You mean, like a snob :p

I find it hard to understand why people assimilate fashion, jewelry, exclusivity with a mass-produced (in China), mass-sold mobile phone.

And man, if you want to spend $11k on a watch, there are so many more actually tasteful alternatives out there than Rolex...

Rolex are in fact a very good comparison to the iphone, they are overpriced, have the same functions (or less than other cheaper alternatives) and tend to be owned by young people that think they are a status symbol, or older people that will pay silly money for something they think is premium! lol

Your right though the iphone is knocked out cheaply in china, Apple charge a fortune (BECAUSE THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT), the fact that Apple make the lions share of the profit in the phone market, whilst selling less units than the android manufacturers, should highlight how much they are overpricing their devices...

S8 is much worst, its just a refurbished Note 7 with new screen design.

You're probably right on the money here. A sad reality though.

Show me a Breguet with a tourbillon, I'll admire it. Show me a Rolex or an iPhone, there's this overwhelming "meh" feeling all over.

Well said. When I saw they added a damn button for Bixby, I scoffed. Dumbest idea ever. In all honest it isn't a massive upgrade, it's funny watching macrumors readers praise Samsung for it, yet scorn Apple for a the iPad. *confused*

I don't get it either... The weird rounded corners of the actual display are super strange compared to the S7 Edge more squared corners. The fingerprint sensor on the back? Emphasis on "Bixby"?

It just seems like another incremental update. The next "big" thing will be truly wireless charging, something with an effective range of 5 feet or so would be absolutely practical.

I also think Apple is massively dropping the ball, mostly on the computer side though. I'm no Apple apologist...

Better get me some new pants, the ones I brought last week are a week old now and they only cost £150 they have just bought out a new pair with an extra belt loop for £350... I would not want to be seen in the ones with only 6 belt loops... they are for the peasants that cant afford 7 loops...

In seriousness though, if you feel that its worth the premium and if your in the position to pay it then thats your prerogative, thankfully for Apple there are a lot of people that will do the same as you.
Not sure how long people will continue to do it, but for now lets hope that people can justify the 8 pricing (or that enough people have upgrades due on their contracts).
Haha there are priorities...

But no, I understand where you're coming from. Apple just needs to keep their image the same and people will continue paying large sums of money for their devices. But you have to admit, they're a joy to use. Nothing wrong with the 7 line. Hell, even my 6 still runs well. I keep all my old iPhone just to see how they've changed. And honestly the iPhone 6 doesn't feel THAT much different from the 7, besides maybe the battery life. But yeah.

Oh and the phone upgrades don't lessen the amount you pay, that's why I buy my phones outright now. That just fools ignorant folks into thinking that they're getting an iPhone for $200 LOL. And those are the same folks who probably can't afford an iPhone to begin with.

well let me clarify I was talking about how optimized the last years exynos cpu was doing.it is beating the iPhone 7 in speeds tests with scoring 1700 single scrore Geekbench tests.watch this video and tell us how the exynos is not optimized when it's litteraly right there with the iPhone and in most cases faster

I don't disagree that it has the ability to be faster in "Some Optimized Events." The A10 is clearly more efficient, superior in single CPU operations (75% of daily use), and Design Architecture.
I never stated I did not think the S8 was a very nicely configured personal communication device. However, I don't see myself using Android in the near future. These type of disagreements will be gone with the A11. The architecture on this silicon will be, well, you'll just need to wait and see. ;)

Oh dear are we really going to try the Samsung are copying a device Apple hasn't even brought out yet.

Shall we just forget about the evolution of Samsung phone design from the S6 onwards which this latest phone is clearly evolved from. Let's just shout copy.

Not what I said. I said that if they'd deviated from their standard camera in the middle, everyone would say they copied Apple. Because the designs have become so similar, right down to the soldered-in battery.

I am no Samsung fan, but I don't think they're actually copying Apple. All smartphone manufacturers are keeping an eye on each other and on what people are buying, so in that respect, they all take a little from competitors, but I'd hardly refer to that as "copying."

Nah that's not what I meant. Walk outside dressed like an average person, and you will get treated as such. Walk outside dressed in some nice clothes, with nice accessories, and people will treat you better. People ought to take pride in themselves. Work hard. Afford nice things within your means, and live happily. Everyone wants handouts and no one wants to work hard, so they end up being that "average" person. This is why there are poor people and rich people. There are differences in the mindsets. Hopefully that makes sense, I tried to cram as much as I could into a small paragraph.

Oh I know. It's all personal preference. Having owned many brands, I simply used that as an example because not everyone is going to understand a reference to a $20,000 rare watch.

Look, I'm not saying everyone needs to have expensive things. In most cases it would be in their best interest not to. But for those that can, there's nothing wrong with it. And yes, it does make you feel good to know you've accomplished something that most people never do.

TAG Heuer. :apple:

This story generated a lot of comments! I have a 6+ right now and its been working wonderfully. I remember when my 4 got stolen I opted for the S3 at the time and was blown away by the bigger screen and new OS. Over time though the phone got laggy, battery would drain with rouge apps, and I had to send it to the factory to get a new one.

Despite that (also being brand new before they sorted out the bugs), I may try the s8 to get away from the same old apple. Its a risk, but I could always sell and go back. I have migrating over to the google eco-system so I don't really have much ties to apple other than they are great to work with and reliable.

In my life I've never met someone who bought an iPhone as some sort of status symbol. Especially in the US, it's kind of hard to describe it as some sort of thing that makes you uniquely cool when so many people have them.

People buy iPhones because it's what they know. Could they get a better spec'd Android phone for cheaper? Probably. But most don't want to take the time to learn a new OS, no matter who trivial or easy some here might think it to be.

Personally, I use an iPhone because of the built-in integration with my laptop. And my watch. And my Apple TV. The ecosystem of it all is a strong pull. My wife uses an iPhone for many of the same reasons, but she had Android phones in the past and had nothing but problems with them. It's been about 6 years since she had one and Android has probably come a long way, but after 6 years of iPhone use what is the big pull to get her back over there? Saving a few hundred bucks on a device she'll use all day, every day for a few years? I would imagine the inverse is true for long time Android users who originally got in because they could a phone for cheap.

Maybe at some point using an Apple device was a status symbol, but I think those days are largely in the rear view. They try to still be a lifestyle brand with Beats and Apple Music and all of that, but the truth of it is that Apple is such a main stream company now that it's hard to think of them like they were in the early 2000s.

And that is the reality of it. Apart from those Chinese OEM's that blatantly rip off Flagships, they all take cues from each other. Some times Apple add things to their phone simply because Samsung have and vice versa. However they both have their own ideas.

If Apple doesn't redesign the iPhone it's going to be a bloodbath. I'm sick of the home button and the huge bezels. I am thinking about pre-odering this beauty, but it seems like they've added a lot more software junk...

Let the hate flow through you....

Pre order it and be done with apples home buttons and huge bezels.

I bought the iPhone 7 because the A10 is a beast and it's the fastest chip available.

The last Samsung phone I used for an extensive period of time (5 months), the S5 was quite stable and battery life was decent. It didn't slow down. I've had the note 4 and S7 edge since but only had both for about a month and they weren't my daily driver so it's difficult to say how they would have faired over a longer period of time. The S7 edge had great battery life. It was almost on par with the 6S+ Battery life.

My story was similar to yours. My iPhone 4 got stolen and I got an original galaxy note to replace it. Lovely screen but after a while it ran like crap.

Over in the UK the upgrade deals are a bit better than they seem to be in the states but if you can afford to buy outright its a much cheaper option in the long run as you can get great sim only deals.
My sim only is £19.50 a month and has 30gb data (with all 30gig available for tethering), unlimited texts and unlimited calls, it also allows me to use all of that (apart form tethering) whilst in most of europe and even america (41 countries in total I think).

Most people should be perfectly happy with an iphone 6, yet many people I know have ditched a perfectly usable phone to get a newer one that looks almost identical but with a few updates and spent $$$ doing it.
I for one would rather save the money and go snowboarding lol (once my MCL tear has healed)
Regarding the ease of use, yep they are easy but these days so are android (unless you take up the option to tinker with your phones that is available via android), my biggest bug bear is the way apple cripple their devices with updates beyond their ability (or if you have a tinfoil hat mindset... deliberately slow down to force you to upgrade lol)

The s5 was a great phone (still is with a custom rom on board like my sons one), using both iphones and android (more android than iphone now) the differences now are minimal and its easy to switch and not miss the other os

pre ordereding at best buy! you get a free gear vr, free gear vr controller , 50 dollar gear vr gift card and 100 off the phone!

edit tough choice you can also get the above and pay 99 and they will give you 256gb Samsung ultra fast sdcard and Harmon akg headphones but have to wait in the mail for everything to come in.

Yeah prices are a little different among countries. Here, you don't save money by using an upgrade. You just spread out the payments. I pay like 20 bucks a month now, but I also own my phone outright. So I like that.

Yeah like I said I keep all my old phones so I have quite a few. I usually wait 2 years to upgrade, well that's how I used to do it but the iPhone 8 will easily be big enough to warrant an upgrade from my iPhone 7.

Quick question, what is it that you need all the power for? phones have been fast enough for years now

Phones are very expensive. Why do I have to explain my use case that doesn't apply to you?

If i'm paying top dollar, I demand top performance. If you aren't, you're getting ripped off.
