Whist Apple will release three phones this year—two with the same design as the 2014 model and the redesigned one will be super expensive smh.

I see that you're busy rescuing Hyrule from Ganon as I am ;).

I can see it in theory... but do we think Samsung will continue to offer DeX services and software?

Oftentimes Samsung releases features... and then abandons them.

I'd hate for an enterprise to go "all in" on deploying DeX solutions... only to have a bunch of obsolete docks laying around in a year or two.

Then they're back to putting Windows computers on every desk!

The previous Smart Dock remained compatible through newer generations of devices such as Galaxy Note 2, 3, 4 and several Galaxy S versions.

As far as software and services the difference between then and now is companies like Microsoft are now embracing it for their enterprise solutions and services instead of treating it as a competitor to their own platform such as Windows Phone. It's even mentioned in the other video that Samsung officially partnered with Microsoft on the DeX.

A lot of agile and security focused enterprises have already migrated to virtual Windows desktop via Citrix, VMware, Windows-as-a-Service, etc. so there's no going back to installing Windows at every desk.

zero chance this happens.

we will have an OLED iphone this year. leaks have stated this will be the case. they are only releasing the 7s and 7s plus due to not having enough OLED screens to make it on all devices

Yeah - Samsung does, strangely, have enough OLED screens for all of their phones. Apple has literally had years to prepare for the iPhone 8 release and now they claim they don't have enough screens???

Ok who ordered one of these- I went ahead and ordered one of the purple plus models to see what it's like. I don't know if I will end up keeping it, will probably still use the iPhone as the main phone, but it will be interesting to play with.

Read your history.

Blackberry had greater percentage smartphone penetration than Apple has or probably will ever have.

They squandered their market domination by resting in their laurels and doing the some old thing that worked for them ten years earlier...over and over again.

They forgot that they stopped being revolutionary. They didn't count on being surpassed by smaller, hungrier competitors who were willing to take risks and reinvent.

Sound familiar?

I posted the graph earlier if you don't believe me.

Whoopty Doo.....

Meh.
I'm not paying $$$ for an Android phone just because of the looks. Worse, the fingerprint sensor location means you will get fingerprints on the camera lens constantly. Really stupid location.

The screen looks cool, but then what. It's still an Android phone, and it is running the exact same apps as a $200 Xiaomi. And it's not like Samsung provided a superior support or anything for the price. I can buy a new Xiaomi every 6 months and still come out ahead.

Of course, nothing is wrong with Samsung's strategy. This phone is great for those looking for status symbol, or those buying a phone based on looks alone.

It looks amazing, If only Samsung were better at optimization and software in general...

the exynos in the gs7 is very optimized it can easily keep up with the iPhone 7 and in most cases out perform it
Oh really?

And that's against the A9.

Nexus 5X. I don't believe you. You don't care about performance. That's fine.
I mean you either don't believe me or you believe I don't care about performance. Which is it?

For what it's worth I don't care about performance when everything I am doing is handled equally well by all of my devices.

I listed the things that I'm doing. I'm not doing things that require crazy amounts of performance, but that's my exact point. What is it that people are doing that requires ultra fast processing aside from gaming? It loads apps, calendars, texts, etc just as fast as anything else. Occasional video and music listening too, by the way. As a bonus "ok google" wipes the floor with Siri too; I don't rely on Siri to do anything for me because of how limited it is.

Back in the days of the 3G 3GS etc you got tangible differences in the load time of basic apps like safari; in talking like shaving a second or two off. That's a huge difference from where we are today.

Synthetic benchmarks don't translate to real world experience. The latest iPhone 7 Plus has slower browser scrolling and not all sites render correctly when compared to an old 2013 or even 2012 Android device. Even basic sites like MR forum don't render correctly sometimes.

Yes Apple has to make a huge jump to compete with this. They are going to lose customers for a while. Maybe they should have an earlier release than normal. I'll never switch because I'm fully invested in the Apple infrastructure with iTunes, but man this is nice.

Looking for fingerprint scanning on the screen (having it on the back is an eyesore), no camera protrusion, edge to edge screen with smaller devices at the same s looks a little silly with the length) and huge new features. Much better Siri and Maps. Siri in a box, maybe with a new network switch. Completely unexpected features. I like Dex, this could be an Apple feature to move to cheaper a MacBook (⎌it Pro) Arm OS builds.

So much to do, but Apple is often more than up for the challenge and can thrive with this sort of competiton. They have often stumbled too, but this is a can't miss year for them.

For some people fast enough is good enough. You're in that camp and the 5X will serve you just fine. For me, I want the fastest phone possible and that is the iPhone 7.

Actually, Samsung had the Smart Dock back in 2012 which is pretty much the same but DeX is even better.

Smart Dock (2012)

I can see DeX being popular with the enterprise that have traditionally deployed a laptop/desktop, desk phone and mobile phone to each employee but now can deploy a simpler to manage and less costly Samsung S8 plus DeX solution.

Personally, I'm already using an Odroid SBC running Android/Linux to replace a lot of my PC workstation functionality but DeX looks like it has more optimal performance and experience. I only power on my workstation for heavy processing, virtualization, PC gaming, etc. otherwise I'd say over 50% of the time Odroid SBC, DeX, etc. serve the purpose.

Cool, I didn't know it. But in 2012 it just mirrored a phone's screen to a display, when now it is a real desktop experience with windows, desktop UI etc.

I think in the future docks will be unnecessary. One will need just a phone and a cable to connect it to a display/keyboard.

Headline should be updated to include the fact that this phone still has a headphone jack for customer convenience. Courage !

I think there's a large segment of Apple users that fall into this same boat. "Apple needs to step it up. I mean I'll never leave. But Apple needs to step it up"

I've been with Apple ten years now. Last year was the first year I didn't upgrade. I find myself caring about actual features now. If I'm not offered a feature that can somehow improve my life, in probably not interested. I do imagine Apple will at least try to give us something special coming up.

This is probably the most useful feature I've seen in a smartphone in some time. Depending on whether word processing works (why wouldn't it), preferably MS office, this could be a game changer as a business device.

What does your claim have anything to do with my post?

The original poster's claim was:
the exynos in the gs7 is very optimized it can easily keep up with the iPhone 7 and in most cases out perform it
I showed data that is contrary to that claim, against an older SoC, the A9.
If you have data that showed otherwise, please do so.
