I'm very curious what Apple's user surveys show. I'm sure if most people use the iPad Pro in landscape, they'll switch the camera. But as we saw in this thread, there are people who use it mostly in portrait. Somebody loses (and wins) no matter which decision Apple makes.

Think about how many people use a keyboard. When doing video do most use portrait or landscape?
Unless an app requires portrait mode, my IPP11 is in landscape. I usually use it with a Magic Keyboard.

I have a 10 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab A from 2019. Also have a refurbished 2019 iPad 10.2 inch.
I can hold the Samsung in portrait mode in one hand. Almost never use in landscape.
iPad is too fat.
I don't like Safari and use Chrome, Firefox or Opera. Love Opera for Android as it word wraps automatically. Safari will wrap if you enlarge the text, but reader mode sometimes does not work. All I get are titles.
Saving bookmarks is a piece of cake with Android browsers. Not so with iPad.
Battery life is better with iPad.
For me, Android is a more stand alone computing OS for me. Can transfer things to my tablet with a cable to my computer. Can't transfer audio to iPad without iTunes. Can't move pictures or video without iCloud.
So it is a matter of OS versus hardware, as someone else suggested. iPad OS is too dependent on another computer. I don't have a Mac. So I'm helpless without installing and logging into iTunes and iCloud for Windows.
I only use iTunes to trans-code audio as it totally rocks for the purpose. Completely insane for Apple to remove the app from the Mac.
Many apps for iPad OS are not as good as Android for me.
I will say, Samsung has made their products very expensive. Got mine for about $250 new.
Kind of looks like a tablet from Lenovo may have to be my next choice.
Yeah, had a bad experience with them already.

16:9 is super awkward for a tablet, Glad apple stuck to 4:3.

But the landscape camera is nice, I do wish Apple had a second camera in the Landscape orientation, with the Magic Keyboard I use my iPad 12.9” in landscape 90% of the time but even with CenterStage the camera being low and off to the side isn't great for video calls. Could just be a camera and FaceID stays in the portrait orientation since it works both ways.
As a digital artist, I looooooove 16:9 (or 16:10). Perfect for keeping palettes and layer stacks open on the side, while maintaining a nice central drawing space. I own a 2018 iPad Pro, but I’m upgrading to a Samsung Tab Ultra (when it gets back in stock).

The extra space is a killer feature for me… as is the massive, glorious size that movies display in.

This is a really tired argument. Android isn’t a problem anymore. If you have any experience with some of the latest android devices, you’d know that it’s actually pretty fluid and secure. The only gripe that someone might raise, it’s just it doesn’t match the longevity of software updates that Apple does.

But just because it’s ‘Android’, doesn’t make it less any other desirable to the consumer. It really comes down to choice of platform of what somebody prefers.
FWIW, we won't hear people disparaging iOS as much, but outside of this MR, you do get quite a few "that phone looks great, but, it's an iPhone".

That said, people are going about as if Apple opened that up to licensing, people would be lining up to buy Samsung tablets running iOS.

Google employees will probably enjoy looking at your daily activities and keyboard clicks on that device

I wish I knew the answer to how many use a keyboard. My wife uses a keyboard on her iPad Pro but takes it out of the case and uses it in close-up portrait mode when FaceTiming someone. It seems some people like to have the tablet up close rather than sitting on a table. Also not everyone wants to pay for a $349 keyboard or the cheaper alternative. Maybe the only solution is for Apple to put two cameras on the tablet, one in portrait, one in landscape. That would make everybody happy, but it might raise the cost. I'd be all for that solution!

If you use an iPad constantly in widescreen with keyboard, why not just get an Macbook Air?

I used to use the iPad in vertical position to browse the internet all the time and it was great until they moved from 9.7 to ridiculous 10.2 and not it feels like a small TV in the palm of your hands vertically.

True. iOS is my preferred platform, but I could nitpick hard on all its faults. The tired/exhausted argument of ‘Android is a problem’ doesn’t fly anymore. Those who refute that, will never be objective, they prefer to be closed minded, because they don’t know how to be open otherwise with no direct experience.

I use DuckDuckGo as my default search engine. Have for years. I sometimes have no choice but to use Chrome on my iPad. I don't feel unsafe on my Android tablet or safer on an iPad.
I also use Malwarebytes for Android.
Apple has my address and phone number. No choice. Forced into it when creating my Apple account for my old Mac.
Google has none of my personal information.
I think you should worry more about social media.

The arguably bigger issue is the ratio. Why on earth would you make it 16:9?
It's not much better, but the S8 Ultra is 16:10. I find 3:2 trip be a good compromise between 16:10 and 4:3. This error keep propagating from one previous post.

Portrait split screen on the S8 is pretty nice. It maximizes the available area for both apps. I usually use it for watching a football game or something while browsing the web on the bottom.

I think I messed up the LED panel types - microLED would be the place Apple want to get to in the near future, and I apparently made up nanoLED ?

OLED is great, but it's just a pit stop to microLED. The next few years are going to be amazing for display technologies. :)
I believe MicroLED is still some time away. The next step is QD-OLED from Samsung Display. This is already used on the new Sony flagship TV.

Touchscreen.
My MBP is the ONLY device I have without a touchscreen. Now if that MBA had a touchscreen .... ;)

OLED and landscape camera.

2 things Apple ought to be building into an iPad Pro right now, but probably won't for another year or more.

I'll be looking at this device as I have not found a decent Android tablet.
While not a real big fan of Samsung, this looks like the best Android tablet currently available. But will it replace my IPP11 is the question.

Yeah, I was shocked anyone said they use it in portrait mode. Especially the 12.9. I've never seen someone do that. Also, every single bit of marketing material Apple has used for years mostly shows people holding them landscape. Every keyboard accessory and cover stand work in landscape. I just find it odd that landscape wouldn't be the primary use mode for everyone.

People arguing the 4x3 vs 16x9 is better on a tablet need to have their head examined ... the 4x3 is sooooo dated, and just makes very little sense for media consumption and productivity (which is what most use these size tablets for anyway).

To me, it looks like Samsung took the old criticism of “an iPad is just a big iPhone” too far.

The dimensions are just so off-balanced.
