You're the only person in the world to draw similarities between BB and Apple. You're wasting your breath.
Read your history.

Blackberry had greater percentage smartphone penetration than Apple has or probably will ever have.

They squandered their market domination by resting in their laurels and doing the some old thing that worked for them ten years earlier...over and over again.

They forgot that they stopped being revolutionary. They didn't count on being surpassed by smaller, hungrier competitors who were willing to take risks and reinvent.

Sound familiar?

I posted the graph earlier if you don't believe me.

- Fingerprint sensor on back and iris scanner questionable? based on what?
- Exynos cannot be used on US markets due Qualcom licensing issues. Rest of the world has it. Bigger market.
- Then you like it, fair enough
- Why dual cameras? It has same camera as S7/S7Edge which already has better camera than iPhone 7 (DxoMark and other neutral reviews) and now they have done some refinements to software side.
- RAM is not an issue currently. Not with iPhone or Android flagships.
- It has "edge" display but it's not advertised as separate feature
- Samsung UI has bloatware, I agree
- Aspect ratio is not nightmare for developers. Are you one?

Based on your comments, you have not even looked into details of the S8 and you are just barking how "bad it is"...
Barking eh, a little snowflake, aren't we?

Finger print sensor on the back, how is it ergonomic to pick up the phone from a desk every time it needs to be unlocked? Not a fan of the decision.

I don't see a single example on a phone where iris scanner is secure enough to be used for accessing bank accounts, with banks getting onboard to support it. It will turn out to be another gimmick.

Exynos - another excuse of a processor that is not efficient, not optimized for the hardware and software. It's like x86 on a phone. When is Samsung going to design a processor optimized for a particular architecture of the phone. Has not happened yet.

Why are we comparing camera to iPhone 7, why bias the camera comparison to an older phone, why not compare it to camera that will be on 2018 iPhone. I can play the same game, is the camera 2 years ahead of the market, probably not. Just being ahead of last years technology is no advancement. How about a bigger sensor or pixel size?

RAM, it's a standard strawman argument. And because can't enough RAM. The standard should be the RAM for Android phones doubles every year, Android needs it.

The software implementation for Edge display was poor, the apps on the edge are probably gone for good.

The aspect ratio is not 16:9, how is a developer supposed to have consistent UI across Android platform with a wild aspect ratio?

One feature that I have great hopes for is Bixby, hoping that Samsung didn't squander it. But Google and Samsung assistant on the same device calls for poor implementation. I hope that I am wrong. If done right, Bixby has the potential to upend the competition.

Your turn, let the whining begin. Better make it loud.

The Dex thing is completely pointless and I'm not sure how you would hold it but its a beautiful phone as most of their recent flagships have been. Apple is certainly playing catchup in design terms.

You would think that and I'm hoping there is, but in my mind I'm picturing Tim's smug grin when he introduces the best iPhone ever...the 7s and nothing else. There will definitely be a reckoning if that happens this year.
zero chance this happens.

we will have an OLED iphone this year. leaks have stated this will be the case. they are only releasing the 7s and 7s plus due to not having enough OLED screens to make it on all devices

the exynos in the gs7 is very optimized it can easily keep up with the iPhone 7 and in most cases out perform it

The question is not whether it can keep up with iPhone 7, but can it keep up with this years iPhone and the next years too. If not, that is really not an advancement, but merely playing catch up.

Another question is, can one processor be used in multiple architectures, if yes, then it's not optimized enough.

Glad that I still can see headphone jack.
It is just not the time to ditch this jack, unless we can buy a (disposable) wireless headphone in just $2 with 4 hrs of playback time.

everytime samsung launch a flagship smartphone, there are people requesting Apple should adopt their features on the new iPhone. Well, I do not have a strong will to have those "features" yet, just don't feel it good.

Honestly, I strongly disagree adoption of edge display, unless Apple can figure out something impactful to our life. Till now, I am still resisting 3D Touch. Really don't see the point to exert higher than normal pressure to activate something that can be activate in few more swipes.

The features list I eager for:
1. new software features
2. able to touch screen underwater
3. Noiseless Pictures in extremely low light
4. Siri has higher voice recognition. (feel disappointed when it does not understand what i say again)
5. Multitasking Siri. (want to ask Siri to turn on Wifi and turn off cellular data by one command)
6. Free wireless earbuds come along with the package
7. Truly truly wireless charging with no compromising of charging time (wish to be at least as fast as cable charging)
8. Group FaceTime Call
9. More relevant For You curation in Apple Music (Always get pop songs :( )
10. Small form factor (4") in size, but bigger touchable screen (please don't give me a permanent function row)
11. I do not welcome Facial Recognition Unlock
12. Speaker as good as iPad Pro
13. Thinner in size, lighter in weight
14. New distinguishable design. All smartphone design look the same now, sigh
15. Please don't offer 3 different size or what. Just one iPhone.

The Samsung phone looks like this because Apple's phone will look like this. This phone is the preemptive answer to what they knew Apple has been developing. So don't worry.

I always find it funny; according to the folks on this site, when Samsung launch something after Apple, they copied, when they launch something before Apple they guessed what to copy!

I think it will. Unified device is the future. For now having a monitor implies you already have a computer, but in the future people would just get a "phone" and a display with a mouse if they need a home computer experience.

Samsung is following Microsoft here and it's impressive what they just did with Android.

Actually, Samsung had the Smart Dock back in 2012 which is pretty much the same but DeX is even better.

Smart Dock (2012)

I can see DeX being popular with the enterprise that have traditionally deployed a laptop/desktop, desk phone and mobile phone to each employee but now can deploy a simpler to manage and less costly Samsung S8 plus DeX solution.

Personally, I'm already using an Odroid SBC running Android/Linux to replace a lot of my PC workstation functionality but DeX looks like it has more optimal performance and experience. I only power on my workstation for heavy processing, virtualization, PC gaming, etc. otherwise I'd say over 50% of the time Odroid SBC, DeX, etc. serve the purpose.

Any cool idea Samsung comes up with is just copying something Apple was eventually going to figure out.

Samsung is following Microsoft here and it's impressive what they just did with Android. Unified OS is better (as Microsoft does with its Windows), so I'm wondering what will be an Apple's reply. If they go Samsung way, stretching iOS to the big screen then that may become a mess, confusing to users, developers and it will cut Mac sales. But it doesn't look like they are going to unify iOS and OS X into a single system either, like Microsoft does. Certainly they wouldn't be able to marry two operating systems elegantly while Cook is in charge.
One too many Cooks is spoiling the Apple broth.

I can see it in theory... but do we think Samsung will continue to offer DeX services and software?

Oftentimes Samsung releases features... and then abandons them.

I'd hate for an enterprise to go "all in" on deploying DeX solutions... only to have a bunch of obsolete docks laying around in a year or two.

Then they're back to putting Windows computers on every desk!

Looks sleek. I can see why some people would be romanced by it. Personally I prefer the iconic look of the iPhone, and I hope the next iteration of iPhone looks like an iPhone, rather than something trying to look better than iPhone :)

Stay classy Apple.

Sad to see the physical button go and that resolution will need a few app updates first just like the G6.

No dual camera is a bummer plus with that screen to body ratio palm rejection needs to be excellent. The battery is very small higher resolution, better soc and yet a smaller battery? This doesn't make sense

Not a fan of the edges because of all the repair and protection trouble. The phone does look gorgeous that's for sure, ratio will come in handy for multitasking.

Prices are as expected wish the normal s8 would be flat. Going to wait for the note 8

From rumors i gather. Wouldn't be surprised either. same & design bit cheaper and a limited 8 with decemeber delivery dates after massive pre-orders. Apple doesn't surprise anymore. will see
Product RED iPhone was a pretty big surprise. I didn't see any leaks

In multicore it scores around 3% higher than the A10 Fusion. In single core testing the A10 Fusion is close to 50% faster. Just to clarify your "most cases" comment. :apple:

well let me clarify I was talking about how optimized the last years exynos cpu was doing.it is beating the iPhone 7 in speeds tests with scoring 1700 single scrore Geekbench tests.watch this video and tell us how the exynos is not optimized when it's litteraly right there with the iPhone and in most cases faster

You have to think like Cook to know how it will be priced. I think this Galaxy phone will do damage to the selling of the iPhone 7 and 7 plus. To compensate those lost incomes, Cook will up the price by a few hundred of dollars

Yup. Business 101. If your product isn't selling, increase the price.

Being British, sarcasm is on by default, in case you were wondering ;)
