Nobody was impressed with the design of the 5

That's a pretty general statement. I was impressed enough when I looked at it to switch from the iphone 4 - and to use your words "and a lot of people I know did the same". That's quite a few more than "nobody", don't you think?

I think that people will need to get used to the thought that no major form factor changes are likely to happen to this kind of device, there's a reason why all of the touchscreen smartphones look very alike.

Stollen Phone Databases AT&T Greedy as Usual

The quote about databases that would allow stolen mobile phones to be disabled and deny them voice and data service.

Folks this has been in place for Years, way before the iPhone came along.
At&T and Apple have been making money of stollen iPhones since the beginning of the iPhone.

Do some research, ask some people that really know the at&t,verizon,sprint,t-mobile cellular systems (if they will tell you the truth)
I have been in the cell business as a high level tech for yeaaaars and this money train really started up with the introduction of the iPhone at at&t.
(people not doing there research or just not caring that this has been going on, (just sign me up with another iPhone mine was stollen)

If any one tells you different there LYING. There have been stollen phone databases with every company for years)

They just chose to take advantage of the popularity of the iPhone to make some extra off of stollen iPhones, and said they didn't have in place a stollen phone database. Bald Face Liars. AT&T and Apple.

It looks like some folks with some clout have gotten the ball rolling and this will be fixed very shortly.

Sounds like Apple is feeling the disappointment of allot of customers under the new management. If you are listening Apple.. Don't give us the iphone 5S! Nobody was impressed with the design of the 5 nor are we looking to spend more money just for a better chip and camera lens. I am keeping my 4S and so are allot of people I know...

I was impressed and I also know others.
I was glad to get rid of my 4.

What do you expect from Apple? They revolutionized the smartphone market in 2007, they can´t do that every year.
Now we got excellent phones, only thing really needed would be better battery.
If they invent something really new: great! If not: I have been quite happy with my iPhones so far, so I am more than ok with minor updates only.

...They just chose to take advantage of the popularity of the iPhone to make some extra off of stollen iPhones, and said they didn't have in place a stollen phone database...

Yep. Implementing such a database would be a piece of cake for them.

The thing is though, for them to have been designed and spec'd out before his death, we're talking the best part of two years ago. Come another six months, if Apple release a 5S, they won't be doomed, but their competitors will definitely be head to head.

If Tim had anything about him, he'd scrap whatever is in the pipeline for the 5S and take a leap straight to the iPhone 6. At least in physical appearance. Though maybe that's just my own selfish expectation, as I'm due an upgrade this year and don't fancy buying a £800 phone where the coating scrapes off in my pocket, or a cheap plastic alternative.

A lot can change in 4 generations of tech. Unless they got something mind blowing up their sleeves they had better start doing some fresh ideas

The guts change, but all those guts are controlled by larger designs that house them. A new battery design that matches the housing designed for this future product is all controlled by Apple who designs the battery. The same for the SoC.

Apple also designs all the housings for the LTE Radio, Camera lens, speakers, sensors, etc.

The manufacturer meets those design specs and presto! We have the iPhone 6 designed back in 2010 under the visionary eyes of Steven P. Jobs and Jony Ive.

This is absolutely true! I know I've been tracked by the AT&T mob for years. Several times my phone was almost stolen and I'm certain it was the Apple AT&T mobster guys. Fortunately, I caught them, and then realized that I could literally "foil" the thieves by simply lining my iPhone with Reynolds wrap (heavy duty) before putting it in my case. An added bonus is that I get better reception. Seriously, I thought my own personal foil liner would prevent my phone from being tracked, but alas that is not the case.

All you suckers that don't believe this and think that remote wiping of your phone will be protection are gonna be completely shocked one day. Go ahead, make fun, but you will be sorry one day. AT&T & Apple are actively working many scenarios to make you buy more phones!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
JJ

What if the next big thing will be that every iPhone sold will come with an iWatch, which you can sync with your iPhone wirelessly, or give to your daughter as a cool gift or whatever.

Given Jobs' penchant for forcing radical changes at the last moment, that 4 year pipeline comment is fairly worthless.

Of course Aplpe had plans for four years

this does not mean however that they had real designs for that many years. Their plans looked something as follows:

* 2012 - release iPhone 5 with home grown ARM CPU
* 2013 - release iPhone 5S with same CPU shrunk to 28nm process
* 2014 - release iPhone 6

Well, perhaps they had more details for 2012. Perhaps they had an idea when they would know if adding finger print reader would be a good idea but thinking that in 2011 they knew what phone they would release in 2014 is just plain stupid.

Nobody here; i was plenty impressed (an i am still every day). Apple isn't listening (and it's "a lot"..).

Ya, but Steve jobs would be impressed with anything...

Just tell him theres an electronic door with a Apple logo that senses your presence, then unlocks itself as you approach. and he'd be doing backflips in his grave.

I'm not hanging my hopes on anyone. I don't own Apple stock and consequently couldn't care less either way. Im just saying the entire product line in its current state and the next 1 or 2 revisions have all had input from Steve.

The decision to use a 4" screen on iP5...steve approved
The decision do to an iPad mini...steve approved
The iMacs and MBPr...steve approved.

Frankly, I don't see what the surprise is. Apple has had a long and deep pipeline for some time now. And since Jobs happened to be CEO at the time it stands to reason he approved these "enhancements" to current offerings - that's what CEO's do. The question is... how much input and insight did he have in the development of the next 2 iPhones this article refers to. Especially given his failing health. We'll never truly know.

A reminder to keep in mind ! We miss you Jobs ! His innovation is still on the works.

With respect, The Jobs era is over.

He's not here to CONvince people that the new products are "Magical" or to mesmerize them with any other _words. Let's face it his true expertise was selling. Convincing people.

Nearly hypnotizing them into believing he knew what was best for them. Oh sure, Apple collectively created some very impressive things, but those days have either evaporated, or Apple's pace of innovation has slowed to a crawl.

So far this year it's been lots of vaporware, not much substance, and yet the year's not over.

Day one of Q2 is here, perhaps Apple isn't asleep after all. Just busier than they care to admit with all the legal assaults they've either created or been drawn into... due to the great Karma they've generated.

He's never spoken with a biz dev person before?

Nor a government official, apparently. :)

I'm not too worried about Apple's upcoming products. Apple so far has changed four industries. That's an amazing achievement for any company. Because of how quickly the tech industry changes, what Jobs invented just last year might not hold up well next year. The company will have to continue to innovate without him. Apple has chosen Ive to lead the charge into the post-Steve era; We'll probably have to wait till next year to see what results that produces.

Nobody was impressed with the design of the 5

I guess I'm a nobody. I'm grateful for the aluminum back and the lightness. I was constantly worried about accidentally dropping my iPhone 4 -- even with a case on -- since it was all glass. I don't have those worries with the 5.

Just shows even more how silly "Steve Jobs would never have let this happen" posts are.

jeez...that's a lot of hearsay for a DA.

1. Anything that a DA says when he or she isn't in court is hearsay. Which means just because he claims (outside a court) that an Apple employee gave him some information, that isn't any legal evidence.

2. Anything that an Apple employee told him outside court is again hearsay, so in this case it would be double hearsay. Just because an Apple employee told him something (outside a court), that isn't legal evidence that the information is true.

Why would Apple be motivated to add a "remote kill" to a stolen phone. Then no one would steal the phone. Apple make money every time a phone is stollen because that phone get replaced. It is an additional sale for Apple.

Why would Apple spend money to reduce sales? Of course they resist designing in a remote kill feature.

The carriers are different. A stolen phone from their point of view means some one is also using their air-time without paying. Carriers have a big incentive to shut down a stolen phone.

No surprise the caries want this and Apple does not care for it.
