The problem with 17" is that if there is an update of SR and LED displays for the 15", there are no 17" LED panels yet, so it would be one spec behind...

I'm not trying to say you are wrong, but are sure there are no 17" LED displays? I ask b/c of the significant absence of people complaining about such a situation, which if you look at any thread in our beloved forum, tends to be what we love to do so the lack of such a gripe seems odd.

According to a rumor that came up a few weeks ago:

https://www.macrumors.com/2007/05/08/led-macbook-pro-update-in-june/

They only ordered 15.4 and 13.3 inch screens.

On the other hand there could be people like myself who want the 17" but don't really care about the LED display and just want SR right away. The benefits of LED are nice with brighter screens and longer battery, but it's just something extra that I could be just as happy if I didn't have it.

AMEN!

what i wanted the most is a built-in remote-control slot, so that i can bring it with my mbp everywhere.

Ok, the traditional websites of rumors were silent this week end , last uptates are from 18 may!
Let's hope they'll got some fresh news today

And for the stock , I can't imagine apple having a Shortage until they release their new model , especialy if it's in june! They would loose too much money!

Moreover , I can remember that , last week , The announce was done monday for tuesday!
so , We may expect the same things....
But , I would be sooo disapointed...if not

Dear God, what have I stumbled upon... the rumours! the speculation! the waiting!

I just cancelled my macbook pro order. I think I'll wait at least until WWDC to make an order. We'll see what happens.

Just settling into my 2.33C2D from a 2.16 C2D and THIS rumour thing kicks off again!!!!

I'm not complaining though LOL!!!

Yes, it's a great chip. Relatively great, that is. Apple is putting in whatever offers best beef-per-watt performance, and I guess that x1700 will be just what the doctor orders. It's not a slap in the face, but instead a decision that keeps the laptop *not* draining its battery too fast and *not* letting the system overheat.

you are giving them too much credit. the gpu they will put there is the slowest and cheapest gpu they feel they could use while staying at least remotely competetive. "beef-per-watt"? nope, try "profit per unit" instead.

Besides which, a Geforce 8800GTS probably has much better performance per watt than an x1600. At least the desktop part does. Draws about double the power, provides about 40 kajilliondebillion times more performance (conservatively speaking).

If for something, I give Apple too much credit for that they do not update their products too often. I am actually liking the fact that whatever is released will stay "current" for at least 6 months.

Having that in mind, it makes sense that current MBP's have the x1600 and that the next one will likely have x1700. Unless they throw in major redesigns I bet they're going to keep using ATI chips of same caliber.

And that's fine.

If they could put in a faster chip that would not draw any more power and/or produce any more heat – I bet they would.

Well , I think that there will be no new MBP tomorow , unfortunatly...
Maybe next tuesday? I hope so

But , I think that apple will choose the Nvidia GPU , they are the best on the market today , moreover , A DX10 GPU seems to be a argument ....
So , let's hope that they will make serious uptades , not only , a small speed bump and/or A increase of HD....

that's what I wanted to say , because , all MBP stocks are out of stock, moreover , I think that apple will do something will the 100 000 led screens they bought , and finaly , I definitly think that They will release it in a short time !

What does DX10 have to do with Mac OS X? The last time I checked, Windows compatibility was a bonus feature. Apple will pick the hardware set that works best with Apple's own software first.

Probably because apples main ethos at the moment is getting people to switch. DX10 ability in windows is an extra feature that will help with that goal.

The features can still be supported in OpenGL, and it's still a better part than the Geforce 7600GT (and thus of course, the x1600). (Plus as Eenu says, it's a nice bonus for Windows users.)

I'm pretty sure it wasn't announced monday for tuesday - it was just announced and released tuesday.

So I find it interesting how Best Buy, has taken down the 15.4 models, Compusa is "Out of Stock", Amazon was reported as "Out of Stock" but now shows up as they have them.

Bah, I never thought I would be one of the ones checking up on this stuff every 20 minutes. The anticipation is growing in me. This is be my first Macbook Pro, likewise Mac. Though, it is by no means the first time I have used one ;) .

I'm even wondering if the 15.4 will even have an LED screen, because they ordered 13" screens to but you don't see the Macbooks have LED screens.

Cheers Jobs, you have planted a seed of anticipation into another geek.
