The presentation was so lame that I am even more discouraged to buy this phone than before I watched it. It was very artifical, boring and scripted from the beginning to the end.

You realise every presentation is scripted, right?

A little worse than, say, Tim Cook's presentations and Steve Jobs was the master, but Apple presentations not a whole lot better these days.

The product launch events need to die. Apple still puts on some of the best ones but the past few years even theirs have been painful to sit through. Enough with tech goofballs publicly battling stage fright, just release some informative TV ads and a well-designed website and be done with it.

Btw awesome phone. Your move Apple.

Great looking phone but from what I can see - Meh

Only 4 gigs of ram running Android
Only marginal improvements to the CPU from what i saw. Will it even top the iPhone 7?
More software crap
Same megapixel on camera as previous model though. Which is good. Wonder if they realized to focus on quality not numbers.
Bluetooth 5 is interesting but won't it impact battery life? We'll see
Decent sized batteries but it's running Android...
Pressure sensitive screen as home button is cool for android but it's Force Touch by a different name.

Just an S model to me. And if the CPU/Camera improvements fall flat, a poor S Model upgrade.

How are people eating this up? I mean, unless I missed something huge this not that great.

Seems okay, not anything too crazy in my opinion. I don't think it'll take much for Apple to beat out this device. The iPhone 7 will probably sell more in 2017 than this phone.
It's going to take a lot to beat this phone if they don't price it correctly.

If Apple doesn't redesign the iPhone it's going to be a bloodbath. I'm sick of the home button and the huge bezels. I am thinking about pre-odering this beauty, but it seems like they've added a lot more software junk...

I find it interesting that something useful and well used as the 'home button' is subject to such distaste. I think it's a function of chasing fashion and it's now fashionable to dislike the home button. The bevel thing is also interesting since these things are so expensive I know I've never used a iPhone without a hardcase to protect it. The color of the phone doesn't matter - that's hidden by the case. These phones without bezels will be problematic for a wrap around case. Would there be a 'case function' that shrinks the screen space so you're not tearing the edges of your case to touch some hidden bit of screen to move to the next screen? Interesting watching the Samsung presentation from Facebook instead of having to watch it from my iPad as I would have to do with the Apple events.

No doubt.
This does seem to point toward what we might be able to expect from Apple - or at least adds some pressure. While it might still exist, having a physical home button now would seem archaic.

I haven't looked forward to an iPhone release more (ironically) since the '07 launch. Gonna be a long summer.
I feel ya'! I am really, really hoping Apple knocks this one out of the park with a fully bezel-less design. This Samsung phone is really nice looking, but I think Apple is courageous enough to do even better, and get us something to be even more happy about.

iPhone 8 might, but how does Apple talk up the 7s/7s plus?
Honestly, that is a fantastic question. One that I don't have a great answer for. I think they may just release the 7S/7S Plus for general consumers like old people who really don't care, but will market the 8/X whatever they call it, towards more tech enthusiasts. Hard to say though, really.

Beautiful phone! The issue with Samsung phones is that they reduplicate all of Google's efforts. Now you will have two "assistants" on the phone to go with your two email clients, your two web browsers, your two calendars, etc.

Fortunately, you have the freedom to easily disable the features and services you don't want.

Only wish it had iMessage... :(

I use that so much, it makes it hard to switch.

Time to get everyone you communicate with to switch to a multi-platform service :).

These round screen edges are going to nasty for developers and existing apps.

The curve has been a thing since the S6 / S6 edge, and it doesn't seem too bad.

Apple will do this on the iPhone 8. It will be the new Mac Pro.

This could hurt their iPad Pro sales.

Great looking phone, but... I have an LG with the fingerprint sensor on the back and it is a pain. It is much easier to use when it is on the front like my iPhone.

I'm 100% with you there. Assuming you never use your phone while it's on a table, or stand / dock, car holder, etc., having it on the back is great :) (/s).

apple will come back hard, its still a crappy android and nothing special screen might look nice but it will be over saturated like all there phones

Have you used their phones recently? My guess is no.

And this is what you base spending your money on?

The phones are really impressive. Competition is always good for Apple.

But what I really like is that both phones have the same specs (except screen size and battery size). Samsung doesn't punish you when you like smaller phones like Apple does, and this will only get worse this year: iPhone 7s < iPhone 7s+ << iPhone 8.
This frustrates me more and more. I don't like phones which are >4,7", which means I'll always get the inferior camera and display resolution from Apple. :(

Really don't see the point of the curved edges...

Of course there will always be people who like edges/bezels on their devices instead of the screen using the full width, but the majority will adjust to practically bezel-less phones in a very short time.

Hogwash. That is only if you get a non-carrier-branded version. If you get a carrier-branded version you will have three of each, not two. /s

Since Apple will use Samsung display, I'm hitting you hard if in a few months you say Apple 8 display is magical... which is likely.
