, how does Walmart keep their prices down? That's right ... by buying super-cheap from other countries.... not from American businesses.

There's no way that we could have affordable electronics without the expertise and cheap labour of hard-working Asians that sacrifice for their own families. We live in a global economy now.

Don't lose that national pride to buy American first. But also don't contribute to why other countries are cheaper. Those of us in North America are fat, lazy and expensive workers. Companies can't afford us and deliver affordable prices.

I know it's easier to copy rather than to take your own risks, but have they absolutely no shame at all?

What exactly are they copying from Apple? Zoom on cameras? AI features? Do you think they are going to sit out on AI functionalities because some Apple fans think no one but Apple (who is super late to that party btw) is allowed to implement those even tho AI has been the thing across the board for the last 2+ years

Lol

he's probably referring to the titanium frame and the flat screen... but it's still a silly comment because these tech companies copy from each other back and forth all the time.. it goes both ways.

Before everyone looses their mind on here, remember competition is good!

I am personally intrigued to try something new after all these years but I am waiting for the next Fold later this year
I've tried the three foldables that are available on major US carries (Pixel Fold, Z Fold 5, OnePlus Open) and I will tell you that the OnePlus Open is the best by far, and it weighs less than an iPhone 14 Pro Max which is insane. Check it out if you haven't already.

I'd be interested to know of what percentage the market of smartphone users looks for AI capabilities in a phone. And for how long will we see companies use this as a selling point.

AI is all the rage right now and probably will be for a long while.

OnePlus is unfortunately not allowed to sell phones in Germany anymore thanks to Nokia and it’s too expensive to look for an important without being able to make a warranty claim in the feature

If a company in 2024 is throwing around terms like “Phone AI” or something similar, it’s probably just a scam using the fancy AI label for marketing tricks.

Be cautious and avoid falling into this trap, especially if the processing occurs in the cloud, not on the device.

1/2 agree. If it’s not being processed in the cloud, then it almost certainly just a branded algorithm.

Competition is a good thing.
Surprised that they are going from a 10x telephoto to 5x, is there some issue with the 10x that we don’t know about?
10x sounds great on paper but from a practicality standpoint they're not that great.

  1. The longer the focal length/zoom of the lens the more it magnifies even the slightest camera shake. This is why so many photographers with zoom lenses use tripods even in good lighting. To compensate you need a combination of image stabilization and software compensation, but image quality will suffer.
  2. Wide apertures get harder to implement the longer the focal length. On the S23 the 3x zoom camera had a respectable f/2.4 aperture (the iPhone 15 Pro's 3x zoom is a slightly narrower f/2.8 aperture by comparison). The 10x zoom on the S23 has an f/4.9 aperture. In camera terms that's fairly narrow, meaning you need a longer exposure to capture the same image in the same lighting as a wider aperture.
Factor those two points together (long focal lengths magnify camera shake and long focal lengths with narrower apertures require longer exposure times) and you have a recipe for blurry pictures. Which was exactly a major complaint of the S23's 10x camera.

Samsung is even advertising AI in their Washing Machines and Dryers! It is starting to get ridiculous!

One of the things that I didn't like about Samsung was the edge to edge curved design. I did not like using the curved screens. I always liked the hardware and TBH, android as well. But now that I've been on iOS and iPhone for a year, I can't imagine going back. Android looks terrible to me now.

I'd be more interested with AI in their microwaves knowing how long to cock anything correctly without fiddling with buttons or menus.

Its not a totally silly comment, I am not denying there is not some back and forth, but only Samsung was legally found guilty of outright copying and had to pay $ 539 M and lets not forget that infamous internal memo where Samsung literally took pictures of various interface design elements and marked which ones to copy verbatim. Apple is not innocent, but Samsung is more guilty :)

I don't think anyone cares about this. Here in London, there are less people in the Samsung Store than the Microsoft Store and that's saying something as most of the people in the Microsoft Store are the staff. Apple Store is of course completely rammed.
