I wish apple will release a MBP with a Dx10 capable card!
Please God!
Let's hope they will hear us!

I seeked information about the release , and still nothing!
Have you some news guys?

Well here's the specs that I would love.. not sure if we'll get all of them though

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB Ram
250GB 5400rpm HD
Nvidia 8600 GS
15.4'' LED backlit display 1680x1050 resolution

No, it's not. It's the same thing as the x1600, slightly speed bumped, and was also low end last year when the MPB launched. Doing that would be another Macbook style slap in the face.

Yes, it's a great chip. Relatively great, that is. Apple is putting in whatever offers best beef-per-watt performance, and I guess that x1700 will be just what the doctor orders. It's not a slap in the face, but instead a decision that keeps the laptop *not* draining its battery too fast and *not* letting the system overheat.

You know, beefy chips get very hot. That's a big no-no for laptops or for other "mini" designs. Desktop workstation is a whole another story. Do you even know how much heat those chips (CPU, GPU, RAM, etc.) are generating at all times? Do you know how much power they require? Are you fine with battery life going down and case temperature going up?

I trust that Apple is optimising these things and whatever MBP configuration we can buy is good enough for me. I just want a new revision out as soon as possible so I can buy one :)

They have to, if they don't want the hardware to be a joke.

Nvidia 8600 GS

That wouldn't surprise me, but I'd hope they at least use the 8600GT. It's slow enough as it is, gets beat out by notebook hardware that's been on the market for a year.

The x1600/x1700 was a joke last year. It's fine for just basic desktop usage, but not if you want a good GPU. It wasn't mid range LAST year. It's just not acceptable on a $2000-2800 laptop, especially if that's the ONLY laptop model that's offered. The 17" Macbook Pro SHOULD Have a high end GPU in it, but not even having mid range...?

The reasons you give against it all sound like Apple choosing form over function in their designs. A decent mid range GPU is obviously easy to do in a 15-17" laptop, because nearly every company offers models with them, and many offer 17" models with high end GPUs.

For battery life, it's probably possible for Apple to slow down a GPU even more than would be possible on a Windows machine if it's on battery. Or they could even include two GPUs, as Sony does in some small models. Though that shouldn't be nessisary in a 15" or larger model.

definitly , apple must change it's policy toward the GPU of it's laptop.

When you compare The new MB and the old MBP , the speed differences are Low (CPU , GPU (x1600) and Ram)
So , If apple want the people to buy THe pro's , they have to put heavy stuff in them!
I mean the price difference is HUGE! about 1000$ , for just a larger screen? A bit More hard drive? this is dishonest!
I mean , they must improve the MBP GPU to create differences between the Laptops!

That IS what Apple is doing, and that IS what Apple has always done; except the "dark ages" when Steve was absent. Apple hardware is *all* about design and everything else is secondary. And I love it! They also know how to optimise performance which is a whole lot more complicated task than simply upping specs.

Besides; there is exactly one company in the whole universe that makes computers worthy to be seen – Apple. I don't do my work in a solitary chamber where nobody ever visits. My work is done in public and my tools are to be seen as well. I want my tools to look nice, because that makes me look nice too. That's one of the reasons why I keep buying Apple products. Not because they look nice, but because they make most sense to my business.

So, yes, I'm happy that Apple still values design.

Not necessarily. The fact that MBP *has* a dedicated GPU makes all the difference in the world. For many, the metal case and bigger screen does the trick. And the rest are just buying it for better throughput.

If they put in LED screens and Santa Rosa, that's a huge difference to Macbook. Even if they didn't even change the GPU at all!

but i thought and i read somewhee that engineering is as or even more important then design. i.e engineering 1st desgin 2nd.

Engineering and design are not mutually exclusive principles. They work together to make best possible product. It's just that (based on looking at sold products) most companies do not have competent design deparment.

Engineering does not for example dictate that "all Apple hardware should have the best CPU's available" (and I bet they would like to) but instead marketing says "there must be difference between the low-end and high-end product (and there is). Does that make marketing 1st?

Well, in an ideal world no one would be so shallow as to make choices based on how something/someone LOOKS.

the 15.4 inch mbp with 2.33ghz is out of stock online at compusa, circuitcity, best buy and amazon.

ooooooooohhh

I know for a fact that US and Finnish people have something common (in that we are not that shallow). Take a look at our presidents, for God's sake...

Well, remember we (the US) had to make the choice between Bush, Kerry and Nader...

The fact that other stores are out of stock is a great news!!!
Please god , send a news tomorow saying that new MBP are released!

Well remember the Pros were out of stock last week, too. I'm not getting my hopes up this time because last Tuesday was devastating.

I agree with you, Apple can drive you crazy with this mess. Just a little notice would not hurt. I hate the wait. I have a brand new 17 inch sitting right next to me unopened because I am waiting for Tuesday. They better deliver!

Not a bad idea. I get the impression, though, that if they update anything, its going to be the 15". Would you go for the 15" if they updated it?

For Santa I might, well on second thought I think I am falling in love with the 17". Just put Santa in both computers. Sometimes it seems Apple drags things out and wait so long that the next big thing is right around the corner.

The problem with 17" is that if there is an update of SR and LED displays for the 15", there are no 17" LED panels yet, so it would be one spec behind...
