I don't expect it to make toast for me but we've reached the point where phones are now like TV sets aka as a mature market. Therefore the "innovation" people crying out for is going to be less than what is used to be.
Yeah I get that. Apple could definitely improve on the software side, though. I wouldn’t mind them copying some Android features.

I was one of those people who mocked the iPhone X notch and found it quiet ugly. I am now one of those people who almost never notices the notch when looking at my iPhone X.

I am on the Hole Punch is ugly bandwagon but like the iPhone X, things may changed when viewed in person.

I’m the one who got the 8+ instead of the X and was mocking the notch.

Now I have a XS Max and I’m still mocking the notch. It’s FUGLY.

Is it me or phones are boring these days? I feel the wow factor has gone from phones.

Without a doubt. I think the main issue that any company involved in the manufacture of smart phones has is that, for most people, they're entertainment devices. Even for users that involve an element of business, their phone is still normally an entertainment device by majority. And, even worse, it is viewed by many as the most important or number one device that they own. We all know of 'phone zombies' and people who would quite literally burst into tears if you removed their phone for a week. What other device promotes such a reaction? Laptops, PC's, tablets and other similar devices don't quite achieve that. Further weight is added to that fact by the latest 'bendgate' issue with the new iPad Pro. If it were a smart phone, Apple would have caved into extreme pressure by now to remedy the situation. Instead, the world media and general population seem to have quickly forgotten, haven't heard of or don't even care about this problem.

The issue with the above is that it produces a zombie like market where company after company produces the same thing in an attempt to satisfy the constant incessant demand by the consumer who sees their phone as their number one device. When the period of rapid innovation in any sector inevitably slows, people normally settle into and accept that technology as the new norm and, if something else even better replaces it, great. However, people have come to consider their smart phone to be so important that they can't see outside the box and expect that it will do everything from making their breakfast to filling their car. As a result, the majority of the population now have a 'wanting your cake and eating it' syndrome, whereby they simultaneously want to be wowed by their number one purchase, but yet get bored when that required innovation is so rapid that the technology and demand for something else can't keep pace.

I am only annoyed by the notch when I want to enjoy widescreen video that uses the whole display. I wish I could use that feature without being annoyed. My preference would have been for them to do something like the hole punch and use in-display Touch ID. I still prefer that in most situations to a glitch-prone facial scan that doesn’t work when I try to unlock my phone on my desk. Result? I don’t use my iPhone as much, which is annoying.

Here is a crazy idea: Make a rectangle phone with a rounded display and put the cameras and scanners in the corners.

Personally I wish I could custom order an iPhone without a front facing camera because I don’t really use it. I make FaceTime calls on my iPad and rarely take a selfie. I actually got kinda used to doing selfies on the back camera since the front camera on the iPhone was so bad for so long so I could still do that. Nowadays I only do them occasionally with my kids.

I can deal with with the hole not in the center, but it doesn't even follow the curve of the display in the corner.

Those holes look much worse than notches, when just one one side it destroys symmetry and all humans are programmed biologically to like symmetry

Yea I don't know! I am on the fence. I think it's ugly, but it's a different approach. would have to use it for a bit, but I THINK i like it better than the notch.

So when you’re using this (or any of these cutout design phones) for videoconferencing, the camera is off center. If you’re also, say, viewing other participants on the screen, doesn’t that make your image appear as if you’re staring off into space? Seems like you really want the camera to be as centrally located as possible.

On the iPhone it's either the notch or a forehead... I'll take the notch. However, if Apple were to go the holey route, they would either have to consolidate the notch hosted technologies for a large hole like the S10+ or wind up with 4 individual holes! Since FaceID doesn't appear to be going anywhere, Apple's notch reduction/elimination strategy requires more work than Samsung.

I've owned the S7. S8+ and S9+ and have loved all 3 and will get the S10+ but i agree with most people, i would prefer a small bezel then a cutout or notch. The cutout should have been centred and the bezels more symmetrical.

To make it perfectly symmetrical, Samsung should put the hole in the dead center of the screen.
I would love to see the punchout in the middle
Apple should do the same for the cameras on the back on the iPhone. Cameras should be symmetrical.

If these renders are what it will look like, it will still have a chin. And can someone explain why is called infinity if I could see the frame around?

It won't look right, because of the logo.
Unless they do it horizontally.

Horizontal should work....

I almost nearly want this phone if it wasn't for the bezel on the bottom. Nice try Samsung, nice try.

Those are just renders, final product might look different, but I agree, they didn't manage to even center the charging port for almost a decade, let alone other things.

With notch, you at least know where is the inactive area of the screen, there where it bothers you the least. Imagine this hole with video playback, apps and games, it can stand where it annoys you the most.

There is a real photo too, this design looks final.

I wonder the first phone with dual displays. The front can be totally clean, 100% screen, the back side could be like half a display, so you can do selfies. Then you only need higher res camera on back no need for front camera.

Here's one

Cannot Wait!!!
The S10 is a 6.11 inch display device. Here's an exclusive from ice universe comparing the screen size of the S10 (6.11) with S8 (5.8) , Note9 (6.4), S9+ (6.2) , and a Find X (6.4). Absolutely amazing.

What's wrong with the bezel on the bottom? It's smaller or the same as the one on the iPX Max.

Perfect example why the punch hole absolutely kills the notch for a more immersive experience. The notch already looks old and more of entry level device design feature.
