I have purchased from Tiger Direct two times, the first and last.
Be careful of hidden charges, massive junk mail and email, and not so new merchandise.

Newegg is worth the $10 more..

Agreed. I used Google Checkout and choose "keep email hidden", then as soon as TigerDirect starting sending me junk email (through a Google immediate email address, like jaofejoae-a3reij2a@googlecheckout.com), went into Google Checkout and disabled communication from TigerDirect.

Also, the $1.99 shipping turned into $6.99 through Google Checkout. Now I going to waste time fighting for a $5 credit from TG.

Newegg is so worth the $10 for piece of mind, no junk, excellent shipping and service. Too bad they have no stock. (or at least when i purchased it)

This sounds good to me. Do you have a problem with it?

Again I don't get all the caution. I get spammed from Amazon, Apple, eBay, or any other place I purchase. That is what I have a Spam folder for. As for as my purchase of this drive, it was exactly what was quoted, for the drive and shipping. Plus no sales tax.
I also used my AmEx card if I need to dispute anything at all.

This has nothing to do with NewEgg.

This is about specific previous issues with Tiger Direct. Many people have been charged a different invoiced amount by TD vs. what they were shown when they were ordering. Other people that have had problems with a piece of hardware (and some people are definitely having issues with some of these drives) have had difficultly simply trying to get an exchange or return.

Sure, customer service isn't an issue when everything goes fine. Do us a favor and wait until you try to return a defective drive and let us know how it goes. Customer service is more than just shipping something out the door and emailing a tracking number. Customer service is how they handle problems that will inevitably come up with a certain percentage of any hardware.

And I really don't get your "its only $129" comment. Even if that's pocket change to you, that doesn't mean it is for everyone else.

This is like reading the Apple support forums. If one or more people have an issue, they think EVERYONE has the same issue. The same with Seagate. Another person in this thread had an issue with a Seagate drive and writes "DO NOT BUY". Hard Drives fail, that is a fact. That is why the backup industry exists. And my comment about the price was, it is less expensive than NewEgg, and cheaper then some 320 GB hard drives.

No problems here, which is why I stated I ordered one.

Hi scmguru,

I'm sorry. I didn't mean for my comment to come off that way. I know you ordered one. Mine arrives Tuesday. I look forward to getting it, and will post back with a review. I hope you do too!

LOL!! "Excuse me Mr. FedEX delivery guy, I need to you wait while I install this new drive and format it to make sure it's okay." Yeah.. right. ;)

What a crappy return policy! I'd rather pay a few bucks more and deal with Newegg! They have a no hassle return policy.

They are referring to the packaging being damaged. If its damaged don't accept delivery. I've never had a problem asking the delivery person to hold on while I look inside a crushed box to see if the item was crushed as well. Of course that assumes they even wait for me to get to the door before they just leave it on the ground!

Cheers,

No worries. :)

Mine should be here mid week next week.. I hope to see a significant improvement v. Scorpio Blk 320.

Why does the drive on newegg show as "Deactivated"? The notify me button is gone.

TigerD still has them in stock.. I didn't notice it before, but on the item webpage, and there's a "30 day guarantee" button in a blue box right below the "add to cart" button.

Click it and get..the following
"30 day iron clad guarantee.."

WE STAND BEHIND THE PRODUCTS WE SELL

Every product that displays the "30 DAY IRON CLAD GUARANTEE" icon online is backed by our promise that you'll be satisfied with the product or we'll take it back within 30 days.

It's that simple.

There's no need for excuses. If you buy any product with a "30 DAY IRON CLAD GUARANTEE" icon via our website or catalog and decide to return it, just contact our service center for an RMA number then return the complete, undamaged product in the original packaging for an exchange or a credit to your original form of payment.

Just one more way TigerDirect.com makes buying great technology hassle-free.

Yep, I just ordered through TigerDirect; first time through them. I ordered my ram and external enclosure through Newegg. It was darn near difficult to find a firewire external enclosure these days. I missed the window to order the 7200 RPM 500GB through Newegg.

The sad thing is I ordered my MBP on Tue and these items through Tiger and Newegg will undoubtedly arrive before the MBP will.

I love newegg but if they don't have them now I'm not waiting for the drive like I'm waiting for my macbook so I just ordered from TD. First time, that 30 day money back thing made up my mind.

Just in time too, I need to upgrade a MBP Rev. D with a 120 GB Serial ATA at 5,400-rpm, that is about 80% full. I'll wait till Newegg has it again though. One question about doing the upgrade, I'd like to take it to an authorized apple repair place for them to do the upgrade, what should I expect them to charge just for replacing the drive? I have Drive Genius 2 and I will be making a copy of my drive using an external usb/eSATA enclosure, which will ultimately house the old drive.

gshock hard drives

if you get a gshock drive you must disable the one that is built into the apple notebook. they have all had it from the i books. the way to do that is to open the treminal and type (sudo pmset -a sms 0) type your password and then to ckeck it (sudo pmset -g). that sould take care of the problem with g-skock hds. To undo it (sudo pmset -a sms 1) and then the password and to check it (sudo pmset -g). that is for leopard

I've had this in my computer for about 1.5 weeks. Running pretty sweet. Ordered it from newegg and it's the non-shock version.

Virus scanning time in vista is a bit shorter. Actually it's a lot shorter coming from my 320gb 5400rpm hitachi, which is now my backup drive for time machine.

For comparison, AVG used to be about 45 minutes and is now 30, where as windows defender used to be about 1:30 and is now more like 1:00

What (if anything) did you guys use to check the entire drive when you got it. Is there a bit checker app that I can run to write/read each bit to make sure the HD is good to go?

I didn't do anything. I just installed it and cloned my installation over. I then used verify disk to make sure I was good, and then repaired permissions. People are being way too paranoid because one set of seagates failed. It doesn't effect this drive as far as anyone knows.

If it conflicts I'd prefer to shut off the hard drives g-shock instead of the Apple one, is there an option for that? I could see a use for having both, but that's not supported so far.
