Damn, I have to admit it. The Korean design masters at Samsung just wiped the floor with Apple's multicultural elite design team. Wow. Got to give credit where credit is due. This should make every iWatch wearer hang their head in shame for spending so much for so little. For a rectangular watch, no less. Listen, dummies at Apple, a circle looks nicer and list view UIs work just as well as on rectangular displays. Tech is about function over form. And circle faces look better. Rectangular faces offer no advantages, other than to make one look like a dork.

This makes me want to stash my iWatch in a drawer along with the useless iPad, iPod, and MacBook Air.

Every time I see someone with an iWatch, I just laugh at their faces and they just look away, because they know they look like a dork. Why would anyone want something so ugly, something that looks like a computer strapped around their wrist? It doesn't do anything remotely useful. Health tracking? Don't make me laugh. That is so pompous, so pretentious of Apple, to think they can craft technology to help people take a little more responsiblity over their health. Disgusting.

This new Samsung watch will make everyone who dons it feel like they are wearing a premium luxury watch, that is sure to attract girls. I'd be proud to wear it in public and show off such a beautifully crafed object, by the best designers in the world. The Korean committee at Samsung.

For example, the rotating dial is a far, far more clever design than the Digital Crown. Think about it. Pushing your index finger to roll the crown is too complex and not intuitive at all. But rotating the watch dial is a very easy and intuitive design concept. Force Touch is dumb. Taptic Engine is dumb. Samsung knows it's better to have bigger battery than these stupid gimmicks. Ooh, I feel a tap on my wrist, ooh, I can interact on z-axis interfaces. Stop. Just stop.

I bow down to you, Samsung. You are the new technology overlords I will serve.
I don't remember the last time I laughed so hard at a post here. This was awesome. Monty Python couldn't have written it better.

Benchmarks do nothing for real world use. The S1 is far more efficient and optimized for the software, in comparison to the phone-designed SD 400 that is completely un-optimized for Android Wear that is nowhere near as efficient. Around the launch of the Apple Watch, it was mentioned somewhere that the S1 had the same power as the A5.

It's true that there is not much elsewhere, but just from talking to coworkers, there are a lot who want a smartwatch and they have been looking at the Gear S2, FitBit Blaze, or Pebble because they offer something that the Apple Watch doesn't.

Talk about blind love... How can you ignore the painstaking slowness of the apple watch? I really would like to love it, but it's just so bloody slow and unresponsive at times that even the iPhone4 with IOS7 fells like proper lightning. If AW2 with watchOS3 is not in the 3-5 times faster ballpark, then i'll skip AW all together.

That's a hell of a lot more screen real estate in a similarly sized package, but that's Apple's MO seeing how overly large the iPhone series is versus its screen size. Just look at the massive bezels on the AW, embarrassing in 2016, and hey they are going to release it again as a new model in a week.

Yeah and that's the real trouble with AW/AW2. It's in dire need of loosing those huge bezel's. Heck, the bezel realestate on the AW is almost equal to the screens realestate. It's so NOT 2015 tech that I just can't believe it. Just think how great the AW would be if the screen went all the way to the aluminium... Talk about love at first sight.

To be honest, the first impression I got was it felt like a Garmin Fenix because of that rugged look. It was my gut reaction.
Upon closer inspection, the S3 is much cleaner (i.e. no screws).

Yeah I wouldn't say it's going for copying exactly, but since it's an addition to their existing line, it is supposed to be similarly rugged, I would assume. Doesn't seem like a blatant ripoff or copy, imho.

If Apple doesn't wake up out of its complacency, they're going to end up being the next Blackberry, Palm Pilot, etc...

Apple needs to be careful. Apart from iOS, they are falling behind Samsung in every way. Its a much better watch than Apples. It looks like a mans watch and not a piece of thin jewellery. Bigger screen, better glass, better battery, LTE etc,,,and it works with iPhone. If it did Apple Pay as well, it would be perfect.
I dare Tim Cook to stand on stage next week and claim AW2 to be the best smart watch in the world

You have to compare Apples to Apples. You're showing Android's square screen to Android's round screen, specifically the Moto 360 with the flat tire, instead of the Huawei that has an edge to edge screen. But here's a direct comparison to the Moto with text:

Note all the unused space, even with the flat tire. Now here's the same exact text display optimized for the Moto:

You see that so much more text can be included in the round display than with the Watch square display. Now imagine if this were a Huawei, and not the moto with the flat tire. There's a lot more space to optimize per task.

So no matter how you slice it, a similarly sized round watch even displays text better than the Watch for applications that require that. Of course the Watch gains the lead again when they get rid of those bezels, but for the last 2 years, round watches technically have had the advantage, whether they utilized it effectively or not. If Apple keeps the exact same display and bezels, then that advantage continues on for other manufactures to capitalize on it.
Finally, someone who gets it. Great comparison pictures. I always feel like I'm hitting my head on a brick wall when i try to explain a round screen will actually have more screen real estate than a square one at the same size, it just needs to be optimozed for.

You forgot to add the /s tag - it's difficult to spot sometimes - but well done, I was going to call you our for trolling - but realised my mistake.

You know, if Samsung hadn't such a bad image problem being copycats and losers who have to put other companies down in their advertisements (= "all Apple fans are not up to it", thus losing a potential market), those bought reviews, those trolls who roam the mac forums, I'd be more than open to check it out as a viable alternative and at least a competitor I can tip my hats off and say: "Okay, Apple - get moving".

But there's always the "meh-"-Samsung-factor which doesn't really make me want to chose this company, no matter what they produce. I just don't trust them - that sums it up and that's what makes me not care about Samsung, its products or its fans which they may very well deserve and have.

I just don't care.

Even though I'm a huge fan of the iPhone and iPad, I've resisted the Apple watch and other "modern electronic" watches. I hate that it would be yet another device I had to charge each day, but I also don't like those styles. I'd rather wear a TAGHeuer Carrera or a Rolex Daytona because I like that style, but I have to admit, this Samsung watch looks really cool. Maybe someday I will switch to a more modern electronic watch.

Beautiful....WOW!!!! I hope Apple is taking notes here...

Not going to lie but I felt the same with the Note 7. Superior design and features but their software implementation on Android turns me off because it's not as smooth as my iPhone 6/SE. But then again the lag and slowness of the Apple Watch has been highly criticized. That's why I'm waiting for version 2 of the Apple Watch. I freaking hate lags and stutters on my gadgets be it Android or iOS.
But if I can get a first gen 42mm Apple Watch for under $150 in the next 2 weeks I may bite the bullet assuming the gen 2 42mm starts between $350 to $400.

I love this post. I would argue with you about the iPad (I travel a lot carrying the iPhone, laptop, and iPad ... I get a lot of use from my iPad) but you are spot on with this post. This is a cool looking watch.

I knew someone would bring this up. *sighs* Very rare though.

Samsung have stopped shipping the Note7 because of this.

Perhaps if people charged their iPhone's correctly it wouldn't happen, ever thought about that?

This though, pretty funny.

Yeah. Because when it comes to iPhone, it must be users fault.

If only Samsung could make a good OS.
Well they keep using Tizen. Developers just aren't there for that OS. I've owned a Gear S watch and for 1.5 years now and have probably only worn it for about five months in all that time. It's boring with real developer support. To be fair, Apples watch hasn't interested me either.

Sure. But that leaves small wristed women out of the market for smartwatches.

Yeah, but there is no smartwatch for that segment right now. Everything looks like a box on their wrist with a massive band (not elegant at all) not surprised they not even trying. The tech not there yet.
