And you don't think that a larger screen eats up any advantage gain of a larger battery?

Actually, it doesn't work that way. I don't know the formula but you only have to make the screen a little larger (thus the battery a little larger) to give you a lot more runtime.

This is exactly why every phone maker has introduced larger screen devices. Lazy engineering.

I'm waiting...

I'm waiting for an iGauntlet...

iPhone 5 screen, landscape, curved to arm shape.. FaceTime, "Health Functions", Phone, Video, Music, eReader, GPS, motion control, voice control, eye tracking control, (of iGauntlet functions as well as any Apple or 3rd party device that supports a new API to be introduced at the next WWDC), invisibility cloak...

But on a serious note, the only "health function" I can't already get from superior devices, already on the market, that already work with my iOS devices, is RMR and RQ (Resting Metabolic Rate and Respiratory Quotient). Give me a user-friendly, portable, affordable, device that can *accurately* give me some *useful* numbers, that I can't already find elsewhere, and I'll pay $400 for it.

Anything else better not cost over $29.99

Actually, I really want an iGauntlet too...

I don't think smart watches will catch on and replace watches as we think of them now.

The watch that I wear now does exactly what I want it to do -- it tells me the time, nothing more, nothing less. I don't have to worry about charging it overnight everyday, it getting wet or plugging it into the computer to update and sync it. I can wear my watch on hikes for 3 weeks - can't do that with a smart watch.

Absolutely, positively, god-awful, and then some. Watches everywhere are hanging their hands in shame.

Only one thought came to my mind: This is what Samsung's innovation look and perform like if they cannot play the copy-cat.

Samsung's first "phone - watch" combination was 1999. Their first "smart" watch was 2009. At least they have the guts to release their version of a smartwatch, so we can discuss it to pieces. Up until today Apple has.....hmmmm....NOTHING to compare it with, although a lot of people here already know for sure Apple's version will be better, more beautiful, more functional, more fun...and so on.

I think any 'smart watch' Apple makes will be equally as pointless and useless as all the rest including this Samsung effort. Because the battery life will be rubbish. I mean we've had precision Swiss automatic movements that never run out of power for century's, and now for no reason at all everyone finds some watch gadget with a few DAY'S battery life as acceptable, because a smart phone just isn't enough?

You're right. The smart watch would have to have new features that you can't get with a phone.

The smart watch can't simply be a 'companion' to a cell phone where it just shows you abbreviated data that you can look up on your phone for the full data. It has to be more.

This Samsung watch is simply a 'companion' device which adds no new value. An Apple watch, to be successful, would have to add something like heart monitoring, sleep monitoring, or something that a phone in your pocket can't do, only something that is on your wrist 24/7 (or 12/7) can do.

It's got an 800mhz processor but multiple hands on demos are already describing lag ruining the experience....what gives?

What gives? What gives is a lack of respectable programming on top of a "just okay" OS.

It seems like before, the war was Microsoft vs Apple. MS was all: make good software, throw it on crappy hardware. Now Samsung is doing the opposite, make good hardware (this watch hardware sucks tho) and throw on some software and a half-ass skin on top.

The key is making them both together from conception to final product.
"People who are really serious about software should make their own hardware." - Alan Kay (1982).

Your Swiss watch just told time.

Anything Apple comes out with will be doing that + lots of other things.

It's also not a watch. Whatever Apple comes out with will be a new product category.

Epic Fail.

This is exactly what everyone would say Samsung would come out with...basically an iPod Nano with limited features. And these features are pretty bad and horrible battery life and interface. Relying on 3rd party apps is also bad. Not shocking at all, this is what I expect from an 'engineering/tech spec' focused company and not a design/usability company like Apple.

They did this so they could beat Apple to market so they cannot be caught up in another lawsuit with Apple.

Whatever Apple comes out with will not be a smartphone on your wrist like this thing is. It will be a new device that combines multiple things into something you won't want to leave home without. From NFC, health monitoring, connectivity and other features along with a design that doesn't look like a watch (I mean seriously, it was SOOOO obvious what Samsungs watch was going to look like).

I also find it funny that people defending Samsung are saying things like "You don't know what Apple will come out with..they could have come out with something just like this" and I think the majority of us know that Apple would never come out with something like this epic fail of technology.

I was going to post the Joker meme "And here we gooooo..." to signal the start of the smart watch wars....but I mean seriously this thing is just so awful I think this is more appropriate of a look from the Joker.

Well said!

Daddy could buy one but he aint gunna... No likey the fashion statement.

Because Apple has a track record for only releasing things when they're ready, and Samsung has a track record for throwing whatever crap that will stick on the wall.

Just so I wouldn't have to take my iPhone everywhere with me. It's a pain the ass to carry the thing around.

Huh? It doesn't matter how great the iWatch is, you will not be able to run most apps the way we are used to on a small iWatch screen. Unless the iWatch has a 3" 16:9 screen, it will only serve as a biometric/notifications accessory for your phone (in your pocket).

If Apple does indeed come out with a smartwatch of their own, I can't wait to see how it looks like. A lot of people are saying Apple would never produce anything that resembles this...I hope they're right.

Although I think the Samsung watch is far from impressive, I have to ask: Do you have a crystal ball that tells you what Apple's "iWatch" will do? Heck, all of the comments regarding the "iWatch" have been conjecture. So feel free to bash the Samsung watch (although I'll venture to guess you haven't actually used it yet), but bashing it in the context of what you think Apple will release seems a bit silly.

...I'll never understand why Apple fanatics need to degrade another company in order to feel good about a consumer products company that they inexplicably hold allegiance to.

Do you find your smartphone battery life rubbish?

I'm going to slap an :apple: logo on that watch and "watch" all the reviews turn positive.

I don't think so. This is simply a rushed job with the only criteria being to throw everything into it except the kitchen sink. What is impressive is being able to get that much hardware into a package that small, but that's about it. The watch on the whole with what actual hands on reviewers are saying is a fail. There was no real direction for this thing just cram as many gadgets as possible into it. Bluetooth was our answer to handsfree calling, hence the head gear. Using your watch basically eliminates hands free. Also it looks like you can't change the strap. For those of us with larger wrists this is an epic fail.

So , you've managed to contradict yourself and prove my point all in one post. Well done.

I should have clarified...if Apple OR ANY OTHER COMPANY came out with a wearable wrist device with the style (or improved style) of a Nike FuelBand plus added functionality and usability, I would *consider* it. This is a hypothetical since this device obviously doesn't exist. However, if I had to venture to guess, Apple is going to be the company that comes closest to this "wish list" device. BUT, what you're saying, "if Apple came out with a smart watch tomorrow you would change your mind about not wearing a watch" is completely false. If Apple came out with a clone of what Samsung just came out with, I would have ZERO interest. Thick, sqaure face, boring UI, limited battery, limited functionality, bulky. It would have to be an almost entirely different design/device all together. BUT, if Sony (for example) beat Apple to the punch and created this magical device, I would still consider it.

Glasses, watches.

You can come out with them all you want but nobody wants to wear a computer... especially one that does the same thing as your phone.
