How about you rename this site iPhonerumors' and have a little subsection called 'Macrumors' shunted away on a back page somewhere which can be updated, say, once every couple of months or so... (Apple's fault, not yours)

You’re right. The majority of Apple-centric articles from all sources are phone related. Any updates about Macs and Macbooks are to report that nothing is happening and pure speculation.

I was in an Apple Store last night, waiting for my Genuis Bar appointment, and realized that the store was indistinguishable from a cellular provider’s store. Easily, 80 percent of the customers were there to discuss or embellish their phones. The product shelves on the peripheral were loaded with phone accessories or gadgets that can be remote controlled by phones. Meanwhile, a few iMacs sat in one corner of the store unnoticed.

I hated the atmosphere. It was like a bus station. Crowded. Loud. Thirty minute wait for my appointment. And all because of the phone. And then it occurred to me. There should be two distinct Apple stores within a store, physically segregated—one for phone products and another for everything else. In fact, if it wasn’t impractical, I’d like to see a separate store for prosumers and professionals, where the products are used to produce things.

Nice. I'll bet the S8's camera totally dominates the iPhone's. Apple now get pwned every time a competitor releases a smartphone.

How is this competition? All of the features listed have been rumored for the next iPhone. Of course, the consumer has been talking about edge to edge design, wireless charging, etc for years. Don't get me wrong. I am not knocking Samsung for the design but it seems like every vendor is looking at the same "innovations". Like the article described, theres a rush to gain "mainstream appeal of similarly standout features to boost unit sales in a stagnant market short on innovation." The "competition" is for new users or those who don't already have a preference. By now, if you're a Samsung/Android devotee', you're sticking with it or moving to another Android device. If you're an iPhone or an Apple disciple you're sticking with an iPhone.
The problem for Apple and Samsung is that folks are figuring out that you don't need a new phone every one or two years. If a desktop or laptop can last 4-6 years so can a phone. I'm still using my iPhone 6. I will probably upgrade to an 8 but I won't be an early adopter because there are bound to be immediate issues.

Essentially, with the Note disaster, what else does Apple have to contend with this year. I agree if you're a new user, you have options. But more specifically, If Samsung incorporates various features that tempt those who have been wanting to switch, that allows for user to make this decision. Although, I also agree with you about if your a loyalist to one manufacturer or another, then you are likely staying with your preference. Which is what I am with Apple.

Now S8 bomb for apple

What does this even mean?

The data are clear that Apple is getting out of the Mac business and just milking their loyal customers for whatever they can get as they end of life their computer business. They are raising prices to ridiculous levels to maintain margins and then will complain that no one is interested in buying Macs anymore.

Bang on! See footnote.

No bezel and virtual home button with fingerprint reader? Can't wait to upgrade from my S7.

Apple should do a commercial with people's Galaxy Notes exploding. People with Galaxy notes not being allowed to board a plane while someone holding an iPhone walks right by them and shrugs. Lol. Why not? Samsung makes fun of Apple all the time. Fair game.

Not fair game, not at all. Something like this could easily happen to Apple or any other smartphone maker. You don't make fun of stuff like that unless you want it to rain back upon you when it happens to you. Apple doesn't take the low road.

Might work.
Apple would probably only need one employee working there.:p
In fact, based on your assessment from your recent experience it probably wouldn't even need a whole store, just a large kiosk.;)

What would be the point? It'd be empty most of the time. Most audio/video professionals have moved away from apple, so why create a "segregated" space?
PS "separate" may be a better choice of word than "segregated" - or are we proposing "Apple Appartheid" ? ;-)

Well no crap the S8 should have a better camera than the iPhone from this year. It would be newer tech.

apple gets pwned? based on what exactly? certainly not when it comes to people's choice when it comes to buying the products.

Frankly....haven't read all the 7 pages of comments, but I got a good gist of it as well as yesterday's iPhone rumor thread...and I start feeling I'm getting old.

I really don't get all that complaining.

People seriously want to jump ship just because there isn't a new design? How old are you? Is it about the actual device and how would a new design change/improve that? Or is it because you simply want "something new"? Or is it, because you can't show off as no-one instantly would notice you have the latest version?

Bezel-Free? What is it good for? More screen real estate? Is this really so? Can you actually use all that extra space? You gotta hold your phone, somehow...I doubt it magically starts levitating with the next version. So, other than maybe looking cool and futuristic and fancy...what good does it do? What is the actual improvement?

Virtual homebutton (btw I thought the iPhone 7 already had one)...am I the only one who thinks that would be a terrible idea? People need haptics for a reason...think about visually impaired people for example. Again, what is the advantage from a virtual home button that is plane in the screen? Sure, looks cool. But at what cost?

I more and more get the feeling for many (most here?) people it's not so much about innovation itself but about just getting "something - anything really new". And why change something that's already or close to being perfect just for the sake of change?

But again, I may just be getting old...

Samsung likely trying to copy ideas in hurry. It's like other Chinese mobile companies who are trying to copy designs of iPod, iPad, iPhone and iOS interface. Samsung should not copy

Apple could easily rush and beat samsung to the punch, however people who just bought the iPone 7's in September would be furious which is why they stick to every September for new phones. You're going to get a bezelfree iPhone in September I'm sure both companies have been working towards this for awhile this does not mean one is copying another.

SAMSUNG TO OFFER BEZEL FREE DISPLAY PHONE BEATING THE NEXT IPHONE 8

Also in the news today....

RUMOURS THAT APPLE WILL LAUNCH AN IPHONE 7S NEXT YEAR AND NO NEW IPHONE 8........

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Which is it? The news on this site changes every single day.. how can Saumsung beat something that the rumours can decide exists or not?
[doublepost=1481222450][/doublepost]
Apple would have settled on the design of the next iPhone by now. If they are introducing a new form factor next year, there is no way they can copy the design of a product released in march and still make it in time for a September announcement.

People seem to think that copying something is as simply as snapping your fingers.

They can have several designs and not decide on the final one for a while, certainly after the S8 is launched.

Apple has never been about the first, but the best one....waiting for the OLED phone to explode or do crazy things.I bet they will adjust their design to Apple like in 2018.

I mean, people use more 3D touch now than that crazy stupid "air gesture" from Galaxy S5...remember when they mocked iPhone 5? Nobody remembers that anymore.

If Apple rushed to be the first one, no matter the quality, well....thats not the company from Steve Jobs anymore.

Thats why they ALWAYS copy their design 1 year later...wait for Apple to launch a Jet White phone so they can copycat again.

The only thing Apple needs to fix is the stupid iOS 10 that focus more on emojis than produticvity, important stuff.I am still waiting for them to realize change is needed...it will come sometime like iOS 7.

iPad also needs a dedicated OS to stop being a blown up phone. You dont need to turn it to a Computer, but dont make it so idiot when it has a lot of power to replace laptops if the OS is right.

I suppose 'Fire-Charred Black' lost out on the naming committee?

Ultimate me-too brand strikes while the phone's hot, once again...

The greatest part of this thread was using it to filter out the fanboys that I could add to my ignore list :D

I don't pay attention to what other people post.

Click on article ---> type comment ---> post.

Must say something about Samsung if people are all saying the same thing. ;)

actually. Says more about these posters intelligence and critical thinking ability.

they are are purposefully ignorant, or they're "sheep" and repeating a meme because they think it's funny.

either way, they offer nothing to the conversation and are just posting to see their own words up.

I don't know why but this post made me burst out laughing. Goodness knows I've seen some iPhone cases with polka dots and glitter on Amazon. My daughter thought they were the greatest things when she was 8.

I actually don't think in this case Samsung is truly trying to copy Apple. At this point all the manufacturers seem to be moving in unison toward certain changes like removing the physical home button (already done by LG quite some time ago) and reducing bezels and removing the headphone jack (done first by Lenovo? I can't remember but somebody already beat Apple to that).

The removal of the physical buttons was actually a design specification of Android 4.0. Google was trying to push all manufacturers to removing a home button years ago. Samsung just refused because they have ALWAYS has a "home" button. Or at least a main button on the front of their devices (even before smartphones) and Samsung believed it to be part of their "look"

They bring out a shiny, stone-themed-name, black color- "pearl black" - right after their main competitor does, and that isn't a little suspect to you? Yes mr haughty, I'm sure everyone else is the idiot, ba-ha-ha!

They did it once before when the rumours for iPhone 6 with a curved glass display surfaced, but they misinterpreted the rumour, overcooked it and and put a gimmicky display in the curve of the glass too.

What Apple were really working on was this:

iphone-6-top.jpg

And Samsung had produced a phone which looked like it had had a stroke.

samsung-unpacked-galaxy-note-edge-9_2040.0.jpg

the pint of the "edge" in that model wasn't to showcase "curved glass". Curved glass is "easy". This was to showcase the first ever mass produced curved OLED display that could be used in a smartphone. It was a limited release model to gauge reaction to the new screen technology. it just so happened that to give the curved screen emphasis, they curved the glass around it. The nnovation here wasn't "curved glass" but "curved display", and it's a region of the market that nobody else can manage, since Curved displays are samsung's own invention.

That first Note 5 "edge" was a clunky nightmare. And needed a bunch of rivision. But the S7 using the same general concept is considered by many reviewers and users as one of the nicest designed phones on the market. Are the "edge features" gimmicky? sure, probably. But thats not the point. The device LOOKS great and lots of people are adopting it.

So fast forward 2 years from that expiriment and now we have these:

Even with the obvious fact that Samsung is the OEM that minimilizes bezels year after year, the Apple diehards here as well as the OP article still want to believe it's Sammy trying to beat Apple to the punch? Are you shlting me? Lol. Can't help but feel sorry for people when they live in that distortion field. And the Apple followers wonder why Apple keeps selling devices with minimal upgrades with jacked prices. Stop enabling this company with your undying support regardless of the facts. Dang.

Samsung's burning desire to beat Apple to the punch...
This is getting ridiculous coming a day after the rumor saying there's not going to a redesign for the 7s.

why? Samsung is many light years ahead of Apple when it comes to mobile display, or displays in general. Further, Xiaomi already released a bezel-less smartphone that gives us a peek into the future:

[doublepost=1481224926][/doublepost]
Isn't preempting Apple where Samsung got into trouble with the Note 7 and its very combustibly designed batteries?

It wasn't so much that Samsung was pre-emptying anything with the Note 7 -- their S7 already surpassed the 7. It's just that Apple is stagnating under TC.

Based on the buggy disaster that is iOS10 if nothing else I'd say...
But IOS 10 isn't buggy, your experience don't appear to be the norm. Lag is the one problem I have with android. The performance for me simply isn't as good which is a damn shame as it's damn near perfect apart from these issues in terms of the product.
