I tried the amfilm 4 different times today, and it had a halo effect, not to mention not being bubble free. I am very good at applying screen protectors and was not happy with the results.

this surprises me to hear. Have you contacted amfilm? Tried both protectors? I wonder if it’s an old batch or something

Because the screen on the 2020 SE is curved, only screen protectors that are curved will fit properly. The screens on the iPhone 7/8 are flat and the screen protectors that fit them properly are flat. Protectors that fit iPhones 7/8 will always produce the halo effect on the 2020 SE. You can't buy a protector that fits both the 2020 SE and the iPhones 7/8. Only a protector that is specifically designed to fit the curved 2020 SE screen will provide coverage without the halo effect. I have had conversations with Apple and Belkin about the issue, but neither seems especially eager to address it. Bottom line: The Belkin Invisiglass protector advertised on the Apple web site as compatible with the 2020 SE will not work on that phone without creating the halo effect.

It seemed the options mentioned above are mostly US-based, we couldn't get them in Canada (otherwise the import fees etc.). So I tried this LK protector on Amazon CA with no expectations. Received today and it fits the screen very well! No halo (well, halos did appear on the edges at first, but constant pressing on those areas for a short while did the magic for me) and it's wide enough to cover the full screen.

That’s pretty bad news if Apple and Belkin aren’t willing to admit to the problem.

I agree with KingCarp, the Manto seams to be the best bang for your buck.
...
I am curious on the performance of the ESR Protector mentioned above, please let us know how it turns out!

YES! - xboxer, it was your recommendation for the Manto that led me to it in the first place... so thanks for the hot tip!

For those looking at the amFilm or other screen protectors being recommended as "halo free" but aren't an "edge-to-edge" protector, I gotta point you one more time to the Manto (with one caveat*). I like that it covers more of the phone surface than any of those NON-edge-to-edge protectors, which means there's less chance an unlucky drop will find the gap between your protector and case, AND I think it looks MUCH better. No notch at the top, no clearly visible edge lines, and it goes fully around the bottom of the home button. Once it's on, it's practically invisible.

*The Caveat - If you don't use a case on your phone, I don't think you'll like the Manto or other currently available (i.e. flat) edge-to-edge protectors. They do have a bit of a harsh edge to them when the case is off. With a case on there, though, it's nearly seamless.

Right, the ESR [3D+ Maximum Protection Full Coverage] was very similar to the Manto. I expect it might work just as well, but it's not actually curved even though it was their New SE-only version. And by the time I received it I had already had to put one Manto on my wife's phone. Since the ESR was basically the same as the Manto, I just decided to put the other Manto on my phone and I returned the ESR pack to Amazon. I will note though that the Manto kit seemed much more "premium" than the ESR, it was less expensive, and the ESR one I looked at had a speck of dust between the screen protector and the protective backing, which no doubt would've transferred to the phone and been a big annoyance to deal with (I bet that's actually exceedingly rare, but still something to look out for).

I got my Manto screen protectors today and they look great. So far there is no haloing.

The install was easy with the guide plastic. I steamed up my bathroom, cleaned the screen with alcohol wipes, used the extra large sticker to lift dust off the screen and it came out perfect.

Thank you guys for the recommendation!

The amfilm that's $7.99 on amazon in a 2 pack thats marketed for SE 2020 and 'halo free' is in fact halo free.

I recommend it.

Ripped off my BodyGuardz and threw it in the trash

any halo effect you see is an optical illusion. the little bubble to the right of touchID is where I lifted it and re-applied quickly since it wasn't really well aligned the first attempt and the bottom left is because of that too. its ever so slightly more on the left than right from my doing, but Im happy enough with the install Im not going to use the second screen protector for a while.

Mine is due to arrive any day, thanks to your recommendation. It definitely looks great!

I bought 2 double packs and all 4 had the halo problem. I contacted TehMatte thru Amazon earlier today and am waiting on a reply.
major bummer.

i hope they help you out. They should that seems crappy

That’s kind of surprising that big names like Belkin or Zagg haven’t gotten it right.

that’s a lot of money on the table and in returns that will happen since the SEs are selling pretty well

I got the Spigen one for my wife's SE and figured it would work no problem. Horrible Halo all around. The box for it had a new Barcode over the existing one with the name "iPhone SE" on the sticker. So they basically slapped a new barcode on boxes of old screen protectors and thought it would. I actually came on here to ask about screen protectors and found this thread.

So it seems the screen for the SE is actually different than the 8? It curves...earlier I guess?

Whats the consensus of a good screen protector to buy for the SE?

So do not buy the Spigen? Man, that looks easy to install. I don't see a review at Amazon from iPhone SE 2020 owners. Almost identical to the machine they use at the Apple Store. Anyone tried the Maxboost brand, supposed to be the thinnest glass screen protector at .2mm 9 (think most at .3mm).

Id say no. Had a horrible halo on my wife's SE.

After contacting support, they sent me here :
I don't know.. it shows as it was first available April 29, and no comments, no nothing..
What do you think?

I don’t see any iPhone SE protectors on the Spigen site. That wasn’t the case when the SE was released. I don’t think Spigen has released their new SE screen protector. I could be wrong.

Well, it looks like I'm just in time with this update:

I'll add the Spigen [Glas.tR AlignMaster] to the list of good edge-to-edge screen protectors, along with the Manto. In fact, I'd place it just above the Manto.

Amazon - Spigen [Glas.tR AlignMaster]

Here's the haps: loved my Manto, but dropped my phone on the gravel driveway face down (really???!!, I've had this phone for like 10 seconds!). Screen protector cracked, but saved the phone; can't ask for any more than that in this case. Since I used both Mantos on my phone and my wife's, I had to buy some freshies. Unfortunately, Amazon was all sold out of the Mantos, so I had to try something else. Along came the Spigen (which had previously not existed), and it says it's specifically designed for the SE 2020. However, they also claim it fits the iPhone 8/7 so I knew it wouldn't be curved, but I was ok with that.

I just got it today and I'm very happy with the Spigen. It seems to have smoother edges than the Manto and I didn't need to use the "oil around the edge" trick to get rid of any lingering halo. I just pressed the edges down for a little bit and then it stayed halo-free. My best guess is they probably repurposed their 8/7 glass but added thicker/stronger adhesive to get the edges to stay down. But again that's just a guess - whatever they did, I'm very happy with it. When I bought this the curved Omoton wasn't available (still isn't) and I didn't see any other "SE 2020 only" options.

Thing is, I hate this kind of screen protectors, they are made out of 2 layers, had a similar one from Seidio on my iPhone 6.. with a hallo effect on the sides :(.. since than, I only use the clear and short type (sure it doesn’t cover edge to edge, but it never give a hallo effect).. will see if they release an updated one soon.

I mentioned the “first available on April 29” because if I remember correctly, the EZ FIT was also available at that time. So I have a reason to believe, it would have a hallo effect.

I was told by Spigen Support (via Twitter) that the new version screen protector for the iPhone SE 2020 will be available around end of next week. I've been checking with them on weekly basis. They couldn't give me an exact date yesterday but it's coming next week.

Has anyone tried the Moshi screen protector? I’ve had good experience with their protectors in the past...

Would someone mind explaining to me what we need in an SE screen protector? It sounds like the screen on these isn't exactly like an 7/8 as originally expected? This is for my wife's phone. I first bought her a Spigen a few weeks ago that claimed to be for the SE but was clearly a rebranded 7/8 protector and had an awful halo effect.

I found this thread and saw people mention the Manto being good and the ESR. The Manto was sold out so we got the ESR but haven't had time to put it on. But reading through some recent comments, it looks like the ESR is not curved. What does that mean exactly and how does it affect how it sits on the phone?

My wife is not picky, but she doesn't want the halo effect. Other than that, anyone will do.

It also looks like Spigen came out (or is about to come out) with a TRUE iPhone SE one?

Thanks for your help.

I would wait for Spigen. but maybe you can try a plastic screen protector , just for now. Somthing with a wet application maybe.

Hi,

First time posting here.
I've had all the same issues with multiple brands (ESR, Unbreakable, JeTech, etc).
I haven't come across any protectors that fit the new iPhone SE 2020 (like others on here I have made the switch from an 11 Pro to the new SE, for a smaller form factor, and great camera performance, without the premium).
I have have also written to Spigen and they have just come back to say:

"Dear Customer,

We do expect to have them in the nearest future, perhaps in next two month.Apologies, not able to provide with more precise information.

Kind regards,

Alex"

So the advice I am getting from theme differs from above, saying its 4-8 weeks before they have a protector that fits.

Is there one anyone that has one that fits (with our the black borders and camera cut out ideally)?

@dai23 have the OMOTON (OMOTON[4 Pack] Screen Protectors for iPhone SE 2020,New iPhone SE 2 Tempered Glass Screen Protector with [Easy Installation Frame] [9H Hardness] [Crystal Clarity] [Scratch-Resistant] [No-Bubble] ) worked for you....?

Thanks for your help.

What do you think?

This is no longer listed on Amazon, so assume they 'know' it doesn't work/fit correctly and it's ben taken down because of this...

Apple stores sell & install Belkin iPhone screen protectors. They use special aligning machines for it and do it for you in the spot, takes a few minutes. 🖐
