A great reminder that a watch can be circular and still look ugly.

I don't know. I can see the appeal to many of those that still want something with s more traditional watch look. I get annoyed with Samsung biting Apple left and right, but their hardware design is improving since they copy from the best. From the new Note to this, they've improved big-time. Once they get their software finally good, they'll become a decent alternative.

very nice Samsung. if only it was WatchOS.

As far as the UI, I'm glad it's not.

Reviews praise Samsung's bezel input.

OTOH, I think Apple went more than a bit insane with all the mixed input methods on their watch. It's not always clear whether you use touch, Force Touch, the button or the crown... and sometimes you need almost all of them to complete a single task.

I think Jobs would've told them to get rid of all but one input method.

To me, sometimes it feels like Samsung has created what Apple would've created under Jobs, and Apple just repeated what had already been done years ago.

That's all personal preference. For me I like a round watch face over a square one, and its one particular reason I'm not a fan of the Apple Watch.

It's all personal preference. I prefer round watches too, but that's not my biggest complaint with the Watch, it's the rounded, chiclet-like design. I don't like the way it sits on my wrist. It's a nice looking design, and I don't mind wearing it, but I don't love it. And that's a pretty damning thing to say about something you spend over $400 on and wear prominently on the body. No number of fashionable bands are going to mitigate that fact.

That's why these threads are so hysterical, they devolve so quickly into attacks about personal style and aesthetic as if that somehow makes one superior to the other, rather than focus on the technical merits of the product, which in this case, can't really be debated.

Funny how many people are always saying that the Apple Watch is too fat and feels like a big block staped to their arms ... and just jump ship to the S3 after seeing an unveiling video.
After watching the Verge hands on with the S3 ... it makes the Apple Watch look Slim and discrete !

Wow, spec-wise this thing sounds very sexy. Could be a strong competition for 'smart' GPS watches like the Garmin fenix 3, if it features a realiable stand-alone GPS.

In real life I get 3 days out of my s2, whether or not this is unique I don't know, but I think it's awesome..
Do you use the screen always on feature? Because, according to what I've heard and read, people are not getting two days even with it off. Maybe with very light use and screen off you'd get 3 days, but then it'd lose the purpose, I want to use all the features the watch offers... One thing I'm really interested is the always on screen. I easily manage to get two days with the Apple Watch, but I

I don't know, maybe battery technology is simply no there for us to achieve a truly functional smartwatch with all the features we want lasting more than two days.

Yeah, the S3 does look huge on the guys wrist and in his hand in this video. While I'm quite interested in it for its design, I'd certainly want to try one on first before I buy.

Look at how skinny that guy's arms are, and how tight his shirt is.

I never trust photos. They made the Moto 360 and LGR look big too, but in real life they work fine for me, and I'm a fairly slim guy.

Like you, I'd need to see one in person.

So the S3 is 46mm in diameter according to c|net. I don't have a metric ruler handy so converting that to standard makes it 1.811 inches (almost 2 inches). Here is the Skagen watch I'm wearing right now and you can see how much larger the S3 would be on me.

It's about the same thickness as most diver watches on the market.

This is kind of like someone on a sports car forum saying they don't like the latest style of a Mustang, but when pressed, admits that they don't like any pony car shape at all.

If you hate either round or rectangular, then that's fine, but it makes any comparison opinions pretty moot :)

I don’t dislike the shape; I dislike the design of this watch. It is seemingly trying to look like a regular watch and it’s doing a good job in my opinion. It’s just that regular watches are really pedestrian and mostly ugly to me. They - and this watch - are the opposite of sleek and minimal, qualities I happen to like… which is kind of why I’m on an Apple forum saying I don’t like the non-minimal/sleek style of a Samsung watch. :)

I know it is, watches really dont have to be slim ... in fact they feel cheap imo when they are too slim.
My point was that before the S3 came along, the Apple watch was being bashed for being Fat ... now people are starting to move away from that argument and maybe start thinking that this product category doesnt need to be slimed down.

This is a watch and a wearable device ... of course no arms are gona be the same size and some will make the watch look enormous and some will not... I still think Apple took the right path with 2 sizes and this should be standard practice in the wearable market

A square watch will always look bigger than a round one, even if its not.

First impressions just by looking at the video, it does indeed look awesome!

But I still am happy with the Apple Watch, and more importantly am waiting for OS3 than v2.
Although I'd gladly buy a brand new one if they introduce a round design!

Edit - Before this thread turns into a pissing contest, competition is good for us consumers people and I hope Apple and Samsung keep going at it to win our affection.. eerr money lol. :D

I love Apple but i think SamSung is way ahead apple in terms of design these days. this watch just cant be compared to the AW because its simply a much better product. I wish Apple would have hardware this good, just like i wish the iphone 6s was as good as the Samsung Galaxy Edge 7.

I agree, this looks great (IMO). I'm not going to base my opinion off of Samsung's marketing materials though and I'm certainly not going to compare it to a watch that hasn't even been announced yet.

I've always had Apple phones and I own the current gen watch. Samsung is really pushing Apple, has been for a year or two, and that's good for everyone. If Apple isn't concerned with what Samsung is doing then they're going to have a problem. May not this year or next but somewhere down the line.

One place Samsung dropped the ball... this is a men's watch... period. I see a lot of women with Apple Watches but I find it hard to imagine many are going to buy or wear this Samsung watch.
