I love Apple but i think SamSung is way ahead apple in terms of design these days. this watch just cant be compared to the AW because its simply a much better product. I wish Apple would have hardware this good, just like i wish the iphone 6s was as good as the Samsung Galaxy Edge 7.
But the app support for Samsung watches isn't very good. Which is why the Apple watch overall is a better product. Plus it has meaningful updates like 3.0

The only reason for a round face is the pre-medieval mechanical sundial with pointy things going round and round with a layout which is a result of the ancient Babylonian astrologers' obsession with the number 12. Some people might like having Babylonian astrology tech on their wrist, that is fine. I'm not one of them.

Many of the first clocks were square because they were on building towers or in chunky boxes. Their cases later went round so they could fit nicer into pockets and on top of bare skin.

As for having "old" designs on one's wrist, one could likewise argue that the main reason to have a rectangular smartwatch, is because it's a skeuomorphic representation of old green screen computer terminals that could only display blocked text, which themselves derived from block printing ;)

--

Perhaps this doesn't apply to you, but I've come to suspect that many people who are against round watches, are people who cannot read an analog clock face. It's amazing how many younger (under 50) people I've run into like that. Naturally they prefer digital clocks.

Article says 4 days of battery life. If true, that's awesome. I'm seriously impressed by what I'm reading, assuming it's all accurate.

Finally, some real competition to get Apple to improve the AW. Up until now, it was pretty up-in-the-air about which smart watch was best, as they all had pretty similar features. Always on display? 4 day battery? GPS? Streaming music via cellular? All things that would greatly benefit the AW.

Second that. However, I'd be surprised if Samsung managed to offer such a product. Not because it's Samsung but because battery life has been the Achilles' Heel of all smart watches ever since.

I think Apple tried to deliver a good compromise with their first Apple Watch (I don't own one so I'll leave detailed reviews to well informed folks on here), but Samsung's announcement sounds like over-promising and under-delivering. To me, at least.

I'd be happy to be disproved, though. Competition is good for business.

Agreed. If the New Samsung Watch proves worthy, I would consider it, mainly I would like the diversity of having a round Watch and square Watch with Apple. But then again, I have no doubt Apple will introduce a round Watch eventually. Also, the Apple Watch works so well with the iPhone, so it may be worth waiting for.

So, men who choose to sport larger watches are "Douchebags?" Why? Isn't this a choice of style and one should called a name for wearing a larger watch for a preference? Gee, What does the make men who wear watches that have small watch faces? Wait, never mind, don't answer that, I'm sure it will result in another cheap insult from you to men who wear watches.
Looks like a touched a nerve lol

Yes, and the young people of today no longer know how to use a rotary phone either.
I grew up in a time that digital clocks were a novelty, so I don't know if would have managed to avoid learning to read clocks if I was a lot younger. Having a dial to show time on a computer feels like a quartz wall clock with a pendulum. Maybe you remember those. I found them grossly idiotic at the time, it's been a long time since I saw one.

I know 3 people with an apple watch. All 3 say that they don't install many apps, they just use it as is? Yes, more apps would be better but not that crucial. Also, the Frontier has LTE which no apple watch has (at least, not until next year). In the past, on a different network, I had the Gear S. It was nice having 3g to get phone calls, web, and texts without carrying my phone. This is a big upgrade.

I'm wondering, the ribbed ring around the dial, does it do anything or is it just there to make the watch more butch?
Rotate it and it cycles through the interface, works a treat on my s2.

A lot of Apple products will be on display in modern art museums, the Apple Watch definitely.
I have old iPods and iPhones laying around the house and still admire how great their designs are.
This Samsung watch will NEVER be regarded as anything but tacky.
I'm not hating on Samsung, I've been saying for years how great the Note 5 and now Note 7 look.
I would have bought one but they run Android, which means you have to hard reset it multiple times a day and good luck it being upgraded to the latest version of Android a year later.

There is so much wrong with this I don't even know where to start. Lol , and I'm not talking about opinions, .. word of advice, if you are going to slag off a product at least make sure you know what operating system it uses... lol

Have a good day sir...

very nice Samsung. if only it was WatchOS.
Erm.. the most complicated watch OS on the market... lol

Read every review, bar none do they agree the tizen OS is the easiest most intuitive watch OS released so far..

Haha. So a pedantic argument about What operating system that ugly watch uses is what's " so wrong"

Go try at trolling though.

Trolling? Is this a joke..

OK then, firstly, you don't even know the OS, major fail.

2ndly, if it was Android, u think it needs resetting multiple times a day. Lol wow, even in 2009, this wasn't the case. Android is a mature stable OS, where do you get the info it needs resetting all the time.

3rdly, no updates? I've had two software updates on my S2 since I got it 6 months ago. Along with the monthly security updates on my s6 edge . So again, just miss information.

And you call me trolling... brilliant..

Yes you're trolling. You know very well Android is know for screwing up on a daily basis needing a physical shutdown. It is also known that most android devices are abandoned by the manufacturer the instant they are sold. Most android phones have generations old software with no hope of an update ever. How many android devices run the lastest software? Close to none.

So quit your trolling and be careful who you troll because you will be promptly put in your place.

Thank you.

Umm... the S3 doesn't run Android Wear. So not sure where you're going with this.

I'm I explained already that that was a mistake.
We were discussing how ugly the wretched thing is. Forgive if I didn't dot an i.
So yes you're trolling as you got stuck on the one point and ran with it.

Yeah, I understand having digital time on the status bar of say, a computer or phone, because it fits better and is easy to read when small.

OTOH, a lot of people prefer analog because it's easier to instantly determine durations. Perhaps especially those of us who have been wearing watches 24/7 since we were kids.

Of course, sometimes having both display styles is handy :D

Which clock face do you use on your Apple Watch?

Oh dear, someone is stuck in 2008, if you genuinely believe this rubbish, well good for you. I honestly thought even the most die hard Apple fans accepted that Android was nothing like it's early versions..

With regards that last bit, sounds almost like an agressive stance, not sure why. We are only discussing your complete lack of any technical knowledge. Deffo nothing to get tetchy about.

You enjoy the rest of your evening now.

That's what I'm worried about. Would be majorly disappointing if they're all talk, and it turns out their smart watch is pretty generic. I hope there's no hidden asterisks that claim "*4 day battery life was achieved with always-on display disabled, battery savers enabled, Bluetooth, GPS and cellular off, and with one time-check per day."

Just one? Stop trying to force your opinion on everyone else and let me have my own. Stop being asinine.

My opinion? Or direct observation of your self insinuated childish comment made to men who prefer large Watches? I'm thinking the latter. You made a comment referring to men as "Douchebags" who wear large Watches. Did you think making a comment like that would not draw a response? Really? What exactly are you defending? Your original snide remark, besides a lack of decorum to other men.

If you don't like my opinion, use the ignore button. I'm not influencing anyone else, only calling out someone who has no respect, other subjecting to name calling to men who like large Watches. I will offer my opinion any time I Deem it necessary. In your case, it's necessary.

Did I touch a nerve?

I've been saying for the last few pages that it is too large for me, a smallish woman. Other posters have also said it is too large for them.

This is the post I replied to. The Samsung watch was not mentioned.

No, but there's plenty of feedback, especially from women, that most smartwatches are too large. It doesn't matter whether they calculate actual volume differences; it matters how they perceive it.

Not really..no..infact majority here are liking Gear S3s design.and it's well known how ugly Apple watch is...big chunky bulky, square.ughh

The Apple Watch is the best selling smartwatch by far. People can say what they want but people are voting overwhelmingly with their hard earned cash for the Apple Watch.
Like I said, I work in design, poll released

If my calculations are correct the Moto360 and Huawei has more screen real estate than the Apple Watch. Depending on UI, it has the potential to show more data than the Apple Watch. The Moto360 has the most screen real estate (even more than the Huawei), but has the lowest PPI.

You're right.

In fact, Motorola used to love to point out that their watch had a higher display-to-case ratio than anyone else. For example, the Apple Watch (among others) actually uses less than half its case's frontal area for display.

display-body-ratio2.jpg

Which is why frontal comparison photos are so misleading. Our brains just assume that the Apple Watch can show more than it does, because the all black front fools the eye.

Actually those had hundreds of buttons, like a tiny Blackberry.
While the idea of wearing something that could do more than show the time was appealing, I never got one of those.
Round watches look like you operate a steam engine and have an astrolabe in your satchel.
The gland that makes the nostalgia hormone, I don't have it.

You response was so ****ing stupid...I don't know where to begin to respond to it....
