Lawyers too?

Designers have to deal with so many levels of static already--bosses, bean counters, engineers, etc. I can't imagine also having to include lawyers in the process.

I'd like to say that Samsung's designers deserve the headache since they didn't really do much other than 'copy' the first time around, except for the fact that their bosses probably initially instructed them to copy the iPad.

Hmm, this design has seemed to bring the speaker grilles to the front? It actually makes it better. I hate the speaker configuration on the iPad.
I bet the hardware still flexes though.

this is just how it will go on - sooner or later everyone will know what to avoid when making a tablet or phone.

"One of these things is not like the other..."

Still too similar to me.

I thought it was obvious. Credentials bro

Ah the old "appealing to authority" fallacy. Credentials mean nothing. We're arguing the facts at hand, not the credentials of who is stating them. If you think he is wrong, say why his statement is wrong.

There not only design!

Samsung did not only a facelift of the Galaxy tab!
Yes, the frame is special made to be a difference between iPad and Galaxy tab, but in the same time, Samsung bring a better sound to their tablet.
The two speakers give a real stereo sound, with a better clarity!
This is a vision for which Apple - iPad - should think for the next tablet!

He makes it clear that he's a fanboy...wait I mean "fanboi" (obviously fanbois are more hip and cool than fanboys...).

Fanboys/fanbois don't know about right/wrong ways to argue their points. All they know is that if it's pro-Apple, it's right, if not, it's wrong.

Best to not mess with the fanboys. Even more so the fanbois...

Those are both from Google I/O not valid for the question. They were never sold in market and the only way to get those was from Google I/O so thank you but try again.

Provide images of the ones in Germany.

Oh man you need new glasses too...

The one on the video is definitely not a Google I/O device. It's the one sold in stores.

Here's a better look at the same one on the video, make sure to zoom in:

Germany you say? Sure:

I do love my iPod to pieces... but for anyone questioning whether or not Samsung stole their tablet design from Apple... how can it be when Samsung had that same design for their own digital photo frame back in 2006?

http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/09/...res-pics-movies-music/?a_dgi=aolshare_twitter

That and the fact that the iPad has a button and Samsung does not?

Haha...good question! But good questions are largely ignored on this site so don't expect an answer...:(

I do like the speaker idea on the new Tab. Someone at Apple probably wondering why they didn't think of it first. Someone else at Apple probably wondering how they can "borrow" the idea without getting sued. :D

What we appear to have here is a mutual failure to communicate. The original claim was that the current device does not have a Samsung logo on the front.

Rodimus Prime challenged that statement asking for proof.

gkpm provided several pictures of currently shipping devices, according to the original assertion.

Rodimus Prime then appears to have subtly changed the parameters of the conversation, asking for pictures of the new, specially modified German models.

gkpm responded, quite fairly, with more pictures along the terms of the original parameters -- images of the current model, but this time including images of the current model on web pages that originated in Germany.

Other than promotional images, I don't think we've located any genuine pictures of the newly modified model in the wild -- but on the other hand, that wasn't even part of the assertion that was initially being challenged. So what have we accomplished here???

We want the source code , immediately!!!!

Pathetic company Samsung is.

Thanks for the summary :)

It is true that Samsung doesn't omit the logo on all their models in all countries, in fact I've seen both kinds being sold here in the UK (grey imports vs regional model I guess)

Can't say for certain why they do it, but it's probably not to save on ink...

Waste of Time

This really seems like a waste of time for Samsung!

The market competition is really between Apple and Amazon!

However, Amazon does not stand a chance in Apple's "niche" market: as Apple has retail stores for customers to experience the product. Apple is also systematically forging ahead in the corporate, media, and education market place.

Samsung would do better to work with Amazon and produce an upgraded tablet system based on the Kindle.

I like Apple but I just think this is crazy stuff, I don't personally think that it looks that much like an iPad... The back of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is white with a silver bezel..

Not just Germany. I purchased one of these last week for a test device. Used Amazon.co.uk, I'm in the UK. I got the new design also.

All in all the device is 'OK', battery life is rubbish! - and UI is very sluggish compared to iPad 1/2.

I would check it because battery life in the Galaxy 10.1 is very googd

this is not the Galaxy Tab 10.1, it is the 10.1v, the "fat" and old model

The "slim" and in stores model has the logo:

Fair enough, I apologise for my poor German. That is the older version, not the current one.

But the one on the video (also mentioned in my post but you removed in the quote) is definitely the current Slim version.

The links you mention only have PR shots, which we already concluded almost always show the Samsung logo.

Even so on the Amazon.co.uk link you mentioned:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Gal...Q5X6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1321474483&sr=8-2

if you look at the second video it also has no logo.

There's both kinds out there.
