The S10 is a 6.11 inch display device. Here's an exclusive from ice universe comparing the screen size of the S10 (6.11) with S8 (5.8) , Note9 (6.4), S9+ (6.2) , and a Find X (6.4). Absolutely amazing.

What's wrong with the bezel on the bottom? It's smaller or the same as the one on the iPX Max.

Perfect example why the punch hole absolutely kills the notch for a more immersive experience. The notch already looks old and more of entry level device design feature.

That's not an iPhone XS Max, below is an actual iPhone Xs Max

The phone on the left isn’t an iPhone. The notch isn’t great but at least with iPhone we know why it exists. When I find hilarious is all the hot takes that Apple’s problems in China are because they are being out-designed by Chinese competitors....the competitors all copying the notch...that is supposedly a terrible design decision.

This off-center punch hole is stupid. There’s nothing immersive about seeing a little camera hole on the side of the screen. Last year everyone said Samsung did it best with the small top and bottom bezel. Now the punch hole kills the notch? LMAO.

Yeah I get that. Apple could definitely improve on the software side, though. I wouldn’t mind them copying some Android features.
And yet if Apple released a new phone with amazing new software features but the physical device looked like the XS the tech crowd would say it’s boring.

What concerns me about this: Every company will place their punch hole a bit different. Some will be centered, some left, some right. What about developers who have to take this into account? Android land gets less interesting by the day...

iOS has become stagnant and could really use something new.

Didn't say, or mean to imply it's an iPX Max. Thought it would be obvious that it's a Mate 20Pro. Nonetheless, my point was, a punch hole display with such a tiny bezel on top, and a bezel on the bottom the size of the iPX Max or possibly less, translates to a more immersive experience.

Dont like the hole on the right, should be on the left.
Don't know for sure why, but I feel the same. Could be because we read from left to right, Korean might be 'ambidextrous' in that regard if I understand this excerpt from Wikipedia correctly:

Right-to-left can also refer to top-to-bottom, right-to-left (TB-RL or TBRL) scripts such as Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, though they are also commonly written left to right.

Symmetry is not a rule in good design.
It's far from mandatory but it usually is better than slight asymmetry (although in some situations slight asymmetry can be better).

I like their current infinity display better. I guess you just get used to the design with regular use.

The Note 9, S9 designs are fine. So this is yet another phone I will have to bypass until these companies knock off these awful design choices. (Notches, cut-outs etc...) Currently on the Note 8 and can at least still get the Note 9 in the future. Just keep the bezels until they can figure out a better design.

I really did think that the current Galaxy S design with thin, symmetric top and bottom bezels were the best form we have currently. No notch. No asymmetrical bezels. The only thing I did not like was the curved side display.

This cutout and unequal top and bottom bezels is literally the worst of all options.

This "chin" that so many are commenting about doesn't look any larger than the bottom bezel on the XR. It's just because it isn't uniform around the whole device that it stands out more. Of course if it as uniform all around, people would be moaning about the "huge" bezels. People need a reality check. You can't have a completely bezel-less phone. I bet for all the people that buy this phone they won't even notice the bezel sizes after a day or 2 of use, much like the notch on the iPhones.

I usually like Samsung products and designs but this looks much worse than the notch.
no question about it.

Irrespective of my own views I can tell you one thing with 100% certainty.

If Apple had a small camera cut-out in one corner of the latest iPhone's, and Samsung had the large notch.
99.9% of Apple supporters here would be saying how ugly, stupid, intrusive and total abomination Samsung s notch was compared to Apples single small camera hole.

I wonder the first phone with dual displays. The front can be totally clean, 100% screen, the back side could be like half a display, so you can do selfies. Then you only need higher res camera on back no need for front camera.

This isn't a bad idea prima facie... especially if the phone doesn't get too bulky because of it. FoD on the font perhaps for unlocking.

check out the nubia x. wouldnt expect apple fans to know about other phones haha.

Those are just renders, final product might look different, but I agree, they didn't manage to even center the charging port for almost a decade, let alone other things.

With notch, you at least know where is the inactive area of the screen, there where it bothers you the least. Imagine this hole with video playback, apps and games, it can stand where it annoys you the most.
I would have thought the hole completely disappears with video playback especially movies on widescreen because of the letterboxing. For the games most of the time the way we hold our phone the lower part of the thumb naturally covers the hole. If people manage to forget about the notch then I would assume this would be the same.

Samsung lately seems to get the right ideas but fail at the first implementation. They had a great idea extending the display from S7 to S8 but when moving the FP sensor to the back placed it in the wrong place.
The S9 sorted it out and considering current technology is the best (in my opinion) hardware design for as large as possible screens, no notch, SD card, jack, water proof, FP sensor, best OLED screen in business, etc...
S11 should follow the same pattern. If I was in the Samsung phone buying business I would wait this one out.

Samsung hasn't actually been "competitive" with Apple from a sales perspective since the iPhone 4/iPhone 4s era.

I’ve never understood how people can hate the notch so much but be so okay with an off-centre hole. I stopped noticing the notch after about a day of using my X because stuff blends in around it. This is so far in the corner that you can’t do any UI work around it, it’s just gonna sit there being asymmetrical and ugly.

Just for the record, will that be the same word you use to describe an iPhone with the same design?

Short answer: Yes

Long answer, I just don't like the overall design of Samsung, especially the back sides, and then there's this huge name on the phone itself, I don't like (name) branding on almost everything, Logos are ok and much better recognisable.
If "Apple" was on the iPhone instead of the logo I would certainly dislike them more.
Apple's design is IMHO far better than Samsung, there are other mobile phone brands which do a much better job than Samsung.
