Wait, are there people who still think megapixels matter? 108 MP is just silly and a BAD thing. That's excessive even on DSLRs. Why would anyone want 108MP with tiny optics and sensor? Reminds me of the now-irrelevant CPU clock speed wars of the pentium era. RAM is even becoming an weak stat since the utility of more is a function of the speed of storage and software optimizations.

Sad that there are many luddites who look at a 5-bullet spec sheet at best buy, see a "big number" and figure it must be a superior technology.
Because they think higher numbers will attract to uninformed consumers.

I think these ads are actually meant to egg Apple on to hurry up and introduce folded phones because Samsung wants to sell the components to Apple. Samsung as a whole probably makes as much if not more money selling components to manufacturers than it does with its smartphone division.

They probably need economies of scale on production of their foldable technology that they can’t achieve by themselves through their own phone sales. I’m sorry if I’m repeating anyone else’s points. I haven’t read through all of the outrage yet. ;)

Not all pixels are created equal.
See this DPReview article about the S22 predecessor which features the same camera module.

Samsung would love Apple to sell a foldable phone. What a better way to get the masses on board huh. 👌🏼

Yup, just like I’m a Mac and I’m a PC ads?! 😜
you are correct the difference is Apple stopped. Also I don't think Apple ever thought they would take over MS and the PC. The only time Apple mentions a competitor now is during an Apple event I believe.

I just took a scalpel and scratched a line across the middle of my iPhone 13 screen to get the "Flip Feeling", and down the middle of my iPad screen for the "Fold Feeling"

V happy
But does it make a creaking sound? You don't have the authentic experience otherwise

I wonder if Samsung's photos look verifiably better than iPhone photos. Just having a larger number seems irrelevant.

The fold thing might be a neat feature for customers who don't want to carry a large phone. For me, unfolding the phone to see the full screen would be a time drain -- I'm sure I look at my phone >100 times a day. I'd probably stress about causing damage to the screen by unfolding it so much.

People are really ignoring the satellite stuff- biggest phone development in years.
That's because it's only for SOS emergencies. But I do agree it's a big advancement, but just not all that useful. (Until you need it, that is)

I will get a some sort of galaxy phone at my work next week. Will be interesting to see what it can bring. Won’t be any top of the range model but it will be the first time I will use one since being an iPhone user since 2009. Other than that these ads are so lame and 2005.
I am also 99% sure my new work phone which I will receive next week will be a samsung phone. It won't be flagship but nonetheless I will see what it's like.

Most phones don't have enough lens to take advantage of the sensors (IMO, hence all the computational photography). That doesn't mean that the sensor isn't 108mp as they said.

I remember being somewhat disappointed when my iPhone 5 didn't completely blow my Nikon D50 out of the water when taking pictures.
It does have 108mp. But it looks so bad there's no point. Samsung could divide their tiny sensor into 1 trillion photosites ... that wouldn't improve anything, either. It would just increase noise. Increase file sizes for each photo. The megapixel race is absurd. It's a marketing move to impress people who don't know any better.

Yeah it definitely is a marketing thing (as evidenced by the ads).

Personally, my favorite iPhone cameras are the single-camera ones that were flush with the back, like on the iPhone 5, first-gen SE, etc.

I think they're getting a bit weird with the three- and four-lens phones. And the lenses all bulge outward now.

IMO it makes more sense to *reduce* megapixels and stop trying to offer super-wides and short telephotos as lens options.

Do you think I am your personal shopping assistance?

Go look for it yourself and stop being lazy.

You can’t pay me enough.
Oh my god! YOU offered ME “buying advice” that I didn’t ask for!

The Android police truly is great entertainment.

I haven't read all the comments on here, but yesterday I did the pre-order for the iPhone 14pro.

Afterwards I went to a tech store and was looking at the Galaxy fold 4 and I have to admit that I actually really loved it. It felt fast, the screen is amazing and the pen input is the killer for me. I stood there regretting my pre-order.

I snapped out of it a few minutes later as I remembered all the reasons I am in the Apple ecosystem, but Samsung really do have a good product.

edit - I am stating this specifically on the screen and pen input - the ability to fold out to show images and presentations larger is a big plus for my use.

Creases in the screen aside, it runs Android so automatically isn't a good product.
yeah the creases are an issue.
I was mainly referring to the ability to sketch on the device and also show images / video in a tablet format. Has some specific benefits.

I dont really have an opinion on Android as I haven't used it in years.

Flip 4: poor camera, poor battery life, can’t open with one hand, bulky, but you can clap with it. Can’t even compare to quality of 14 Pro, that costs exactly the same 💁‍♂️
