Yeah, that's why I liked the S2, it was smaller than most other smartwatches out there, thinner also. I'm not sure yet if I'll like the S3, guess I have to try it on. I do hope that it remains thin though. That's one thing I think uglifies a smartwatch VERY quickly, all the ones out now are just really thick. Add the thickness and the arms of the watch just sticking up instead of contouring around the wrist. I'm also sick and tired of having the same old hundred year technology to attach the strap to. Although Apple's watch is fugly I am highly jealous of the quick detach strap, so you can change straps at will. Why is no one else making something similar?
With 3rd party straps so cheap, the options for that are great now.

The Apple Watch smokes the competition in nearly every category, and I can say this while being 100% serious. I have used Android Wear, Pebble OS, and watchOS extensively within the last year and watchOS is the most refined, consistent, and has the best app support and ecosystem of all the platforms. Android Wear is very beta feeling, with lots of stuttering and lag couples with random rebooting. The Pebble is very good (a very close second to the Apple Watch) but is nowhere near as feature rich as the Apple Watch.

Once watchOS 3 comes out, I don't think any other watch will be able to compare in terms of speed, reliability, or refinement. I'd say watchOS 3 is pretty revolutionary :)
Not saying the watch itself.. talking about the internal guts.. lte.. gps.. battery life.. all play a major factor. I love my Apple Watch and have testing over 50 others watches on the market. But Apple is falling drastically behind in internals such as battery life, screen resolution and even chipsets. They need a major wake up call.. just because your in the lead doesn't mean you can just keep coasting... eventually people do catch up and pass you by.

Again, totally a subjective opinion on your part. Large oversized watches are in right now, and many men like larger watches.

Oh please. Samsung didn't make this watch so large because "large oversized watches are in right now", but because their engineers failed to make it smaller.

Compared to what? What watch comes even close to the Apple Watch's volume and weight?

Getting better battery life is easy when you have twice the volume and weight.

Samsung decided people want bigger watch screens and now the watch screen size wars continue, until we have a screen the size of our left arm...

Yeah but you still have to take them off and replace them, having to fiddle with the pins and such. A smartwatch is supposed to be on the cutting edge of technology, and the S3 is, except for the strap system. Just a minor gripe though, really just wishing.

46mm is too big for you, not too big for the current watch market, particularly men's watches.

Too big for you.

Of course it's subjective, but I'm posting from my point of view and 46mm is still considered a large watch. There's been a bit of a backlash about the ever growing up-sizing of watches and quite a few manufactures are taking note and offering a lot more normal sized watches again. I'm not a fan of the looks of the Apple Watch but I think they got their size options pretty good.

While I hope it does well and pushes Apple in this space, what a boring design. Can't even tell it's designed by Samsung, just looks like some generic and gigantic watch. But maybe that's just me.

Apple's chipset is still one of the best, if not the best, on the market. The Snapdragon 400 in my Moto 360 pales in comparison to what Apple has done with the S1 in the Apple Watch. It is being hindered by the limitations of watchOS 2 though. Battery life has been outstanding, easily besting my Moto 360 2 in a day's worth of use, even though I use my Apple Watch substantially more. Screen resolution is better than most other watches if I'm not mistaken, it's right close to 300 ppi, whereas a lot of Android Wear watches are below 250.

But, I do agree that Apple needs to do something big for the next generation Apple Watch, or a lot of regular consumers will be looking elsewhere.

First impressions just by looking at the video, it does indeed look awesome!

But I still am happy with the Apple Watch, and more importantly am waiting for OS3 than v2.
Although I'd gladly buy a brand new one if they introduce a round design!

Edit - Before this thread turns into a pissing contest, competition is good for us consumers people and I hope Apple and Samsung keep going at it to win our affection.. eerr money lol. :D

Competition is good, if Apple actually steps up the game with something competitive. Often they rely too much on brand loyalty and refuse to offer something with similar specs or functionality.

Apple just got pwned. Gear S3 has superior battery life and is dead cool in style.

If only I could run iOS or vanilla Android on Samsung devices...

Hrm, have you been able to find actual benchmarks?

There isn't much 'elsewhere' yet, though.

Excellent, we can't rely on Apple's common sense, but hopefully, Samsung can strike the some fear into Apple's supply chain management guru.

It's easy to have superior battery life when you have twice the thickness, twice the internal volume, and twice the weight. Plus, for many, it will be way too chunky which isn't people's favorite style. In my personal opinion, Apple did not just get pwned.

Damn, I have to admit it. The Korean design masters at Samsung just wiped the floor with Apple's multicultural elite design team. Wow. Got to give credit where credit is due. This should make every iWatch wearer hang their head in shame for spending so much for so little. For a rectangular watch, no less. Listen, dummies at Apple, a circle looks nicer and list view UIs work just as well as on rectangular displays. Tech is about function over form. And circle faces look better. Rectangular faces offer no advantages, other than to make one look like a dork.

This makes me want to stash my iWatch in a drawer along with the useless iPad, iPod, and MacBook Air.

Every time I see someone with an iWatch, I just laugh at their faces and they just look away, because they know they look like a dork. Why would anyone want something so ugly, something that looks like a computer strapped around their wrist? It doesn't do anything remotely useful. Health tracking? Don't make me laugh. That is so pompous, so pretentious of Apple, to think they can craft technology to help people take a little more responsiblity over their health. Disgusting.

This new Samsung watch will make everyone who dons it feel like they are wearing a premium luxury watch, that is sure to attract girls. I'd be proud to wear it in public and show off such a beautifully crafed object, by the best designers in the world. The Korean committee at Samsung.

For example, the rotating dial is a far, far more clever design than the Digital Crown. Think about it. Pushing your index finger to roll the crown is too complex and not intuitive at all. But rotating the watch dial is a very easy and intuitive design concept. Force Touch is dumb. Taptic Engine is dumb. Samsung knows it's better to have bigger battery than these stupid gimmicks. Ooh, I feel a tap on my wrist, ooh, I can interact on z-axis interfaces. Stop. Just stop.

I bow down to you, Samsung. You are the new technology overlords I will serve.

That actually looks really nice; I like it and I don't like many watches and I'm not a fan of the Apple Watch so much either.
The Gear S3 classic pays homage to the minimalist, elegant style found in the most iconic timepieces.
That's something I look for when I want a watch and to me, many (traditional) watches are are just too busy for me.

Once the reveal they pricing of the S3, I might actually consider buying one.

There isn't much 'elsewhere' yet, though.

Benchmarks do nothing for real world use. The S1 is far more efficient and optimized for the software, in comparison to the phone-designed SD 400 that is completely un-optimized for Android Wear that is nowhere near as efficient. Around the launch of the Apple Watch, it was mentioned somewhere that the S1 had the same power as the A5.

It's true that there is not much elsewhere, but just from talking to coworkers, there are a lot who want a smartwatch and they have been looking at the Gear S2, FitBit Blaze, or Pebble because they offer something that the Apple Watch doesn't.

It took a while to hit their stride, but I feel like the Gear line is where Samsung is really trying to buck the image that started with the original Galaxy. They're using their own OS and more crucially their own hardware interface element based on traditional watches. It's clever.

I still can't stand their phone OS so it's sort of a non-starter for me, but I can respect the product itself.

Woo, another data plan, no thanks.

And before you say, when (not if) Apple do this with AW3, I won't be getting a separate data plan.

Nice looking.... but I'll hold out for Apple's version. I still have not seen the killer feature... except maybe telling time. :)

Feel free to disagree, but I feel it's killer feature is its location on your wrist.

The iPad's ability to run Safari didn't give the web to people who previously couldn't access it, but the form factor was its USP. :)
