i'm iffy about this....when it's your phone and your ipod and many other things all in one......you don't feel like running with it...at least i don't

That's why my comment about a nike armband to go along with it. So far, both armbands I have looked at, I would not trust enough to run with.

Hmmm. Current Nike+ users like me have no doubt noticed that Nike is advising of web-site maintenance later today/tonight.

Aren't they just going to try to fix the mess that is the current challenge/records set up where lots of people/challenges have lost miles/times?

Second, Nike I'm sure has put a lot of money into those special Nike+ shoes, and they wouldn't be able to sell those anymore.

Aren't pretty much all Nike running shoes + enabled now? I recall someone in my local running store bemoaning the fact that the midsole felt different. Just as well to say Nike are trying to cut Apple out of the equation by introducing the sportsband for those without Nanos.

As for the advert text, well done for sticking to your principles but I'm in with those who don't see it as being quite so offensive as you do; I'll agree with you wholeheartedly on abuse of handicap parking permits though.

I don't think the wording suggests that everyone in a wheelchair is a drooling misshapen husk (the most offensive words in there IMO) just that it's possibly the worst-case scenario that an active trail runner could likely imagine for themselves as the result of a trail injury because it's so far removed from their current life. And if they had a choice, they'd probably only take the wheelchair one if the other option was death. Human nature being what it is though, at least some of them would discover that it's possible still to continue their lives and be happy.

Sweat has killed three of my iPod nano's. If you think I'm going to sweat on an iPhone that cost 3x you're insane.

This app is just as likely to be an app that let's you log onto the Nike+ site on your iPhone/ iPod touch.

Looks like a fake to me. On the "goals" screenshot the second label reads "Set A New Goals." I think the folks at Nike would use slightly better english than that!

I saw that too, but then realized that it could be "Set 'A' New Goals", where "A" is simply the name someone gave to a workout set. It could have as easily been "Set Marathon New Goals" or "Set Jim's New Goals", if "Marathon" or "Jim's" was the name given to the workout.

What the effing sort of graphic is that??

Whoever designed that graphic for Apple is an idiot. The first thing I thought when I saw that was Apple's stock price falling.

Morons.

Do some googling on the name "Ben Stahlhood". If you are a good detective, you will understand why to trust me. That is all I can say :)

well, not to take anything away from you, i can tell that you don't work for apple or nike, and you haven't given us anything to believe (besides what you typed here). i'm not saying i don't believe you, but i'm not saying i do either.

please tell us more

I Don't Care Who ....

I refuse to purchase products from a company that once published this ad in a hiking magazine:

"Fortunately, the Air Dri-Goat features a patented, goat-like out sole for increased traction, so you can taunt mortal injury without actually experiencing it. Right about now you're probably asking yourself, "How can a trail running shoe with an outer sole designed like a goat's hoof help me avoid compressing my spinal cord into a Slinky on the side of some unsuspecting conifer, thereby rendering me a a drooling, misshapen, non-extreme-trail-running husk of my former self, forced to roam the Earth in a motorized wheelchair with my name, embossed on one of those cute little license plates you get at carnivals or state fairs, fastened to the back?"
To that we answer, hey, have you ever seen a mountain goat (even an extreme mountain goat) careen out of control into the side of a tree?
Didn't think so."

Nike lost my business in 2000.

I don't care who you are that is FUNNY! :D

iphone's not too big

i've run once with my iphone (was on-call for work, but wanted to go for a run:cool:). it fit nicely in the mesh pocket of my zoot tri shorts.

maybe it'd be better in a pocket of a "fuel belt" for those of us who do long distance - to protect it from sweat, but would the gps still work???

i find gps very accurate - those complaining about gps accuracy - are you under cloud cover? outside my gps is accurate to within a few metres:D

I enjoyed nike+ipod when I had nano. but since I have only used iphone, I have missed the fact that will be coming or not. so it is great news for everybody who wants to work out with nike+ system. it will be coming soon. of course, it won't be free. I don't know. but I will buy it. actually, it takes advantage of GPS on google map as well.

Neither Apple or Nike are doing the app for iPhone. One of the larger design studios out there handles a lot of the Nike work when it comes to the plus brand. That studio hired another studio to do the work ;)

how do you know that? do you have any idea when this will be released (that's really what matters)

Unless you plan on wearing your iPhone under your shoe, it's not going to be accurate. The accelerometer in nike+ works by calculating how much time your foot spends going up, on the ground, and pushing away. An accelerometer is not like a speedometer in a car, wearing the sensor anywhere on your body but on the bottom of the shoes would not work.

Not only that, but the system also relies on the fact that the sensor is still (not moving) during the short time your foot is on the ground. This is used to cancel out drift in the signals coming from the actual accelerometer inside the sensor. Without this drift-cancellation, the system would be much more inaccurate. This is why it's not good enough to wear it around your ankle or in a loosely attached pouch on top of your shoe. It's OK to wear it on top of your shoe, but you must ensure that it doesn't move around while you're running.

It is being wrapped up over the next couple weeks. It will then be up to the studio and Nike to work out the details on release...

Both the iPhone and the iPod touch are a bit big for working out or running, which is one reasonwhy I think we will see a new device running Mobile OS X (one other being bringing the entry price for Mobile OS X devices down), let's just call it "iPod touch nano":
- just as big as the display itself is, perhaps a little smaller display than the iPod touch/iPhone, 8GB memory
- the iPod touch would then get an upgrade with GPS, camera and microphone, and perhaps 64GB

Although it would be nice to have GPS in the iPod touch nano also when using the Nike+iPod application :)

It's a fake - as reported in the post edit. The extra photo on AppleInsider shows the user playing a song by ColdPlay called 'Violent Hill' (it's 'Violet Hill', obviously) - to go with the other typos already pointed out.

I do want this, and it does make sense. But I don't think this is it.

Couldn't it just be that they didn't want to have to get rights to the song for the prototype?

Does anyone actually have any firm info here? I just bought some Nike+ trainers and I really want to get into it with my iPhone.
