This iris/facial recognition stuff is just stupid imo and I don't care if it's Samsung or Apple doing it. There is nothing easier and quicker than a quick print identification. It's just natural.

Samsung prove you can have cutting edge beautiful design without inconveniencing people. Wired headphones aren't going anywhere. They're here to stay.

This makes the iPhone 6/7 look very antiquated.

But...Samsung speakers got significantly worse ever since they waterproofed it.

Thank you for giving me the link. I know iOS handles apps differently than android. What I meant was not the memory usage when running but the app space it uses itself (like disk space when installed). That space is growing over time. Let's say you've installed solitaire and the app uses 37,7 mb when installed at first. Over time it uses 200 mb and there is no way to get it back to its original size other then to delete and reinstall it. Not very user friendly imo.

I see. Yeah I wish iOS had a clear cache or something. I came across a tip recently that if you install a huge app and don't have enough space, iOS will clear all caches from all apps.

apple will come back hard, its still a crappy android and nothing special screen might look nice but it will be over saturated like all there phones

8 years ago... Maybe even 6, Android was a sluggish mobile OS with inconsistent usability and prone to crash your apps.

Nowadays though: All is well.
Not more crashes than on my iPhone. But not less neither. Google has figured it out by now, design- and stability - wise.

I am in NO way trying to convince you into using an Android device! All I'm just asking you is to consider, that not everything of Apple's guerilla warfare PR might be true!

The design is nice but not impressed over all with the software and the presentations are cringeworthy.
The presentation was lame, I agree! And Samsung's apps were never ANY good, especially compared to what Google has to offer.

Samsung are getting better.

Competition is good.

Let's hope it gives Apple a firm push this year....

Nice looking phone, only thing I don't like is the fingerprint sensor on the back (and the design of the camera in general). Nice job Samsung though, finally!

Part of the problem is they don't come across as genuine during these presentations, which makes it hard to buy into. At least with Apple I feel like they care, with Samsung you know that they won't offer any update to the OS and if they do it will be a long way off which isn't good. I don't want it to be a Samsung bashing because I do like the design I just think they still lag behind in software.

I'm proud to say I don't own a single Samsung product.

No to Samsung mobile devices
No to Samsung displays
No to Samsung flash storage
No to Samsung TVs
No to Samsung washing machines
No to Samsung music systems
No to Samsung optical media players
No to Samsung cookers
No to Samsung toasters

Yes regrettably Apple probably has put Samsung components into some of my iOS devices and Macs, but whenever I have the choice I avoid Samsung like the plague.

I'm of the Jim Dalrymple school of thought on Samsung.

Soooo.... you're okay with the fact that Apple uses Samsung parts (which are the most critical ingredients to a product), but you avoid anything else that has this brand even though they are seen as one of the top home appliance brands on the market.......

I wouldn't be surprised if you were a racist also.

I dunno, looking at your phone and having it unlock seems like a pretty natural use too. The point is you have at least three different, quick ways to unlock your phone, all catering to different preferences.

Honestly, the S8 hardware with Pixel software, no bloat, lag, etc., would make a decent phone. Samsung would rather follow the Apple route and create their own software. Dunno if it's still flawed.
The difference is that Apple is creating their own software from scratch, whereas Samsung simply adds their stuff on top of Android. If they really want to be like Apple, they should write their own OS instead of slapping stuff on top of someone else's to make things look different, and in the process adding bloat, lag and other side effects.

Even more of a reason to stick with iOS. Android is too fragmented, inconsistent, and the majority are stuck with the software that was shipped with the box unable to upgrade to the latest OS. It seems like Android OEMs drop support after a year in my personal experience.
That's one of deal-breakers for one of these OEM Android phones. The only Android handsets I would consider would be either Pixel or Nexus, at least they get updates directly from Google as soon as they are released.

I havent used the iris thing, but in videos I have seen it looks just as fast as the fingerprint thing. I can see this being an issue, potentially, if you are just trying to unlock on top of a table though.

iPhone 8 will top it, I know it.

Yeah, while paying 33% more. Samsung just took a lot of pricing wind out of Apple's rumored $1k price tag. Knowing what Samsung has done as a slightly higher cost than 7/7+, I think many will find it hard to shell out $250 more than an S8 for an iPhone 8.

I hate no bezel/low bezel for practicality reasons, but it really is a beautiful phone from the front. 835 + 4gb RAM is gonna be fantastic.

See it's either no support or they get delayed rather than Google/Apple flagships receiving it immediately upon release.
Google and partners are tackling this problem. The new ones do get updates. Nougat is out since... october?
Apple's wwdc really must have some break through tech to show. Be honest... there isn't that much difference anymore in OS. I'm impressed of what bixby can do even with pictures. I'm sure google now will follow soon. It's not only on the software side Apple is lagging, its hardware too. For people who care about how the money is spent, Apple isn't that compelling anymore.

No it's the software and Samsung ecosystem that will make it suck

It might suck now (no clue, don't use it), but they will try to make it work. Remember: they (can potentially) make your phone, tablet, fridge, microwave, routers, tv(s), watch, camera and whatnot. If that all works together than you'll have an experience that's unique. This could be Samsung's strong point like it is also the case with Apple.

My point is, new hardware will always keep coming but to make it a truely compelling offer Samsung will try and control everything in your house.

They have a better chance at succes than companies like HTC who mainly just rely on phones.
