So when will Samsung make a smartwatch that looks like a woman's watch, and something women can and want to wear?

They do. Gear S2 looks sexier than Apple Watch.

gear-s2_design_dark-gray-and-silver.jpg

Why would they allow a competitor who flat out copied their phone designs to have any place in their iOS or OS X environments?
What are you talking about? The watch works with iOS. It's predecessor works with iOS. Apple provides the access through TestFlight. What they don't currently allow is access to the NFC chip so that Samsung Pay can work. But afaik, they don't allow access to the NFC chip to anyone.

MS and Google apps permeate the app store. Samsung Gear watches work with iOS. The Apple you're describing doesn't exist anymore. Thankfully

Okay, that looks good. What size are they? Do they have a size equivalent to the 38mm Apple Watch?
The S2 Sport is 42mm. There isn't much bulk around the sides, so it looks slimmer in person.
I have the black one. They come with both small and large band sizes in the box.

Here's what it looks like on my wrist.

Well, the 38mm Apple Watch just barely fits me, I can't wear anything larger. It's not the band size, the watch body itself would be larger than the flat part of my wrist.

Choice is wonderful, isn't it? I know people with twig wrists who wear 50mm U-Boat watches and they are happy with their watches.

Well, currently, if you want a smartwatch smaller than 42mm, then it seems Samsung isn't an option.

It's 83.6% more volume than the Apple Watch 42mm, and 115.4% more than the 38mm.

Both of which are already a little on the too-big side.

Long way to go.

I'm sure most people calculate watch volume before they buy.

You must have missed the part where I said choice is a good thing.

Just a week ahead of Apple's planned September 7 event, Samsung today unveiled its latest smart watch, the Gear S3. Samsung's newest wearable device comes in two varieties - a "Classic" model with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and "Frontier" model that features LTE support. GPS, a new feature, is built into each model.

An always-on Super AMOLED display is included and with LTE, the Frontier model, positioned as the more rugged, outdoor Gear S3 watch, can load data quickly enough to stream songs from music services like Spotify.

Both Gear S3 models look similar, with a 46mm solid steel case and a rotating bezel (adopted from the Gear S2) that's used to swap between watch faces and select apps. The Gear S3 uses standard 22mm watch bands that are compatible with a wide range of third-party band options, and its larger body houses a 380 mAh battery that's able to last up to four days between charges.Other features built into both the Gear S3 Classic and the Gear S3 Frontier include the same activity tracking options available in all Gear smart watches, IP-68 water resistance, miltary-level durability, barometer/speedometer, support for Samsung Pay and MST/NFC payment transactions, and speakers. The Gear S3 also uses Corning's new Gorilla Glass SR+, said to be super scratch resistant.

The Gear S3 continues to use Samsung's Tizen operating system. Software updates being introduced today will also be brought to the Gear S2, Samsung's previous generation Smart Watch that will continue to exist in the Gear lineup.

Samsung has not yet unveiled pricing or a specific release date for the Gear 3 smart watch, but it is expected to be released in the U.S. later this year.

Apple may release details on its next-generation Apple Watch at its September event. Rumors suggest the device will include a faster processor, a better battery, and built-in GPS, but design changes are not expected.

Update: According to a Samsung representative that spoke to SamMobile, the Gear S3 will work with the iPhone, likely via the Gear mobile app that's in development for iOS devices.

That's a very handsome-looking watch and with new innovation. Give credit where credit is due, people.

Let's all compare this with a watch that's 18 months old. 100% fair.

IT's the same processor, same design, same styling, same manufacturer and same awesome watch LIKE the Gear S2. So what's not fair?

Aside from being very similar styling and design as the Gear S2, you have major improvements in the areas the Gear S2 lacked. Samsung listens to its customers. Unlike apple who don't give two shts about you except that you pull out your wallet and pay for bullcrap.

Look Apple HAVE made some nice products but it's due time they listened to their buyers and do something right. The AW is so ugly and the design looks like something you'd get inside a cereal box. The Gear S2/S3 looks gorgeous. The rotating bezel is just pure awesome. This is what Apple should've made in the first place.

But let's all wait for the 9/7 so we can all bitch and complain about more AW bands and Disney watch faces.

So let me see if I've got this right...throw a round display on a smart watch and it's the greatest thing since sliced bread? I guess I'm the only one completely fine with my smart watch not looking like a mechanical watch. If I wanted a mechanical watch I would buy one. The battery life would be a helluva lot better that's for sure...

They have equivalent sizes. One looks like a modern time piece while the other an iPod with straps.

What's modern about a watch with a circular face? I get that some people will prefer circular over rounded red but don't tell me it's modern. Modern would be something new and different that doesn't try to look like a mechanical watch.

well.. if samsung can do this, I think we're in for a real treat at the upcoming apple event, regarding the watch 2. I can't imagine it will be a major step down from this. I don't mind the square display AT ALL. Still love the design of the apple watch!

Samsung is so far ahead of Apple it's disturbing. If the apps didn't suck and android had iMessage I'd have a Samsung note 7 right now.

Maybe not calculate, but they'll look and feel the bulk of a watch when they are buying one, and that'll factor into their decision, if one is noticeably bulkier than the other.

As for choice, how do I have a choice if Samsung doesn't offer a smaller watch? That limits my choice.

They have equivalent sizes.

So they have two sizes? I looked at their website and I only found reference to one size.

I already have issues with the AW fitting under some long sleeve shirts. This watch is even thicker. If Apple decides to go with a bigger screen, they need to keep it from getting thicker (I wouldn't mind seeing a millimeter or two shaved off).

I doubt that this watch would work with Siri, which would make it much less useful than the AW for my needs.

Heres the one my wife likes, size is about the same as the 42mm Apple watch. Unfortunately I don't think anyone makes one the same size as the 38mm Apple watch.

42mm is the perfect size for me, I just want them to go thinner, go round, and smaller bezels design wise.
Something like this would be awesome.

It's a modern display because there were no mass production, decent resolution, circular OLED wrist displays just a few years ago. It's a consumer tech breakthrough.

As for the shape, yes, a lot of us do like having a watch that looks like a mechanical watch.

We get that you don't agree with any of this, and that's fine. If Apple ever brings out a round watch, I'm sure you'll diss the heck out of it :)

They have a beta version out for iOS, will be on iOS by years end.

I a week ago went to the Note 7 so I bought the Gear S2 and LOVE it!! I like it a lot more than my Apple Watch, which I will be selling this weekend. Even has Samsung Pay so I can pay for stuff like I did with the Apple Watch.

Did you get the exploding version of the Note 7?

It's 50% bigger the size of the big Apple Watch, it's a monster. It'sfunny, how everytime one comes out that's round we get the same comment and when we see them in person (go to the long line of failed watches at Best Buy), they're basically the same crap quality build as usual.

How is that better for actually USING THE THING. The smart watches aren't just watches you know..
And such a design would be bigger than the 42mm BTW.
