Neither the notch nor the hole bothers me. Whatever.
I’m just glad to get rid of that huge chin and fore forehead on iPhones.

Samsung basically abandons any hope of decent and secure face recognition, that's innovation? As the punched hole is just a front facing camera. It does not bother me and they have their own look now. But I would not want to go back to touching the phone to unlock. The bottom chin is still there, a little smaller. Details like the screen curves in corners do not match the phone shape. It just seems a little compromised and gimmicky.

Samsung is implementing an in display ultrasound fingerprint reader which is much better (quicker and more efficient) than a face scanner....thanks. Otherwise use the iris scanner if something scanning some part of your face makes you feel more secure.

Quicker or more efficient? That remains to be seen and yes Face ID is more secure than Samsung's iris scanner many tests have proven so. It is also slower than Face ID and has a much narrower sweet spot for the unlock. In low light situations it is also inferior. Given all of that I would not use the iris scanner at all. Samsung does make nice hardware, unfortunately for me it is not a plus or a reason to switch. It would be a 1/2 step backwards with a nicer implementation.

Dont like the hole on the right, should be on the left.

If for some reason the hole couldn't be placed in the middle – a position that makes most sense for design symmetry – then the right side is a good choice. Sorry, lefties, most folks are right handed and hold the phone with the left hand. The right side camera hole places the camera closer to your line of sight than a left sided placement like the Huawei and can make for easier selfies and video calls. In landscape mode, though, it's a toss up. My 2 cents, anyways.

Samsung are now implementing under screen fingerprint scanner.
If recall correctly, it is ultrasonic and gives a 3D profile of the finger print. And less affected by moist fingers.

You still have to remove the notch. The all iPhones will look dated again after MWC in Barcelona. All the top models from manufacturers are coming with all screen OLED and better specs than Apples iPhone. On top of that they will be cheaper than an iPhone XR. And Cook is blaming the trade war with China:rolleyes:

Proof how far he’s gone from reality

Lol at “better specs”.
Just like when comparing 2 sports cars, the most important piece would be the engines. When comparing 2 high performance mobile computers (or any computers, really), the most important spec would be the processor.
Saying an Android phone specs higher, to me comes across like a guy with a flashy car saying “Yeah, your car has more horsepower, more torque, higher top speed, faster 1/4 mile, & faster 0-60... but have you seen my paint job, door handles, and windshield? They are FAR superior! I clearly have a higher specced car than you”.

I wonder the first phone with dual displays. The front can be totally clean, 100% screen, the back side could be like half a display, so you can do selfies. Then you only need higher res camera on back no need for front camera.
That sounds like a very fragile device. I suppose cases could have a cut out for the back screen.

There are many more factors than just engine, handling, suspension, and braking are at least as important. But for now, Apple's phone chips are impressively on top with regards to performance. They are innovating in that arena.

That is all well and good as I understand Samsung's fingerprint scanner from the get go. I just think it is a compromise because Samsung could not pull off the Face ID tech as well as Apple did. I do not want to go back to a fingerprint scanner. There are few and far between times my Xs has any delay, it does on rare occasions when the light is low have a slight delay. But it still works and is a non issue. Some do not like facial recognition and want a fingerprint scanner. I get that. For my needs and tastes it is better to use Face ID. It's just preference. Iris recognition on Samsung phones unless drastically improved on the S10 are just not as good, fast or as secure. I do think Samsung has come a long way with current materials and finish worthy of a flagship phone, but they should at least give an option for facial recognition equal to the current iPhones or it would be a non starter for me and many others.

Under screen fingerprint sensor has been the desire of Samsung for some time. Initially they were to (according to rumours) have it in the S8 and then Note 8, but it was not ready. That was the probable reason for the relocated fingerprint sensor initially having to be placed so close to the camera.
As I understand it, there is no Iris Scanner in S10 as they now have their "holy grail" authentication.
If you think Samsung should have improved Facial Recognition as well as Fingerprint sensor in the S10, do you think Apple should go the same in their next generation phones?
Btw, I am no Samsung fan boy. I haven't had a Samsung phone since the S2 :)

Anyone that is saying Face ID is better than fp, is only saying it because they have no other choice. Lol. There's not a doubt in my mind, Apple will eventually follow with using an under display ultrasonic fp reader. Nothing more convenient.

As someone who wears prescription sunglasses and regular glasses and also drives occasionally without them, Face ID has a pretty difficult time unlocking while I'm driving. The solution has been to disable the display from sleeping so that I don't have to bother with Face ID while driving, but I don't always want the display on the whole time. At the very least, I wish Apple would copy one of Android's features that keeps the phone unlocked in specific locations ... such as when it's connected to the car via Bluetooth. It got frustrating enough that I downgraded to an iPhone with a home button.

Why are you using your phone while driving?

Smart Unlock with car's Bluetooth is an absolutely fantastic feature, especially if you want to interact with your phone's Google Assistant without having to touch or look at the phone.

LOL, I am not a Samsung hater either, I have a lot friends that swear by them. Not one uses the iris scanner and more than one admitted to me it is a gimmick and half baked at best. As for Apple they never go back to a previous technology so it would take a miracle for them to do so. They really don't have to as Face ID works as expected and was adopted by a majority of people upgrading. They also refined the tech in the Xs, Xr series. It is more accurate and faster than the X. I purchased a new iPad Pro for my better half over the holidays and it seems even better being able to use it in landscape or portrait mode. Apple also worked on the in screen technology and even patented it. They made the decision to eliminate it. It would most likely be better if they had both and gave a choice. But that is very un Apple. I've heard conflicting rumors on S10 having iris scanning and some that say it's eliminated. If it is eliminated they just threw in the towel. Samsung in flagship sales are way behind, so giving both as a way to increase the deficits and attract people who want fingerprint scanners could a better strategy for them.

Maps and music ... and occasionally answering calls if it's an emergency. Why are you asking a silly question?

Edit: wrong post
[doublepost=1546633960][/doublepost]
Because it’s illegal. Not exactly a silly question is it.
I answer all calls that I receive whilst driving when I hear the individual ringtones for family and friends using the built in hands free system. No need to divert eyes from road. Explain how this is illegal in UK?
Is this illegal in other countries?

Are you using an X or an Xs? I do the same with multiple pairs of glasses and have not had that issue whatsoever but am using a Xs.

Retaining Iris Scanner would require a larger or more holes in the screen. Assuming the hole is happening. I don't see it as "throwing in the towel" . Iris scanner gave a secure option to people who didn't like the rear fingerprint sensor. This option is no longer required.

Same. It isn’t illegal. But pulling up your phone so Face ID has to scan your face is. That’s what the other poster was saying.

The Note 9, S9 designs are fine. So this is yet another phone I will have to bypass until these companies knock off these awful design choices. (Notches, cut-outs etc...) Currently on the Note 8 and can at least still get the Note 9 in the future. Just keep the bezels until they can figure out a better design.

Im waiting till 2020,,...at this point the Note 9 design is perfect at least for now until all those cameras can be hidden behind the display and not interfering with my full display. Hopefully the Note 11 will have this or even their foldable technology if the foldable technology gets s pen support on its 2nd generation version in 2020 as well.

One thing....Samsung unlike Apple does not mind listening and implementing features we would like so 2020 should be a good year for upgrading unlike this year (after they get their complaints on the punch hole) which is fine for some people who hate the notch.

Its quicker because its using ultrasound technology unlike the other in display fingerprint readers and also due to that..... more secure. The exact reason why samsung waited till this year to implement this was due to security issues with the none ultra sound versions and yes the iris scanner is slower but my trusty fingerprint reader on the note 9 is super fast (faster than face id for sure) so no need for me to even use it (nice to have multiple options to access my device though...something many appreciate).
