Hey guys,

I received my SE yesterday and absolutely loving it. I'm having to use my 6S case as my new case is taking longer than expected to arrive. However, one thing I'm in desperate need of is a decent screen protector. I bought one from eBay that claimed was for the SE 2020 but I found the protector was way too small and only really fit the center of the phone - looked a bit ridiculous when applied so I removed it. Reading further, I heard that this is exactly the way it's meant to be due to the curved areas, is this correct?

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks and stay safe :)

Spigen didnt fit, they said as of 5/10, they should have proper ones out by end of May. Maxboost, got good reviews and said to fit new SE, but they don’t neither. Just returned them.

Well that’s discouraging, I was really hopeful since they had a SE section on their webpage and only really positive reviews. Really interested on how they reply.

This is disappointing since the Mobile Reviews Eh guy really recommends these, I have usually had really good luck with all his recommendations.

Mine already shipped and I’m pretty happy with the Amazon Manto one, if I don’t like the FloLab, might just put another Manto one on. 😬

I do like that you can’t tell it has a screen protector with a case on since it covers the entire screen.

Same here!! I love Aaron's channel. And he's not wrong—the glass itself feels really nice, noticeably more sturdy than any other brand I've used before. So their protectors for Face ID-equipped phones are probably great.

FloLab wrote back last night, assuring the protector was made specifically for the new SE and not for the 7/8 curve (but seeing as it's a flat piece of glass I don't know how that plays out). They offered a replacement chalking it up possibly to defect, but I will ask if I can just get some money back since I don't think that's the case.

Interesting that the Manto worked for you (it failed for me). There's a possibility that since the Manto worked on yours, the FloLab will work for you. Try it out and let us know :)

When did you order/get your SE? Maybe there's a slight manufacturing difference in the screens.

I ordered my SE at launch. Will let you know about FloLab once I receive it, still don’t have estimated date for delivery. 😐

Update on FloLab:
I expressed that I was pretty confident a replacement wouldn't make a difference, and just asked for a refund. They refunded the full transaction, which was pretty nice.

I read a tip that suggested to use olive oil and a q-tip around the edge of the protector to hide the haloing. I gave it a shot (but with vegetable oil since that's more stable) and it seems to work for now :)

Newbie here, but I've been following this thread the past few weeks. I have had the Supershieldz protector on for about 12 hours and it fits perfect. Time will tell if it starts to lift at the edges, but for now, it's fine. Some reviewers on Amazon claimed it has the halo effect, but I'm not seeing it.

Based on feedback I've read on this forum, I've also ordered the Amfilm brand. It's too late to cancel the order, so I guess I will use those as a backup, if the Supershieldz doesn't hold up.

What causes haloing? Is it same as air bubble trapped under the screen protector or is it because the screen protector is flat and so not sticking along the curved edges?
How does applying oil help?

It's because the protector is flat and the SE (2020) edges are curved. The reviews you are reading on the Apple site are for the protector for the previous version of the SE. Apple seems to have told manufacturers that the SE (2020) had the same dimensions, but did not explain that the edge of the screen was curved.

Alright y'all, I've been following a couple of these threads looking for the best screen protector recommendations for the SE 2020, and I wanted to recap some of the things I've read and provide my own measurements and tests.

I'm looking for the most screen coverage I can find, and I obviously want no halo effect. It seems clear the SE 2020 screen curve starts further from the edge of the phone than previous models, so though manufacturers are saying their existing models will fit they halo pretty badly. I've seen reviewers describe that a 2.5D protector is flat, but with a rounded/beveled edge while a full 3D protector is actually 3D, where the edges of the glass actually curve down, which would be ideal. However, in my experience with one and another poster's experience with the highly touted FLOLAB protector for the SE 2020... the only "3D" protectors we're seeing on the market right now still seem to all be flat - no curved glass options available yet.

Right, so our results from the first ones I tried - Power Theory (PT) iPhone 8 / iPhone 7 Glass Screen Protector from Amazon - well, it falls short. Small coverage, bad halo effect. Our unprotected screen size (between the edges of our phone cases side to side) is 64mm. The PT protector is only 59mm wide, so there are big coverage gaps between the edges of the protector and the case. The manufacturer cuts it small to try to keep it on just the flat part of the phone, but it still halos all around the outside edge. It is a good protector though; it already saved my wife from a cracked screen. The protector itself cracked of course, so I had to replace it and luckily I already had the Manto Edge to Edge protector that another poster had recommended.

Here's the PT on my phone:

The Manto is MUCH better. It covers 62.5mm of the 64mm screen width, there is virtually no halo (or if there is, it's MOSTLY masked by the black edging; see red arrow in picture), and the gaps between the protector and the case are so small it's almost impossible to pull up the edge of the protector on accident (at least with our thick profile Speck cases). The ONE thing I have to call out about the Manto is that its "viewing window" (due to the black edging) is slightly smaller than the visible screen. I've measured the visible screen as 58.5mm and the Manto's viewing window (between the black edges) is 57.5mm. I'd say it's hardly noticeable, but that might still be a factor for some readers.

At this point, I'm happy to recommend the Edge to Edge Manto for most people (white or black, their clear protector is not Edge to Edge). It'll come in the mail faster than the FLOLAB and it's cheaper, but I certainly wouldn't fault anyone if they prefer to get the FLOLAB which is known for being an ultra-premium quality glass. (And I reserve the right to stand corrected if someone else chimes in saying the FLOLAB is actually curved. XD)

Manto on Amazon

I'm also waiting on another one - ESR Maximum Protection Full Coverage - which claims to have 3D rounded edges - though I won't be surprised if it ends up being flat. I'll submit a follow up if it outperforms the Manto.

And if you care to have all those measurements at a glance, here they are:

Speck Phone cases: 64mm screen width (between rubber edges)

TP Protector: 59mm coverage
Manto Protector: 62.5mm coverage

Phone's Visible Screen: 58.5mm
Manto's Viewing Window: 57.5mm

Did anyone tried the Belkin screen protector from Apple's website? The shipping is over a month. i was wondering is this has the correct edges.

Thanks for sharing your experience. You mentioned Manto screenprotector covers part of the display, is it horizontally or vertically and does it cut any of the icons?

Great writeup, thank you for sharing!
It's really interesting how much variance there is in people's results. I installed the Manto on both my own and my father's phone and it bubbled like yours along the left, but also all along the right hand side. And someone earlier in the thread had none.

I have the FloLab and can confirm it's absolutely not curved. It's actually an awful dust magnet, since adhesive is just hanging off the edge.

If you want to get rid of that bubbling, all you need to do is dip a q-tip in a tiny amount of vegetable oil, dab it along the edge of the screen protector, and wipe off the excess. I thought it'd be awful, but it worked perfect for me!

hmm, i just received Flo Lab Screen Protector waiting for Phone Rebel case to arrive before I install it to my SE, but y'know I am bit disappointed to read that Flo Lab does not fit precisely to SE - and even seems that side border is bit thicker than it actually should!

I was considering Rhinoshied Impact Skin too, and I should have chosen that for no halo.

Oh well - let's see what happens.

I have received such reply from one of the stores here:
There will be no dedicated screen protectors for SE 2020 as the shape of it is just like the one of I7 nad I8 and thus all major companies making them had been sent the pattern from Apple.

Any comments?

Thanks for sharing your experience. You mentioned Manto screenprotector covers part of the display, is it horizontally or vertically and does it cut any of the icons?

The screen blockage is on the sides, about a 0.5mm on each side. So it exists, but to me it's VERY minimal; icons are NOT covered at all. I just measured top to bottom and both the screen and the screen protector window are 104mm, so no blockage there.

If you want to get rid of that bubbling, all you need to do is dip a q-tip in a tiny amount of vegetable oil, dab it along the edge of the screen protector, and wipe off the excess. I thought it'd be awful, but it worked perfect for me!

Oh yeah - thanks for the reminder! I'll check with my wife and we'll do this if the halo spot is still there. I've seen some reviews saying that some edge bubbles may go away on their own if the adhesive is good enough.

OK, NEW REVIEW TO ADD:

I got the ESR protector in and I'd say it's very similar to the Manto. It's not 3-dimensional glass with curved edges; it's flat like all the rest. Its viewing window (inside the black edges) does measure the same as the phone screen with no blockage, so that's good. Unfortunately, the one I looked at had a piece of dust between the glass and the protective backing that comes on it. I'm not sure how easy that'll be to remove before applying the protector to the phone. In my case, especially since I already used one of the 2 protectors from the Manto kit, I'll be returning the ESR kit and putting the remaining Manto on my phone.

Aaaaand we have an immediate update.

primarycolors' last post was spot on in a few areas: variance, Manto bubbling, and a solution.

It's really interesting how much variance there is in people's results. I installed the Manto on both my own and my father's phone and it bubbled like yours along the left, but also all along the right hand side. And someone earlier in the thread had none.

Even though my wife's Manto went on splendidly, I just put mine on and it turned out like primarycolors', halos all up and down the right and left sides.

But that q-tip and oil trick is science at its finest! In most spots I just rubbed the oil-soaked (but not dripping) q-tip along the edge of the protector where it meets the phone and you can see the oil soak right in and the halo disappear. In the worse spots, though, the oil kind of sealed the bubble in at first. I just worked the bubble out like you normally would and the remaining oil around the area filled it right in perfectly. Voila!

At this point I'm very happy with the results. 👍

Ok guys, here’s my Input for what it’s worth. It’s been mentioned here, but I tried this one after multiple halos with other brands. This one went on fine with no halo. I even have 2 friends with the iPhone SE and both had no halo effect as well. Just search for this title on Amazon.

amFilm Glass Screen Protector for iPhone SE 2020, iPhone 8, 7, 6S, 6 (4.7")(2 Pack) Halo Free Tempered Glass Screen Protector (2020)

So Manto Screen Protector is the way to go? For where the screen is covered by the Black border, does this cover things like the battery indicator?

The blockage covers practically nothing. 0.5mm = 1/50th of an inch. The blockage does exist, so I felt like I should mention it in my review, but for the vast majority of people, you'll never notice it.

Follow-up on this. It's been about a week, and SuperShieldz is holding up like a champ. I received the Amfilm shipment but haven't bothered to open it yet. SuperShieldz works beautifully. I'll use the Amfilm as a replacement when needed.

Could you put a photo in please?

So, is there any that deliver to Australia? best buy is not here, am film cannot deliver. I am quite worried about only having a plastic one on at the moment.

Well the Insignia I installed on my SE fit perfect with no halo or bubbles. So I gave my mom the second one of my two pack. Installed it tonight and right corner near the home button would not stay down no matter what I tried. I reapplied it twice and it just got worse. So much for the Insignia working every time. Guess I’ll try the amFilm next and see if it works.

I agree with KingCarp, the Manto seams to be the best bang for your buck. I have tried both the Flolab and the Manto and they are very similar in look, performance, and install. I experienced slight haloing with both of them but nothing noticeable in day to day use, I have not tried oil/q-tip trick mentioned above yet.

For the price Manto is the overall winner, 2 protectors for $10 is hard to beat, versus $25 with the Flolab for a single protector.

I am curious on the performance of the ESR Protector mentioned above, please let us know how it turns out!
