I love all these comments about the price - I wonder what's the over/under on when Apple charges more for a device... I'm thinking June 2020...

I do see the value in this - and can see this as a way to decrease the number of devices one buys. Next, they need to add an e-ink screen on the other side! Combine phone, e-reader and tablet.

No idea what anyone would want to copy that but guessed you were joking.

Bleh.. A plus size phone is not that far off of 7" anyway. seems too bulky. The 3 app multitask thing is nice.

It may be horribly expensive and I wouldn't want one (not a smart phone guy), but this is what actual innovation looks like.
Not making new giraffe emojis or re-heating mac mini leftovers and painting them "space gray" or letting your professional desktop line atrophy for almost a decade.

This device may be a flash in the pan, or not, who knows, but at least Samsung made something new that's never been seen before.

The rounded corners wasn’t a great idea. As it wouldn’t be fully rounded when closed, giving it a half rounded rectangle look. Should’ve kept it boxy; they did too much.

That being said, still an impressive piece of tech.

Why is everyone saying this is expensive?

The iPhone XS Max with 512gb storage is $1,449.00, has half as many screens and 1/3 as many cameras and looks 99% like a phone from last year.

(Both phones are out of my price range anyway. iPhone 6S+ keeps on chugging :)

Gosh... the price of convergence.

Let's not forget that this Samsung "phone" screen is rather small... and the "tablet" screen is around an iPad Mini size. It's sorta the worst of both worlds.

You can get an iPhone and an 11" iPad Pro and it's still cheaper than this.

And both of those Apple devices... while separate... are each better at what they do.

This reminds me of the 2-in-1 laptop craze. "Laptop and tablet in one" they said.

But is it really?

:p

Having an iPad mini with me , without having an iPad mini with me is intriguing! The mini was and is a super device as is the iPhone 4s.

Now just unfold your phone for the mini expierence everywhere every time, sounds nice to me.

Not quite...

The Galaxy Fold screen unfolded is MUCH wider than even the largest iPhone screen today. :p

Doesn’t matter if it’s much wider if the XS Max is already too wide to type with one hand comfortably and easily and securely… Which it is.

If you’re going to tell me the XS max is great for one-handed typing I think we’re probably not going to have a great convo here… lol

Bizarre...the "phone" version of the screen is actually completely separate and on the opposite side of the hardware from the "tablet" version of the screen.

I recently did some contract work in the OLED industry and learned that foldable screens are at the top of all of their priorities list. Customers like Apple and Samsung are chomping at the bit for it.

That’s what’s gonna make this truly hilarious when this exact same group of naysayers in here is now all the sudden slobbering all over Apple for doing something very similar at some point.

Huh?

If you try doing math, the Galaxy Fold offers about 160 cm3 of display area. Or about double that of a Plus phone.

Watch him struggle to pull up Google Maps.

And are they kidding with the bezels on the front and the thickness of the phone when folded? LOL

It just took him a couple of tries to hit a small button while his thumb was shaking

I've seen iPhones completely crash in Apple demos and they swap to one of their multiple backups

Funny how they appear to have used the iPhone X as basis for the Fold design. Guess it was too late to take the new iPad Pro as inspiration.
