This is so unbelievable that, I bet, if you can video tape how you can scratch it and send it to BSE, they'll pay to buy you a new MB.

i ended up throwing out the skin, otherwise i'd love to do that... anyway my point of this post was not to question how it happened more to question what can be done about it now... so i guess im going to have to go with macstyles.com then and get something from there

some type of metal polish/scratch remover might work!?

metal polish? wont that further damage the aluminum?

It's a possibility. At this point I would let it go because trying anything to either fill in the scratches or buff them out may further mar the finish and you will be really unhappy. I know it's new but at least it's on the lid and not a scratch on your screen whereas you would see it all the time. Just move on and don't waste anymore money trying to protect it. The aluminum is quite resilient so there's really no need to ad covers to protect it. Minor scratches generally rub out but you applied pressure using a sharp object. Most likely it won't happen again.

I checked around, most polishers are for plastics like the white Macbook or the iPod or iPhone 3G. These polishes are not recommended for anodized aluminum. I'm still recommending to save your money for now however if you are interested you can try Colorware PC. They will paint your Macbook for you and they do great work.

Thought it was ~$800 for the topsection, since the glass is bonded on the whole top has to be replaced

Dude, its a scratch. Not a big deal. Just get over it.
It is a LAPTOP computer, and is meant to be carried around, and subsequently scratched up.
Not really sure why you care about it so much, but its your call. Just slap a sticker over it or something.

if there is some foreign object (like sand) trapped on the highly adhesive film then this could easily happen.

He notices what he thinks are air bubble and rubs and rubs causing the sand to move back and force as it's wet, hence the scratches.

Fix it with laser etching...

I've seen a lot of this company's work and it's pretty fantastic. Certainly personalizes your laptop. Talk to them about creating something that will incorporate and camouflage your scratches. Might be worth a try. http://www.etchstar.com/samples.php

This is why you need a case

So after getting my new MBP i was traveling in LA and my strap on my computer bag broke. I dropped my weeks old machine and it hit the ground not once but twice. Look closely at the Ethernet port. No way you can get a connector in there now. Guess I will be using wireless forever on this machine. I have a case on it now and sure wish these would have been ready then. I could have saved myself some dents. This thing is sweet. It comes off super easy as well as lets the screen tilt all the way back.

Bent MBP

@ Mnstr

What happened to the port? I cant really see anything?

The case bent up to the point that the left bottom corner of the RJ45 port will not let a cable be plugged in now.

The angle is bad on the photo but when you look at the left side the bottom part is bent up from impact to the back corner of the machine. If i would have had my case on this baby i am sure it would not have been as bad or maybe no dents at all.

Damn that sucks!!! Sorry this happened to you!

I read 4 pages of this thread waiting for someone to suggest etching. It should be the perfect coverup. Then you could toss it in a backpack and not worry about scratches again.

I cant really think of ONE thing i would want on my MacBook forever. Thats the only problem with etching. I have seen some REALLY cool ones but i just dont know if its something i would want permanently you know..

Yea that would be a tough call but if it would cover bad scratches I might think of something.

BestSkinsEver Rock

I just wanted to say I've applied BestSkinsEver to my MB Alum. 2.4 and it looks fantastic.

I don't get the talk about it being like your grandma's couch with a plastic cover.

BestSkinsEver preserves the beauty of the aluminum while adding a great looking gloss to the MB. It looks like somebody waxed my MB and made it shine. I couldn't be happier.

I would suggest this as the best way to protect your MB without compromising its beauty. The cases all cover what you paid for. Worse, I don't think it is possible to have a hard case that isn't going to allow dirt inside of it to make scratches on your supposedly protected MB.

I would post pic's but others already have...Yes, you have to be skilled enought to install it correctly. But if you do you will be impressed.

OUCH!.. sorry to see that.

Hmmmm

Sounds like a pitch from someone working for BSE? You must be in marketing... Bash cases and point out how great BSE is...

Funny and transparent
