A lot of Apple's "innovation" originated on smart phones by Samsung. Some were there for years before Apple "innovated" them. Samsung certainly copies Apple too (no doubt about that at all) but let's not pretend that only Apple innovates. A simple review of history can show who had what (Apple) innovation first.

Or, most simply, think about what it means when we so very often sling around: "Apple is rarely first, but they wait and get it right." The second part- when true- is certainly great. But the first part implies our collective acknowledgement that Apple is often merely building on the not-quite-perfect-but-earlier innovations of others.

I think you are confusing features with innovation. examples?

I am pretty sure this rumor is identical to an earlier one with a single change of S9 to S10...

God I hate Samsung. Why is no other company pushing to innovate besides Apple? True competition is needed for everyone to benefit.

I’m an Apple fan as much as the rest of you but take off your fanboy glasses for a moment. The only innovative thing about the X is FaceID and the gestures. They’ve been merely catching up to Android phones with thinner bezels and OLED displays. You could say without Android phones the iPhone would’ve remained stale a lot longer. They constantly push each other to do better which is why most flagship smartphones are so good these days.

I think Samsung should call it Galaxy X. :)

But seriously, fanboys, calm down. Facial recognition in various forms was a reality long before Apple implemented it (Windows Hello, for example), this is just what normal progress and healthy competition looks like.

This just in... water is feels wet!

Joking aside; this rumor is stupid. Samsung is obviously interested in facial recognition tech as are other tech companies. And given the S9, you know that brand new phone that was JUST announced, hasn improved FR with IR scanning, it’s assumed Samsung will keep improving that towards something like FaceID. Add to this that analysts, the people who know the future, have said it would take 2 years for Android competitors to create a true FaceID competitor. And guess how many years it will have been when the S10 launches? /shocked

So the S9 gets announced and will be launched soon and somebody wants to get ahead of the rumor train and here we are. Talking about S10 and how it will mimic an Apple tech.

Smh ‍♂️

Even if Samsung does deploy facial recognition on the level of FaceID, it likely won't be as good as FaceID was when it debuted. Meaning, Kuo's prediction will likely be right, about 2 1/2 years until it 'catches up' with FaceID. And by that point FaceID will be even better.

Putting an OLED display or 8 gigs of RAM in a phone is not innovation.

Not shocked by this.. going to throw this out there.. I bet these phones will run.. wait for it.. ANDROID! Now I know that's a stretch guys but hey I'm all about adding features like an OS change.. oh wait, what's that? Same OS on Samsung.. it's not IOS? Gee for a second there I thought it was going to all be the same. :eek:o_O

1. Apple didn't have any problems with putting OLED screen on any other iPhone, if they weren't so damn color inaccurate and neon-like. On 6, 6S, and 7, superior color accuracy of LCD was something that no OLED could match.

2. Thinning bezels. Hmmm, maybe. But has Apple ever rushed to introduce you "cool new things", without making sure that they REALLY work, first? Xiaomi made almost bezel-less phone, and the result was awful call quality. See what you're missing? Apple has a set of rules that they are following for decades, and it is still serving them very well.

They have had it for ages, but it's never been secure or convenient enough to bother with.

Well, if that is the argument... then I think I remember a Lenovo (way before it acquired IBM PC Hardware Business) laptop I bought that came with Windows Vista installed had Face Recognition. And this was back in 2007. As clunky and unreliable it was. But it was there. Just like how Android has had it for ages and Apple only just got it almost right in their first implementation.

Will the S10 or S'X' (if Samsung really wants to copy) include a removable battery and a micro-sd card slot?

I don't know why Samsung feels compelled to copy every move that Apple makes. Back in the day -- yeah, sure. They didn't have a unique selling point, but offering a cheaper iPhone clone guaranteed sales.

Fast-forward to today. Samsung has been leading Apple in hardware design for YEARS -- it was only last year that Apple finally caught up with the iPhone X. Samsung has also been trimming down their *cough* awful *cough* TouchWiz skin (or whatever it's called now). They make a terrific phone. They are no longer in the position to where they have to copy Apple, as the Galaxy S line can entirely stand on it's on. But, they do. Why??

I think you're not recognizing that much of what Apple is leading with isn't just parts/pieces, but under the hood advancements that Samsung and every other smartphone manufacturer has not been able to match. And I can guarantee you that Apple is not looking at what competitors are doing in order to decide what they should offer. They didn't not switch to OLED screens earlier because they were behind the times, but for multiple reasons, from screen quality (color accuracy and longevity) to more so because no manufacturer could supply them with the volume they needed to launch an OLED screened iPhone. The iPhone X isn't innovative just because of FaceID. It's THE fastest, most powerful, smartphone out there - even the latest Samsung can't compete. Heck, even the iPhone 8 and 7 are as powerful, or more powerful, running chips from 2 years ago.

Hmmm, sounds like Samsung is playing a lot of catchup to a company that so many say “can’t innovate.”
According to Mashable Apple was trying to play catchup to Amazon when it decided apparently almost last minute to integrate Siri into the HomePod. I'm not saying Samsung isn't trying to pay catchup here, but it's a given that all of these companies are trying to raise the bar where their core competencies lie and the rest try to keep pace. Which company is ahead depends on different variables. Edit to correct link to Mashable
