Apple better have a good answer to this. Looks fantastic.
They had "better"? Reality check -- Apple is the market leader and Samsung makes phones that explode (and washers, and stores). I think Apple will do just fine.

Side note i'm amazed at how quickly the people here forget & forgive Samsung for producing garbage that literally catches fire and threatens aircraft, but these same people are "concerned" over everything Apple, are hyper critical, etc... Shocking double standard.

You get what you pay for. I have absolutely no issue paying $1,000 for a great iPhone. A lot of other people might, but I don't. However, I do expect it to be one damn good phone for the price.
You would expect a damn good Mac Pro for that price too, lol. When selling at premium, you expect premium.

The Dex feature (hook your phone up to a monitor) seems pretty cool. However I wonder if the type of person who would connect their phone to a monitor would need more powerful apps than what mobile provides. I don't see any non techie person connecting their phone to an external monitor.

Still it seems like a cool feature.

This device looks great.

Sadly, I'm not willing to give up split-screen multitasking, file-system access, the back button, the headphone jack, and with the Note series, the pen, so it doesn't matter how pretty Apple makes the iPhone.

Looks like the larger Note is in my future, and it looks bright if it's anything like these.

Then again, I need to keep my Note 5 until 2018, so maybe iPhone 9 will have finally caught up feature-wise.

But I doubt it.

Hold on, S8 has split screen multitasking like S7, file system access?, back b
Please be careful using the phrase "blown up" when describing Samsung phones.

Yeah, since only the Note 7 of all models was the only model which had battery issues.

...835 + 4gb RAM is gonna be fantastic.

10% faster GPU in some tests and slower CPU compared to the 6month old A10. 4GB of ram, but will still force close apps more frequently than the iPhone 7 with 2GB.

"Until Vulkan support is added to benchmarks later this year, Android devices will continue to rely on OpenGL, putting them at a huge disadvantage to iPhones running Apple’s Metal graphics API, which dramatically reduces driver overhead when issuing draw calls. In this particular test, Metal helps push the iPhone 7 Plus in front of the Snapdragon 835 MDP/S by 73%." - Anandtech, Basemark GPU test

Not really "fantastic".

these clowns at Samsung even copied the marketing name from Apple -- the "Plus". really? is that the only possible nomenclature for a larger size? pathetic.

Ok, but as an SE user, the 7 is already bigger than I want, and this is bigger than that (albeit slightly). I get that a lot of people want bigger and bigger, but not all of us do.
I just meant that using the same proportions as the S8, a 4.7-5" screen (I don't know what the actual screen size would be with a 2.06:1 ratio Samsung is using) would be phone similar size to the SE.

To be fair, you can use an adapter.

That has already been addressed ad nauseam. Not only does it get lost but it's another unneeded burden to manage. It's equivalent to not having a built in phone battery and having to always carry around an external battery pack with you and if you forget/gets lost your phone is useless.

To keep mentioning 'exploding' is reminding me of smear campaigns in politics o_O

Honestly don't give a hoot how much better Samsung phones are, I'll never tough a Samsung product. I've had one bad customer service experience (with a SS TV) and that was enough to put me off for life. Plus, I like dealing with companies who "try" to have ethics, even if they are token gestures, ethics about privacy, environment etc... these are the things that REALLY make a difference. I'm still using an iPhone 4 and it's a good phone, I see no reason to throw money away on "the latest"

Who says it isn't though? Whose yardstick is the measurement of greatness?
Well, it's four years old and it hasn't seen a refresh since then. It's more than three processor generations behind and it's still sold as it's been new to market. Not great in my humble opinion

I can't get used to the software... but that hardware is really, really solid. Interested to see what Apple's alleged $900-$1000+ option will offer.

Hardware seems good (except for location of fingerprint reader - typical dumb Samsung).

I can never get used to Android, though - it's a dumpster fire of bad ideas stapled together.

Apple will finally see a drastic loss of loyalty and adoption if they release a 7s that's just like the 7 with different innards.

By whose yardstick is something overpriced? If I get value out of something to me it's not overpriced.
If money is not an issue for you and you don't mind to pay $ 400 more for a device that offers the same or less then others do, it's your choice. I want my money well spent as it doesn't grow in my back yard.

*pokes head into thread*

As expected.... same tired arguments being flung by both sides.

One comment... the fingerprint reader on the back is NOT a home button.
The home button is centered on the bottom edge of the screen with a pressure sensor under the screen.
It gives haptic feedback when this area is pressed.

Apple better have a good competitor to this. I really hope the "iPhone Edition" rumors of it being a whole new tier are false.
Or what? People have been saying Apple is doomed for over 5 years and the stock just reached record highs. The stock is actually up today. Clearly the market isn't freaking out because a competitor released a new phone.

All what??
I see a VERY nice screen (that's not dissimilar from their high quality screens of the last few generations), the EXACT same camera as last year (isn't that pretty much unheard of, on Android flagships?), a very awkward fingerprint scanner placement w/ a special "screw you" to left-handed people, like myself (to put in perspective, there's over seven times more lefties in the world than there are gingers, soooooo....), and a 2nd voice assistant that only works w/ all the Samsung bloatware that most disable immediately.
Yes- the front design looks quite lovely, due to the weak partial implementation of their highly localized version of 3D Touch/hidden software home button.... but I really don't see what features could be considered "all that".

is it the exact same sensor as last years gs7? I thought I read it could record 60fps or 120fps 4k? and was the new Sony sensor?

can you post a link talking about using the exact same sensor as last years phone?

also the new assistant works with Google native apps like Google music,Google maps and Google YouTube

don't know where your getting your info
