It’s pretty far behind on single core tasks, according to benchmarks. How Apple can parlay that into a lead in the next mobile computing product is up to them, but it’s ahead. Apple’s neural engine is also ahead, by quite a bit.

Apple also makes an A12X which is even faster.
Oh yes but the the Exynos has a similar single core score to the A12. My point is they are both fast chips, and the difference is not as wide as some people make it out to be. How they use the power is more relevant and Android is certainly using the power better.

The s10e uses the same chipset as the s10, I'm not sure what your point is here. Not to mention the s10e has a 1080p OLED screen.
Android phones are just as expensive, that’s the point. There is really no Apple premium in flagships anymore either.

Whatever premium is there, is worth it for iOS.

Both great phones, ultimately just comes down to OS preference. Hardware is so good today, software and services are really going the key difference. For me, I look for the best overall combination of performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, apps, and support. Apple currently gets my money, but that could of course change.

Really? That could change?

Not any time soon Lol. Most likely, never.

Apple is sooo far ahead when it comes to support, ecosystem, privacy etc. They’re in a league of their own really.

These are some good looking hardware. It will be a killer deal if Samsung commits to 4-5 years of Android updates to match Apple.
Why should Samsung do that? Look at the Android forum and many S9 users are upgrading to the S10, so that means the average Galaxy S users only keep their phone for a year, two years max. Meanwhile they keep willingly pay ~$1k in a yearly basis. Next year, people will be buying the S11 anyway, so the update issue is a non-issue.

Yes, Apple has the advantage of highly optimizing their Ax chip with their hardware. However, even though I’m an Apple user, I have to admit that the Snapdragon 855 is a big deal. Compared to previous Snapdragons, the 855 improvement over the 845 is quite huge, even bigger than the 845 over the 835. So in raw performance wise, the SD855 is a big deal, and is just a step away from matching the A12. And with Xiaomi selling an SD855 phone for just ~€500, it is a flagship market disruptor.

Of course, we will see A13 pulling another lead, but we cannot deny that hardware performance wise, we are at near parity.

I actually recently looked into it myself with the S10e, but it would just be way too much work for what it’s worth. I don’t really have any reasons to make the switch, as all my Apple gear works so well, but I think I was just itching to try something new. I think if Apple added a bunch of customization options, it would help with that.
I have an s9 you can have. It’s sitting unused while I use my XS Max

The juice is not worth the squeeze when it comes to switching. iCloud Keychain for 200 password. iCloud Drive. iMessage, continuity with Mac, polished apps, my data feels more secure with apple (even if it’s not. I trust apple with my data and privacy and security when using apps.

Android feels like leaving the front door unlocked for anyone to come in and rifle through my things

I tried to go back to android. But ‍♂️

Geez, this thread has gotten quite intense. Both sides have good stuff and bad stuff. People fall for fallacies and marketing terms on both sides too. iOS is good for some and bad for others. Samsung makes quality phones. So does Apple.

let me know how much the shipping is for the S9. I appreciate it.

Comments like these humor me ALWAYS! As an iPhone user myself I have to ask what security risk are there associated with Google/Android platform? Celebrities iCloud get hacked into daily and their private pics are plastered all over the net. FaceTime just had a very intrusive flaw exposed recently. Just say you don't like Android and it will be more respected.
Okay, since we are in sniping mode, let’s not forget that the galaxy was recently randomly sending photos to random contacts, without the owners permission.

I really hope Apple doesn’t copy Samsung on at least one of those things. I can see the phone-to-phone charging feature being quite an annoyance in the future if it becomes a widespread thing:

Friend/Random Person: “Ugh, my phone just died.”

Me: *awkwardly looks away and avoids eye contact with friend/random person*

Friend/Random Person: “Can I use your phone to charge mine?“

Me: “Uhhh... I guess...”

I really hope this doesn’t become a common occurrence. I wouldn’t buy an S10 just cuz I’d be worried about this happening all the time haha

Are we really arguing about the iphone built to compete with the Galaxy S9 v. The phone built to compete with ios13 and iPhone XI I mean please help me understand... this is stupid... trust me Apple is well aware of this device and will compete against it wholeheartedly

I think you are being obtuse on purpose. If English is not your first language, and it isn't for many here, I will be glad to try and clear up any confusion you may have about the fact that if one breaks the curved glass on this phone, it is an added expense on top of the purchase price.
if you break the glass on any phone, it's an added expense.

i'm not sure what point you're trying to make?

Here's the thing. No one wants to steal an iPhone X, compared to a Samsung phone. Second, Apple went overboard by making FaceID TOO secure. Samsung got the balance right. No one needs that much security to justify that ugly camera housing. Just look at how Samsung was able to minimize the chin. THAT is engineering chops Apple doesn't have. Fact.
Um... you still have a chin... iPhone X doesn’t and the notch will shrink if not completely disappear.

Or that with Android you can install apps that can increase padding between apps, increase or decrease icon size, change icons, etc. The list is endless.

Samsung has had face unlock for years.
Samsung had ****** barely working unsecure “face locking” and please let me get excited about being able to shrink or magnify icons lol

Charging $45 for a clear plastic case (iPhone Xr) which costs no more than a few pennies to make, shows a big fat middle finger Apple is holding up to their (loyal!) customers.
And of course there are dozens more of this big fat middle finger examples with Apple

And then there's the company that collects your data, making profiles of it and selling it.

I am going to cancel my S10 pre order, sell my current XS and going back to my good ol' Nokia 3310.

Samsung has impressive technology and is easier on the wallet, but damn I hate their OS. I have a S9 for work and in terms of the OS, it just can't compare to iOS. More options, but that's probably why it's harder to get around.

Also, battery on Samsung is not great, especially with location services on 24/7.

Apple’s lead in silicon is probably not going to be as apparent until the next frontier in mobile computing, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth doing. The chips are more powerful, but launching individual web based apps isn’t really what differentiates them.

For now, the benefits are more future proofing and come from the longevity of the phone, being more usable over time, overall smoothness of operation, consistency, stability, etc.

Apple’s chips are clearly advancing faster than the current use case calls for, but you can’t just jump to where you need to be when that time comes.

Apple kills the idea of future proofing its phones by putting in the minimum amount of RAM they can currently get away with.
