Apple doesn't make Macs anymore, that's terrible:

January (iPod)
February (iPhone)
March (earbuds)
April (remote controls)
May (Power Adapters)
June (no event)
July (no event)
August (iPod Accessories)
September (Really expensive monitors)
October (more iPods)
Novemberish (iPhone cases)
December (no event, unsustainable)

Now I know what most will say, but then they won't clear out the old when they unknowingly release the new ones. How will they make money. Simple lower the price. I know, I know. I am thinking outside the wheel.

Not trying to flame or anything but looking at it from the company's point of view, why would they announce new computers to come in so many months, then lower prices on the current ones when they really don't have to? It's not a good move for profit margins.

That will piss me off, I'm getting a new iMac in Feb w/ tax money, I was really hoping they'd release new ones at MWSF, even if I didn't get one of the new ones at least they would probably drop the price on the refurbished top of the line 24" iMac if new ones came out. I'm just hoping for some kind of event/release in late Jan. or early Feb. 'cause I know that money will be burning a hole in my pocket and I won't be able to keep myself from buying a new iMac even if they don't release new ones.

Come on, it's not hard to set aside money and not touch it - especially money you don't even HAVE yet! Just do your taxes a little bit later and you won't have that money to "burn a hole in your pocket".

Bottom line: a lot of us are suckers and have fallen for the Apple poison. We sit around waiting for updates and upgrades and new releases and re-releases and non-releases and whatever the hell else there is that has :apple: on it. You can wait a small amount of time for a new computer...you can do it!! (Apple won't wait until fall '09 to release updated Macs. No way, no how that happens)

Yeah doing my taxes later would work if I was only planning on getting a new iMac with that money, but I also have to fix up my car some with that money before it stops working all together so I need it as soon as possible.

Mac Leaves the Pro user behind

Great all these road maps and no pro user road map. Now we have a year old mac pro with zero update.

This is steve's fault. He can only love one product, never everything. If he ran Cannon, he would come out with the best instamatic camera in the world and us pro users would never see a lens again. If anyone even mentioned a roadmap for lenes, they would be fired for not talking about the icamera.

Time for a change at apple. The people with 20K a year apple spend budgets need new products to buy. Give us 2 PCI16X buses and some real graphics cards, give us quads in the laptops. Quit it already about the phone, i have one, it is great, don't need another for 2 years. Need computers, please give me those.

well, i think there's some hogwash to this. where's the professional timeline? the mac and macbook pros? so much of those timelines aren't even computer specific. is he saying that only in the fall are computers on a timeline -- so 1x per year updates now?

Masternile....

How about instead of lowering prices. When the new processors come out they just make it a BTO.

I think they need to multi-task a lil better, not dump what they've accomplished. I mean they got a nice 20 billion dollar cash reserve, they could work on keeping the desktops up to date and with competitive pricing. Now 8 hour batteries are nice, but seriously? Is everybody sleeping in the desktop department?

The Mac Mini is a embarrassment of a computer, 1 gig of ram? Combo Drives? $600? What year is this? Guess what, the next update will have...2 Gigs of ram!! and..a Combo drive! Wow!!

Rant over.

well said. Apple needs a pro division that speaks directly to the community that relies on consistent information in making purchasing decisions.

another interesting aspect of all of this....

Phil's willingness to be more transparent about the situation than Jobs. and his willingness and ability to talk about such a subject... gives the impression that he is indeed being groomed for a leading role in the company certainly. and this along with his good job with the keynote shows promise indeed.

iPhone 3 in June 2010 then. It won't be in 6 months, possibly the nano but not the 3rd gen iPhone. I'd definitely put my money on 2010 for that.

2010!? That would mean 2 years after the last update.

I'm up for that wager.

i agree with some of the other posters here. move macworld to september when the ipods come out. or move it to beginning of school year around august if that's when the product cycle is natural. IDG SHOULD DO THAT!

The Mac Pro / workstation roadmap isn't Apple's to give. That is Intel's playground and as no vendor has said when Gainestown workstations are comming out you can't blame that on Apple.

So... when is the best time to be buy a Pro tower?! I really was looking forward to more Mac Pro upgrades because I'm on an 2002 Quicksilver G4!

As soon as new ones come out. If you need one right now then buy one. The next Pro towers will probably come out between mid April and early June.

I remember reading accounts from former Apple employees how Macworld ruined their holidays with the necessity of working to an early January release.

For the current staff I'm pleased with this decision..

This is true, releasing new models after the holidays has always been something Apple's had to deal with due to Macworld. Nice to see this change

Well surely that means we can only expect an iMac and Mac Pro refresh/update in the educational buying season (late summer)?

Nothing indicates there won't be new iMacs this month or early February and Mac Pros in Q2. he is just saying when Apple will release products. That's not to say they won't do other things as technologies fall in to place.

Exactly. The Mac release cycle is tied to Intel's development cycle for the most part.

Lethal

Really? Where are the Quad-core imacs? Or the upgraded Intel mac minis? I think the mac cycles are tied to nothing but whenever the heck apple wants to release them
