"After all these years, it's finally here".

Are they actually claiming first to market?

They will probably also claim, that if Apple does release its iWatch (or whatever they end up calling it), that Apple copied them. If and when Apple does release the iWatch the Gear Watch will even look worse in comparison. Even the iPod nano is more elegant in design and functionality then the Gear Watch. And isn't the Gear Watch essentially a iPod nano if you don't carry your Note 3 with you.

And when/if Apple releases an iWatch critics will claim Apple is copying Samsung, Apple didn't invent the wrist-computer-device category, Apple can't innovate as it is not much different than an older iPod nano on a wrist strap...

The entire world has gone crazy.

And iFans will point out that Apple had never been about being first, but being best. Which is why you can find something 'older' for pretty much everything Apple has done.

Well outside of a 64 bit processor and separate motion processing chip in a smart phone. Apple might be first on that one.

Plus Samsung's commercial makes no sense unless all those characters in the movie clips were also carrying a smart phone.

Do we have a release date yet for this 'gear'

At least with Apple we had a month at that point, I don't recall Samsung even saying if this would be out this year.

The impression I get from that ad is that the Galaxy Gear Watch is doing everything they show in the ad without the need of a Note 3 or compatible Samsung cell phone. The ad gives a false impression of the true capabilities of the product.

Neither, I think. As someone who works in advertising, I can't tell you how many times an idea — or in this case, commercial — is put into motion, only to realize down the line that it was already done by someone else. By that point, it's too late to reverse course, so you just push it out the door. I'm assuming SOMEONE raised a red flag about this at some point or another.

That ad is old enough and talked about enough that if you don't know it you probably shouldn't be in advertising. It's probably even talked about in class work.

Who the hell would wear a digital samsung watch?

I wear fine swiss mechanical watches like Rolex, Panerai, Oris, Omega, etc, not a chinese plastic toy...

Personally I like this (ad) better anyway

Heh. Samsung should've made theirs look like that Star Trek wrist communicator. Probably would sell a lot more of them.

Some of the Samsung Notes, along with the Moto X, already had motion processing chips.

Of COURSE any Apple iWatch that they put out a year after this Samsung Gear release is going to be better than this, primarily because a YEAR has passed. Apple is using that year to see the mistakes others have made and looking at what the market seems to want and with another year of accelerated miniturization will make something much better. Of course, by that time EVERYBODY, including Samsung, will make something much better. But at least Samsung has a product NOW that has some niche market. Comparing an existing product to something that nobody know a single thing about is ridiculous.

Plus, I do like the ad if not so much the watch. :) Take a look at the upcoming Omate's or A.I. Smartwatch. Those are cooler.

Given how bad the first generation of this product is and how expensive it is, not a whole hell of lot people.

The watch band is made of plastic and the body is made of metal which is not very comfortable to wear from what I have read. For $300 you would have thought it would at least include a leather wrist strap.

Anyone excited about these i watches at all?

if this can't replace my phone not sure why I would need one at this point.

I was shopping at newegg earlier today and it had a mini ad for Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Watch, then it switched to a poll: How likely are you to buy the watch in the next 3 months?

Not kidding, over 80% of responses were 'never'

Yikes!

The ads, which have received positive feedback from critics, pay homage to the first ads from another revolutionary device: the iPhone.

LMAO. I just don't see the similarity. Is Ford paying homage to GM in it's car ads as they're all the same: mum, dad, cute kids having lots of fun while driving. Not everything Samsung does relates back to Apple.

I suspect like most people on here I'm going to pass on the Galaxy Gear and wait to see what Apple comes up with. The Gear looks too bulky and heavy.

Something to keep in mind

There is no Apple iWatch.

And if Apple released a wearable electronic - there's no guarantee it will be a "watch" vs something more like Nike's Fuelband.

And if they do come out with a watch - they will not be the first nor the last.

Just like anything else - use whatever device works best for you.

The basic idea itself would be quite nice (if it wasn't copied, of course), but the way how Samsung actualized it is really boring. It's at least two times as long as it should be, it's neither particularly cute, nor entertaining. Typical tasteless way of doing things by Samsung.

Jeez it's a slow news day today. C'mon Apple announce the date for the date when we get to hear the date the Mac Pro and updated MBP get released. That would cheer me up :D

Apple bites others styles too..

For those saying 'copy copy' - you definitely need to see this video artwork from Cristian Marclay who created a similar idea 12 years earlier!

Sure it's slower than a 30 second commercial ad.. but give it time and you'll be amazed.

Not to mention one of his latest works Clock - is a 24 hour montage of film footage where that exact time is shown on the clock, run in realtime during a day...

also not 30 second commercial ready.. but he's definitely from the advertising/technological future!

This whole Samsung stunt is basically the same as someone that is posting the first post in a forum thread and claims he´s first. However, it´s totally meaningless if there´s no substance to it. The only real thing you accomplish with that is that you make a fool out of yourself.

Being in Samsung´s position is hard if you always follow in the footsteps of your big brother. So when you actually get ahold of some information that your big brother wants to buy a new car, but his income currently doesn´t allow it, you just buy a car for the sake of buying a car to be first.

It´s like 5 years olds play with 5 year olds.

Samsung has stolen nothing. So far iWatch is vaporware, musings from a company that seems to be dabbling in wearable computing devices, but has released no details about iWatch.

You can't steal something that doesn't exist.

They're talking about the commercial not the product
