Yeh, I just don't get the yawns. If you are yawning then you're an Apple fanboy and gobble anything up with fruit logo on it; and not really a "tech fan" as a general category.

This is impressive tech no matter what company released it. Folding and an under-display camera in the mass market. Has basically every spec; even those the iPhone still doesn't.

And why do it? Because if no one does it we never move forward with tech. Somoene has to leap first.
Surprised you got even a single downvote for this actually.

There is sometimes just too much emphasis on specs and not enough focus on the end user experience.

I've said it before and I will say it again...I will buy Apple's version at launch even though I'm sure there will be some hiccups. This tech is outstanding and it will only get better. 99% of the people posting that this tech doesn't appeal to them have never touched any of the Galaxy Folds, let alone owned one of them. My friend had the Fold 1 and now has the Fold 2. I've spent several hours using it over the past few months, just to experience it as much as possible without actually buying one. Even though I despise Samsung and Google, the phone is amazing. Anyone who owns an iPhone and an iPad will want the Apple version. Even the ones who don't will be camping out at Apple stores when they finally launch their version. For two reasons. One, the tech is awesome and two, they are the type of people who want to look cool at Starbucks while ordering a Chai Tea Latte with extra glitter. Facts.

Won't touch Samsung products anymore, overrated garbage.

tried the S8, S9 and S10 then the fold 2 and all sent back after a week due to how awful he whole experience is.

Gimmick ***** at every turn, plastic on a $800 s21, cold unfriendly UI, terrible naming, BTS overloading, poor support and from every clip of these new phones the UI is STILL laggy and awkward app switching.

it's just not good enough for those prices, iPhone and pixel **** all over them for smoothness and transitions.

If I ever go to Android, it'll be a pixel because software seems to not be important to samsung as they shove hardware specs down your throat at every turn.

Samsung products and UI are cold, unfriendly and clinical, suited to an office workplace in 1995.

Do you own an iPad?
I have to agree with @dugbug I just don’t see the appeal of the folding phone. Preferably a rollable phone with an extendible screen but still returns back to our familiar common form factor.

right now other than maps, browsing just running several apps on a screen there is now ground breaking use case. Even Samsung cannot effectively show the NEED for such an expensive device beyond 4 apps & a few widgets or what Flossy Carter catch phrase “a major, major Go”. More isn’t directly connected with “better” or “productive”

Flex ribbon cables inside laptops which is similar idea have been around for ages and are durable except maybe for Apple. They maintain a bend radius for longevity and don't fold like a sheet of paper.
A screen is rather more complicated than a cable.

The way I see it is that it could replace an iPad mini which I use all the time. When im at home my "phone" is always open and I use it as my iPad consumption device. When I leave the house it folds up and I cary my phone and it acts as a phone too. I make a mount for my car and use it as my CarPlay device, fold it up take it with me. I basically have two devices in one at that point.
So yes there are big use cases for flip phones that can turn into tablets and do everything a normal phone can do.
Its just a matter of time when they get so good there will be no crease and have better hardware.
I personally am excited for a device like this for those exact reasons. It will save me getting an iPad. Just waiting for apple to release one that is at the level I want...

I love the form factor, how about something that could be the size of the current mini in every dimension but unfolds to a much larger screen, really don't get why some people wouldn't like this. Or something the size of the current 12 Pro Max that unfolds to a gigantic screen.
Some people just cant see the use cases for it and just want a phone. To me its the most exciting thing phones are becoming and will make me buy one less thing. I just want the crease to be gone.
Some people just don't like anything new which I find strange. Im a tech fan in general and when I see something that has actual use case with tons of potential I pay attention.

You still have to use two hands to unfold these phones. Flip phones would spring open for one-handed operation. That is the more useful reason to have flip phones in the first place.

You realize Samsung makes a lot of the internal parts that Apple uses, right?

That's true, it would be easier, but you don't really want it spring open easily either. I've had lots of flip phones over the years and none of them sprung open easily, it always took 2 hands. My fav was a Blackberry flip phone, it actually worked quite well, even with a tiny screen.

My iPhone has been my primary a long time too, but when my new Zflip comes in, I believe that's going to be primary. I'm going to try zfip+Apple watch to see how things go. I'm worried about batttery life on the watch mainly. If it doesn't work, I'll have to think some more. My Samsung watch is the previous model and I'm not real wild about it.
The Apple watch has no problems being alone. (I have the latest) I tested calling and receiving calls and I'm sitting at 91% battery charge after 4 hours. Cool, this allows me to have my iPhone's number with me at the same time I have my android's number, without carrying 3 devices.

Got my pre-order in for the 512 Fold 3. iPhone users will obviously dismiss anything that Apple hasn't fed them yet but once they do, then it will be the greatest thing ever! Remember all the arguments about not needing or wanting AMOLED, Always On Display, 120hz, In screen Touch ID... Yea wait till you guys get 120hz and hopefully a fold this decade. 🤣

It's not that they don't like it or have a use for it. It just boils down to that it's not an Apple Fold. They said the same thing when Samsung had huge phones. They didn't need a big screen back then. But then Apple told them they needed a big screen with the iPhone 6 Plus and they all went nuts lol

Most of my gadgets are Apple, but I love tech. So I love all this stuff from other companies. The Galaxy Fold is something I would be interested in if my iPhone 12 Pro wasn't still rocking. I'm not upgrading for a while but if/when I do the Fold will be something I will look into. It will be even better a couple years from now when I'm ready to upgrade.

Definitely not arguing with you here, but I have to ask which flip phones you've owned where you needed two hands to open them? Even my Moto StarTAC opened using one hand way back in the day. The majority of the flip phones that I owned opened using one hand. Just curious more than anything.

I will suggest that the use case for a larger screen is self-evident. It's a larger canvas for art. It's better visibility of the world in games. It's full side-by-side apps for productivity. It's a more book-like experience for reading. It's submenus next to menus for UI.

I'm not saying that this has value for everyone. But I don't think every phone should be limited to features that are of use to everyone. It's OK to have big phones and small phones, rigid phones and folding phones. The more options there are, the more likely there is to be a phone that is best for me.

Many of them! And no, I don't remember what models they all were. The Blackberry was a pearl 8230. I have a current alcatel prepaid phone that the hinge is just too stiff to flip open one handed. It's close though, maybe it'll loosen up after awhile. My Motorola Razr (the one released last year is WAY to stiff to open one handed, ever.

I haven't had a startac phone. Perhaps you can flip them open a lot harder than I can...

Fair enough, thanks! Crazy that the old Razr flipped open with one hand but the new one doesn't.

My hands are not strong, so it's probably just me, but the new Motorola Razr, nah, I don't think anyone could flip that one open. Maybe if you started it open with your thumb prying it apart...

Good ideas but no taste of gaming this isn’t advice to use for it I mean when fold it open and see more flimsy or in more potential damage with rapid tapping and frustration of gaining which happens no not enough ice to do that I would like to see a survey of Fold 1, 2 & 3 users that actually game.
