IOW you still need to use your fingers thus FaceID doesn't really buy you a much.

1. You can get gloves that have the conductivity to operate a smart phone screen, but no fingerprint sensor can read your fingerprint through them.

2. Dirty or wet hands can operate a smart phone screen but not activate a fingerprint sensor.

Therefore in cold situations where gloves are needed and/or in situations where fingers are wet or dirty one can operate a phone but not unlock it with a fingerprint. In these cases Face ID is a very good solution.

The person you’re arguing this with explained at the start that he’s in BOTH those situations.

Why? There are many who prefer the headphone jack. I prefer wired keyboards and mice. Am I living in the past?
Yes. You’re living in the past. If you want an iPhone with a headphone jack then the iPhone 6S is the solution for you. Enjoy it. The rest of us prefer a phone that has other stuff in the space the headphone jack took up.

That’s your job, myn is different. I don’t have to wear a face mask and I don’t wear gloves for work but my hands get super dusty so Touch ID does t work, but Face ID always has.

From your post one understands that you do wear gloves.. At least sometimes. At least I did!

without taking gloves off or with my hands covered in dust

Back to topic, I like Samsung more than the iPhone; the form factor the feel. If it weren't for the iOS /ecosystem I would have buy one, long ago!

Wait, are you telling me I can use wireless earbuds even though the phone has a headphone jack. I want to make sure I got this right, the phone has a headphone jack, yet I am still able to use wireless earbuds if I choose. So the jack itself takes nothing away from the phone and I still get ip68 rating. That's awesome, why would anyone take the jack away. I honestly don't get it.
It takes up space that is now used for other features now that it’s removed.

And if you want to ask “Why can’t they just make it bigger?” The answer is: some of us like thinner lighter phones. If you want a headphone jack then the iPhone 6S is the solution for you. Enjoy it. It’s an awesome phone and you can still buy it new. What’s the problem?

I don't deny you your preference. Well, except when you say you prefer the notch versus not having a notch. Yeah, I deny you that because I don't believe you. If Apple were to release a notchless, "foreheadless" iPhone I'm sure we'd be hearing you singing their praises. Again, if the notch doesn't bother you I can understand that. But to say you prefer it? Not buying it.

Without the notch we have two options:

1. Have a forehead and move the things Apple is displaying in the “ears” down and lose screen space there. Or...

2. Deny the phone the hardware that is in the notch.

If we keep the hardware then it’s simple: With the notch, MORE screen. Without the notch, LESS screen. To say we PREFER more screen to less screen and have you not believe us... well, that’s your prerogative.

My issue with Samsung is not that's it's Android as I like Android.

Samsung:
  • Bloat, bloat and more bloat
  • Duplicated Google services
  • Gimmicks
  • Lag, lag, lag
A quick visit to any Samsung forum will show that most users experience significant slow down issue within a year. The hardware is solid, no doubt but Samsungs software add ons and gimmicks kill the performance of their phones.

I actually disagree, after being with Apple for the past 5 years, I took the dive and switched to a Note 8, and I just could not understand all the ppl crying about bloat.

- There was 0 bloat, and if you do not like something, you have the ability to remove it or customize it. For instance, I love minimalistic themes, so I disabled the default touchwiz launcher and installed the microsoft launcher, which has less customization, but is nice and clean.

Made my own theme and customized it:
JKLr33D.jpg

-Duplicated Google services, sure, but having that choice is a bad thing now? Believe it or not, Bixby is actually 10x more powerful than google assistant and siri combined, due to all the hardware automation I can do with it.

-Gimmicks, sure, I don't care about those, both camps have stupid gimmicks.

-Lag? What? I have had my Note 8 since launch, it's perfectly fine and operates just like when I first got it, and many many others on the Note 8 reddit sub share the same experience. Not to mention most of the time it's due to ppl installing a bunch of bloatware themselves, such as facebook...

No notch...

Yup, and they went an even worse route IMO by making the top and bottom bezels different thicknesses. I would notice that WAY more than I notice the notch if I had the S9 I think. The top just looks so top-heavy on the S9 while the notch still allows for the screen to extend to the top bezel on the iPhone X and takes some visual weight off the top.

You mean the same flower Samsung has used before like on the S3?
Good point, but it's not about the flower, it's about the rest of the wallpaper (how it's centered, the black background, etc.). I know I'm not the only one that sees the similarities.

I have been with AT&T 15+ years, and they stop subsidized phones years ago. I think the same can be said for all the other carriers in the US as well. You can now only buy phones with their financing option or buy them out.

Apple's yearly trade in program is not free, you have to buy Apple Care, it's a must, or you can't do it. At least with AT&T's Next Every Year, you only pay for 1/2 the phone and then can get a new one in 12 months. You don't have to buy Apple care for it (or 1/2 of it). You can even see on Apple's website that you pay more for the phone over 12 months than you will with AT&T's upgrade yearly plan.

As for the 5 different iPhone to buy from, we are not comparing pricing to a 1 or 2 or 3 year old phone, they are talking about the latest offerings.

Omg. All the carriers are still “subsidizing” phones and other devices - who cares if now it’s called financing.

And who cares what age what model what price why this why that debate. Who cares???????????

?????

Like I own a Mac Pro and my buddy owns a Mac Mini!!!!

Who cares!

Because my experience with a brand new Galaxy phone has been nothing but terrible (work given phone mind you). The speed of the OS slows down to a crawl after a few days of usage. Not to mention doing anything is beyond not intuitive.

After a few months of using it, I "forced" my HR & Supply Chain depts to give me an iPhone instead as doing any work on that piece of garbage was maddening.

Lucky you then. I went through 2 other Galaxy devices before HR decided they've heard enough complaining from me and authorized an iPhone purchase.

All I needed on that device from hell was Google Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides. Even those apps choked and force quit on their own.

Mercedes cars are the best. One time I was forced to use an Audi... It was new but after a few days of usage it just started rusting and breaking down and then I kept getting flat tires. And the engine stopped. A week later I switched to another Audi but it was hopeless.. same thing happened.. just junk. I'm guessing no one is using Audi.
Mercedes forever!

I agree, but regardless of what they are doing, the photos will be very comparable to the X.
How can you say that? They are doing things Apple isn't. The X has already been surpassed by the Pixel 2's camera. It isn't like Apple is the standard these days.

One is a standard run of the mill Samsung, Pixel XL, LG look and the other is unique... Take your pick but I dig the X's look..
It's run of the mill for a reason. It's like wondering why all windshields on an automobile have a flat, horizontal line across the top. Because it looks great and it's a stupid, proprietary, most-likely-patented shape.

I would buy that symmetrical example phone w/ iOS for $1199 without hesitation. None. The next iPhone X that will 100% certainly have a notch? I will really hesitate this time. I prefer symmetry above all else when it comes to phone screens.
I would actually buy a notch iPhone XI for 19999

Google's Android Project Treble ... Google's attempt to fix Android Fragmentation. Thus far only S9/S9+ has this ... nothing yet on S8 or other manufacturers. Let's see what this does. I like the idea and if it really works across the board doing into the future of Android then maybe it'll prompt Apple to release more solid features on a timely and working basis. I'm sure Apple will hire a LOT of developers to resolve issues with bugs in iOS in 2018.

I thought the same thing when the S7 debuted and now I have an iPhone again. The bloatware that always reinstalled itself was horrible, I didn’t get Android updates until months after official releases, and being stuck with SMS and MMS messaging was frustrating.
I agree about the messaging part. Anytime I have a group message with friends we make sure not to have anyone without iMessage cause they mess up the whole group and turn it into green texts

I applaud Samsung for keeping it and having great speakers in the device. One does not preclude the other.
Next year they will remove the headphone jack.

That's a killer, mate

The S9 & S9+ use Samsung's new ISOCELL Fast 2L3 image sensor, which has 2 Gbit of integrated LPDDR4 memory.

The DRAM is good for up-to Five 12 Mpx BGRA photos, or up-to Seven 12 Mpx RGB photos.

And it appears the sensor can capture 12 Mpx photos at 120 fps.

So, Samsung has clearly leapfrogged ALL other hardware vendors, including Apple & Google, in both slow-motion video (720p960), AND my specialty, Mobile Motion Photography !

But it's NOT all good news ... No mention of 10-bit color capture.

So, best grade I can give them is a solid B.

But, this could actually be a Catalyst to put mobile motion photography on the Radar of most !

With an iPhone 8+ or X, one app can capture up-to 45 4K photos at up-to 60 fps, or up-to 30 12 Mpx photos at up-to 30 fps with a number of Apple mobile devices.

That's the current benchmark for mobile motion photography with Apple products.

Ok. You’re either not listening, or an idiot, or a troll.

You forgot the possibility that he is a combination of two options or maybe everything :D

I got the earpods and I love them, yet I also prefer a USB-keyboard that has infinite power over a wireless one ;-)

They both sound just as useless and stupid as they are. Tried once, don't think I'll live long enough to want to try it again.

Haha, same here. I only open up that animoji app to show of the iPhone X but have never ever used it...

Think it's awesome for all those 12 year old iPhone X users out there though.

So the same thing as the S8 with some old camera tricks. Probably a fine phone, but I’m surprised how little Samsung is criticized when they make little to no changes to phones and software for years.

For less than one year to be precise...

Subsidizing = pay 299 for phone - 2 year contract -> This doesn't exists anywhere that I have seen.
Financing = pay $999 for phone - 18-30 months to pay off, with ability to upgrade as early as 12 months

There is a big difference and it does matter and lots of people CARE. And obvious, some people in here care, because it was brought up. Just because you don't, don't make it so.

Oh, I get it, I hurt your little feelings because I showed you that APPLE is charging you more for the same phone over the same period to allow you to upgrade every 12 months. I am sorry.

I don’t think there’s a ton of difference when it comes to photos from any high end smartphone.

Massive bezels? Lol, really? All of Samsung's phones have had better screen to body ratio than any iPhone before the X. All of a sudden you're so concerned with bezels? Lol. Have you called out Apple for the ridiculously huge bezels on all other iPhones? Have you called them ancient? You know what's ancient looking? The massive side bezels on the X. Just to give you a reality check, the S8/+ and S9/+ all have a better screen to body ratio than the iPhone X. And it's done without the hideous notch.
