Isn’t this simply a matter of personal preference. Buy the one you want.

I’ve used both Samsung and Apple phones. Been all iPhone for awhile, had 5,6,6s,7. Both brand work fine. I prefer iPhones. Makes family sharing and the things I need it for easier. Apple Music is awesome too

Protruding camera is getting out of hand Apple, it's ugly as hell.
Will be "magically" possible and corrected in iPhone 9..just like antenna bands became much more discreet in Phone 7 vs 6..while Samsung never had those stupid issues.
Hardware-wise,iPhone is always one step behind..
It's only software and iOS integration that I prefer and are superior, but Apple iPhone hardware is recently lagging behing Samsung, for sure.

It's funny, even the iPhone dummy beats the Samsung..
With tgat ugly as f protruding camera lens?
No way.

It's not debatable. The professionals at DX0MARK who are paid have concluded Samsung have better cameras.
Absolutely - albeit a score of 86 vs. 88 and that is the iPhone 7 because DX0MARK never reviewed the iPhone 7P, which obviously has a significantly better camera setup. Oh well, good thing that the new iPhone will have new cameras I guess....

I am talking facts , not subjective, opinions. Lab tests have concluded that the s8 is better.
Can you prove that statement? I'm not saying it's true or false, but Apple without fail always has surprises the analysts don't know about.

Thank you Tim Cook for showing up and letting us know what will be in the new 7S phones. It is great to see you participating here on MacRumors and providing insight.

However, while I think that the camera on the S8 edges out the iPhone 7 camera (slightly and expectedly as it was released just a few months ago, well after your iPhone 7), the quality analysis of the photos of all cameras and phones (including those reviewed by DX0MARK) are done by people analyzing the exposure, shadow detail, color rendering, etc., so it is still somewhat subjective and opinion. Again, I think the S8 does have a better camera, but it should considering its release date.

So make the iPhone thicker, I'm sure 98% of people would like a bigger battery that the extra space would allow as a bonus
Sry but no. To have a brick like note 8 in my hand and pocket, just for the sake of the flat camera design??!
Im not a child anymore, apple made the best compromise

I sure can. Look at the home pod firmware. Every unique feature relates to the iPhone 8.

The 7s will get a better waterproofing certification, glass back, wireless charging. That's all.

Remember Apple doesn't want the 7s to steal the 8's show. And so from hereon in the iPhone and iPhone plus lineup will keep languishing like the iPad air lineup while we have to shell out more than a grand for the real upgrades aka the pro lineup.

The S7/S7 edge had a better camera than the iPhone 7 and it was released 6 months before. In fact the cameras are the same on the S7 and S8.

I went and put the note 8 in my back pocket today, felt no different than my 6s+. It was a tad taller, but I couldn't notice while in my pocket.

Is that equivalent to people had to wait for the s8 to get pink screen?
Well at least the pink screen was reported on just 1 iteration of the Galaxy. How many years has yellow tint, and dead pixels been around again? 2 exchanges of the 10.5 and 3 exchanges of the 12.9 and 3 exchanges of the iPhone 6 are what it takes to get a perfect device.

In the US people had a delay in getting their products after ordering anjust released product. I never waited but I purchase my products in November and December.

When a product is released there is a delay. This is normal. When AMD Vega was released on 1 August, shipment started on the 28th. This is standard policy. The iPhone 8 is going to take months to be in stock. Its going to be frustrating finding an exact color with the exact storage variant. Well at least theres no yellow tint or dead pixels to worry about this time,so the units which customers DO get may be perfect
[doublepost=1503770867][/doublepost]
I don't think the 8 costs too much to make. Apple is a business. They will sell the 8 for much more than they pay for it to be produced. This isn't a charity.
This is the first time Apple's releasing a flagship and 2 budget models. The iPhone 8 has 3d sensors,OLED display,3d touch modules, AR support, curved edge bezelless displays, wireless charging. Apple also had to spend time optimising the OS for that form factor and make it compatible with the function bar.

So they are not going to spend much on the 7s as its selling point is the price. Giving it new upgradeworthy features would not only raise costs, but also the Selling price and undermine the 8.

Whoops the S7 already had a better score prior to the iPhone 7 launch

iPhone 8 competes with Galaxy S8

I don't think you can say just because the iPhone 8 offers less features that it doesn't compete with the Note 8. They are both the highest end smartphones from their respective manufacturer with a similar price, therefore they compete.

Actually, they aren't really in the same price bracket, as you can trade in a 5 year old iPhone 5 to samsung and get $200 off the price of the note 8 (good luck doing the same with apple), not to mention a free 128gb sd card and fast charge wireless charger (~$190 value) from pre-ordering.

Funny to see so many complaints about the camera sticking out a bit. Seems we have some that care far far far more about what their phone looks like than how it functions.

I bet these same people put a case on it that sticks out far further than the camera.

Some apple fans that care more about looks ...... form over function did you say?

You may find that the majority of apple fans and apple engineers / designers care about form over function.

Have a very very very careful look at a desktop computer, also know as a iMac...... yeah....it's really really needs to be that thin.... cause you spend so much time looking at the back of it, that it throttles under load....

It cannot unless it is much thicker, simple as that. God, why those this crap come up over and over and over.
The reason: physics and the increasing focus on the camera; there was no bump before was because the phone was thicker and the sensor smaller (there is no real choice in this matter).
[doublepost=1503738529][/doublepost]

Actual tests don't show this "destruction"... and the reason the battery is bigger is that IT IS A BIGGER PHONE.
Unless your using the phones in exactly the same way, you can't really judge their battery at all (and that's what reviews do).

Eureka, then make the phone thicker in order to 1) be flush with the camera, 2) to allow for perhaps a larger capacity battery, and 3) to include a phone jack for those who prefer to use wired headphones/speakers (you can still do bluetooth if that's your preference). Then one would get a more functional phone AND not have to buy a case to beef up the current thin form factor. If, as people are saying here, most people buy cases for the super thin phones with protruding cameras, what's the aesthetic reasoning behind the thinness?

My last iPhone is a 6S Plus I purchased about 4 months ago - it offered a performance increase over my previous 6 Plus, it retained a headphone jack, I got a good price on it after the 7/7 Plus was released, and finally - given that Android phones have improved so much the last few years - I get all of those things AND still get good integration with my iMac and iPad. As a matter of fact, given the loss of the phone jack and the $1000+ pricing, the 6S Plus may be my last iPhone. As nearly all the high quality phones, both Apple and Android, have incorporated ultra thin form factors - with consequent sacrificing of potential battery life and flush camera possibilities, as well as the necessity to buy cover protection - the ONLY reason I currently would have for purchasing another iPhone would be for system integration with other Apple products.

Will this model feature an exploding battery?
No, Samsung tried out that as a trial feature on the Note 7, but it really didn't go over very well, so Apple decided to stick with boring old non-explosive batteries. Now, as a rule, both Apple and Android phone manufacturers have settled for removing fireworks as options - at least on their top-of-the-line phones. We'll need to observe how the market will react to such lack of flexible power options. Personally, both my iPhone 6S+ and my LG V20 are so good at what the do I've barely noticed the lack of IED functionality.

Lol seriously? Better than a vertical camera :D
In what conceivable way? The only reason the vertical arrangement looks out of place is because the entire market has always been used to a horizontal arrangement of camera and flash. Once other brands start picking up this new trend it will look normal.....

Awesome - We can all rejoice in Samsung's slightly better camera for what? A couple of weeks? And then the iPhone will get the slightly better camera until the S9 comes out in a few months? Yeah ok...

Funny that when Samsung comes with somthing the iphone allready had (f.e. two camera's ) it's mentioned that Apple allready has that.

Why not mention that Samsung allready uses an Amoled screen in the S5, S6, S7 en S8 (iphone 8 gets it). Why not mention that Samsung allready offers wireless charging in the S5, S6 and S8 (iphone 8 gets it). Why not mention that Samsung allready uses facial recognition in the S7 (iphone 8 gets it).

Apple again is following/copying Samsung? Why not just admit that??

Besides that there is soooooooooooooo much more to compare between these two. What about this? It's not only about the screen or camera.

How dare you? Apple knows best, we consumers can sacrifce 3.5" jack, bigger battery and a whole range of features for a thinner phone. Who needs battery anyway? /s

There is still burn-in, uneven wearing etc. My own preference is LCD. People returning oled tvs really are bad news.

Why not mention it's "already" and not "allready" and "always" - not "allways"? Probably because it really doesn't make a difference. We can sit here and talk about what Apple had first vs. Samsung and vice versa, but it doesn't matter. Apple has never been about adopting the latest & greatest technology just to save that they have it. I think that has been made repeatedly clear here. If you're looking for a solution like Samsung, and it sounds like you are, then you should be happy with your Samsung device and call it good. Posting here is will only draw the wrath of people that are dumbfounded that your obsessed with Samsung devices but posting in threads about iPhones.
