For the record, Apple began pattening technology for folding phones 5 years ago.

It's... interesting. But I think the most I can say is that I'm curious. Curious to see the application of the technology and real world use. 4.6" display when closed seems small, but I dont know that I'd want to open it each time I wanted a larger display. And I cant think that a square aspect ratio is something Id think of as what I'd want to use, because multi tasking would then look like 2 side by side phones.

This article doesn't mention the thickness when closed, which makes me wonder how brick-like it could be.

That said, I give credit where its due, and Samsung has taken a risk here in an effort to push the industry out of stagnation. Good for them.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I bet Samsung has a machine to do just this. Now maybe this phone, with all its R&D, slipped through the cracks and didn't get tested, but I don't think so ;)
So did they have a machine to test for exploding batteries too? Or did that just slip through the cracks?

It's truly pathetic at this point.

It's truly pathetic that Apple has so little innovation left and yet all these fans act like the new watchbands and emojis are somehow magical while real innovation like this is somehow meritless crap.

The fans here will pat Apple on the back for their amazing engineering in bringing faceID (which nobody wanted) and yet crap on Samsung for a foldable tablet. Amazing. Samsung is demonstrating what innovation is, it's a foreign concept to people who only look at Apple.

That said, I'm still sticking with iPhone for now. I don't want anything with the invasive spyware that is Android, and Samsung is another company that thinks their users are the real product to sell to advertisers. Plus I don't want to give up my iMessage on the Mac or iPhone functionality. But the reasons to stick with Apple are stretching awfully thin.

I would hope so when a 3 year old iPhone outperforms a Brand new samesung.

Perhaps you are so full of your self that you didn't see how the presenter was nervous. I'm sure you would be much better at handing a big presentation to thousands of people around the world.
There's really no need to show specs, we already know the battery life is going to rekt away the XS Max. Oh wait the Galaxy S5 already does that. ;)

The screen tech is certainly fascinating. Can’t wait to see in person. But seems pointless as a phone primarily. Too thick to be easy on the pocket. Wrong aspect for movies and TV. And the folded screen size on outer screen is too small. It’s form over practical function. You certainly aren’t going to be using single handed while walking around Manhattan with the screen folded open. Use that tech to give me a 17 inch laptop that folds into 8 inches in the future. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

Besides getting patents for foldable phone technology 4 years ago? Besides the AirPods that samesung and everyone else has copied?

Totally love the innovation push.
Major kudos to Samsung.

Apple has done nothing of even remote interest on the innovation front anytime recently, so I applaud this sort of effort.

Apple needs to be pushed. Big time.

definitely looks cool. no fomo here, would never buy one, but I'd love to see how it holds in the hand!

Must be exciting opening up Instagram 1 second faster. A12 is a true work of art.

Sorry to tell you but Galaxy Buds have come way before the Air Pods, these are just a newer version. ;)

Can anyone confirm that you will be allowed to bring this foldable phone on airplanes? Samsung has a terrible reputation for battery safety and since this thing has TWO batteries, it seems like double the chance of failure. Yikes.

The people hating on this device don't understand that it's a 1st generation of a very new technology. Give it 3-5 years and there's a good chance it will become something pretty cool, and a whole lot less expensive than the current $2000.

You all sound like Steve Ballmer after the iPhone was announced.

Patents ≠ Products

......in Steve's galaxy far far away........that would have been an Apple commercial! Think Different! Beautiful if not practical! Something you want and didn't even know you wanted! Expensive! hmmmmm Steve is secretly working over at Samsung?

buuuuut I can get an iPhone AND an iPad Pro and that's way better and much cheaper (cough)

Plus Apple will show them all. In 2-3 years they'll have a similar device and will sue Samsung for stealing it, so go f yourself Samsung. You suck. You only copy and can't innovate.
Flexpai was first to this, no?

and Apple can????? That ship has sailed!

For the record Samsung first showed off a curved display 6 years ago. Let it go. Samsung have been working on this for years. Apple cant even make displays, they have to get a third party to make their screens. They have only just started making screens with OLED displays.

Samsung had their own galaxy buds before the AirPods even came out. Samsung were not even the first to do that either.
