Wow, you along with the rest of the people who donated are why our world still has some good left in it. (if that makes sense)

uh...hate to say it, i'm sure I'll get slammed but I kind of agree with the "troll". Donating is commendable (I have family and friends there as well, and appreciate anyone who donates), but going online and making a thread just to tell everyone that?... It seems like just looking for praise for yourself which is not the reason to donate. There's also people here that are excited to talk about their purchases, it's kind of a damper when everyone is talking about buying an ipad and one guy is like "I didn't buy an ipad, I helped people in a disaster instead!" It's a great thing he did, but if you really need people to know you donated there are probably better places for it.

I guess the one good effect sharing that could have is that it might be contagious and get other people to donate as well but...I understand where calderone is coming from too.

The purest form of charity is anonymous. All others beg scrutiny.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're not saying this for attention and kudos, but it does mean that if you buy an iPad next month, you didn't really give your iPad money to Japan, you just gave them some money, which is a lovely gesture of course, but highly off topic.

I only wish I was as generous as you are. I donated but nowhere near that much.

If everyone was like you then there would be an extra half billion dollars in donations, just to give it some perspective.

I don't agree with other people who don't like this thread, it is never a bad thing to remind people of good deeds. It only encourages others to do the same or similar good things. I am not saying we should all start threads like this, but one is not gonna hurt.

I also agree with the poster some people are calling a troll (really don't see how he was a troll). Easy enough to create a thread and suggest that people pass their iPad 2 money onto disaster relief for Japan. No need to bring up the fact that you donated and make it the thread title. I have a hard time believing the OP did not think about being praised at least once while creating this thread.

The difference is, nobody but the db caldron was offended. It was a great gesture and it made me think as tom why I haven't given yet.

wow. good job. :)
i wish i can do the same. problem is, im in high school and living in the philippines. dont really know if i can do anything. :\ i just pray since im the religious type of kid. :p

and regards to the troll topic, who cares if he posted it on the forums? i mean, this thread may get taken down (though there's no really sense in doing so) but hes just spreading the idea that maybe we should hold off our iPad 2 purchase worries and focus on other things. :|

reading this surely made me realize i should try to do something about it seeing as how i have about $700 left in my savings.

kudos.

OP ... nice of you to donate such a large amount ... even as little as $10 helps ... Japan has a lot to deal with on this one.

Like I said- I guess that's one possible good effect. Getting 'offended' is a bit over the top, I don't see how you could take that from it, but I just understand in that I don't think the guy is a troll or db for thinking the post (especially creating his own thread for it) is a bit out of place. Looks like some people agree- if it makes us all db's just for that, so be it I guess : /

this guy. wins at life.

Gotta agree with the 'troll'. I've donated for many causes (including the Japan disaster, though not of the iPad cost level) but not once have went out of my way to tell people about it. Just seems odd and self-centered.

Love the anger in your earlier post. You don't find someone saying "I hope I don't regret it" offensive? Why would you regret that? Helping people who have been ravaged by a tragedy is something one could regret?

That is why I find the post offensive, not to mention the fact the OP felt it necessary to post it on a forum.

Good job.

And to the naysayers, so what if he made a thread looking for a little praise? I think he deserves a few electrons spilt in his honor. And it might inspire others to do the same.

That's really awesome of you, and in 40 years from now, you'll remember what you did for a country that's devastated -- where you probably won't remember the iPad 2 launch.

It's great to hear about people being unselfish -- especially around a launch that's rife with whiners. ;)

guys im not here for praise :p just wanted to maybe give people the idea :)

The title of your thread.

Your post on it.

And you didn't want praise?

I agree with the calderone, why go through the trouble of making a thread just to broadcast to Macrumors that you donated??
........

What a better thread would have been, was.... Hey guys, I think some should consider to donate their iPad money towards Japan, they need it more then us.

That would be a more appropriate thread IMO. Just donate and move along, you weren't the first and definitely not the last.

***To the people personally attacking calderone, you need to read forum rules, and consider your actions, cause your acting no better then what you thought he was acting like.

You just did.

Uh, yeah. That IS the one good part.

It's pretty much the only reason to do it that I can think of, actually. So he came here solely to try to inspire people to donate.

And yet you think that's a bad thing? Sorry, but I don't understand that.

I'm not going to donate $500, but the OP's post just inspired me to donate $10. Please tell me how that's a bad thing.

read my other posts. I said it later :p

And you sourpusses would have come back with, "Put your money where your mouth is. Don't tell me how to spend my hard earned money."

And we'd be right back here ... there's just no pleasing some people
