They should put the camera behind the screen and when you take a picture the pixels just go transparent.

What is with all this concern over such trivial things like hole punches and notches? Are they of such importance that people would get so upset about them? Come one folks, these are nth degree first world problems. It's just a #$%@ phone.

I guess there’s no point in having the MacRumors forums since it’s all just first world stuff.

If you want wrongdoers to have a better chance of capturing your personal information, buy an Android phone.

If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding. See? I can make comments that don't apply to this topic, too!

Eh, still not feeling the corners and the different chins. It would look better if there was a uniform thin bezel all the way around. In terms of the hole punch, it’s the same as the notch, which is no big deal, but I’m not sure I prefer it. I’d rather have Face ID and if that’s the case, Apple would need 3 hole punches. Could look okay, but software wise it’s the same. Overall, this feels the same as the S8 and S9. It’s all about software now and Android hasn’t done anything innovative in years. Not to say Apple has either, it’s just that that’s usually the counter. I’m not very excited about phone hardware anymore, both Apple and Samsung/Google need to innovate more when it comes to software.

If Apple were to produce a phone that looked like this both the press, Joe public and tech enthusiasts alike would slate the overall design as smacking of desperation, and would simply view it as a last ditch attempt to reinvigorate the company's perceived loss of innovation.

Whilst Apple is by no means perfect, the phrase 'Becoming a victim of your own success' springs to mind when considering Apple's apparent design conundrum, particularly when such little criticism is levelled at a world leading company like Samsung against the backdrop of what is a botched attempt at bezel-less design.

Phone seems kind of ugly to me. And Android. Naw, that's a hard no. I'll stick with my beautiful XS Max. Best phone I've ever owned.

Is there some mass selective amnesia I missing out on ?

I seem to recall the iPhone X has 3 different bezel sizes with a notch and an asymmetric rear camera

May be I have the wrong goggles on :D

maybe Apple will be the first to figure out how to make a true edge to edge display with no notch. It’ll certainly set them apart from this new ridiculous punch hole thing.

Go to gsmarena. There's already a few phone that had been released that's truly edge to edge without the notch or punch hole.

Looks pretty good to me , I’ll assume that eventually there will be some way to conceal Face ID and integrate it in a similar way as the camera. Then Apple will go the same route, ultimately working towards the full front display

Well there we have it then.

iPhone XI

I’m sorry, but not a single one of those is an edge to edge display with a front facing camera in the display, which is what’s being talked about. Three of those phones have a sliding camera that comes up from the back and one of them doesn’t have a front facing camera at all. So again ... we’re still waiting on someone to make an edge to edge display with a camera built in that doesn’t require a hole or a notch. Yes, those have an edge to edge display with a workaround for a front facing camera because they haven’t figured out how to do it with it built into the display.

Keep waiting then but bet you Apple won't be the first to release it.

For most people phones and computers are a necessity in this day and age, so I'll grant MacRumors license to exist. ;) But I just don't get all the angst about notches. Do they really bother people that much?

It does bother people. Hence the countless threads on this topic.
