Love the anger in your earlier post. You don't find someone saying "I hope I don't regret it" offensive? Why would you regret that? Helping people who have been ravaged by a tragedy is something one could regret?

That is why I find the post offensive, not to mention the fact the OP felt it necessary to post it on a forum.

Yup. I agree. Good cause donating, but creating a thread is self-centered. No need for smirky rolly eye emoticons either. People dying is no witty matter.

I did not send any money to Japan, but I did eat some tacos on Saturday. They tasted great.

OP, kudos for giving so generously and for reminding people to think about donating.

If all the people who own or are going to purchase an iPad (1 or 2) donated even $5 or $10 it would be a huge sum of money to help those in Japan who have been slammed by 3 major disasters at once.

Texting works (for Red Cross you can text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10) but I have read that donating directly through the Red Cross website (Redcross.org) gets the money there somewhat faster as it is more direct. Any way is a good way, though! There are also many other good charities, but make sure you check them out first. Scam artists unfortunately abound during tragedies such as this.

What a better thread would have been, was.... Hey guys, I think some should consider to donate there iPad money towards Japan, they need it more then us.

That would be a more appropriate thread IMO. Just donate and move along, you weren't the first and definitely not the last.

And since this forum is what it is, no doubt some posters would have countered by telling the OP to donate first. Nothing wrong with leading by example. Maybe he should have just posted "who's with me?" for the text, but telling people about it in order to influence behavior IS commendable.

And you sourpusses would have come back with, "Put your money where your mouth is. Don't tell me how to spend my hard earned money."

And we'd be right back here ... there's just no pleasing some people

Thats good we can leave it to you, to know what every "sourpuss" is going to say on a thread .

All I said was the Thread starter could have worded it differently from the beginning, thats all. Kinda like a future reminder ;)

Alright Calderone, I can meet you half way. I have friends and family in Japan too, and I can see how one could be offended by someone having the possibility of regretting donating money to such a disaster.

What I don't find offensive however, is the OPs original declaration of what he did. It's selfless and commendable. MacRumors is a community (or a self-help group for people suffering from severe Apple OCD, haven't decided yet). He has a right to post , as you have a right to reply. I don't think he was looking for our accolades.

Then donate the money and be on your way. Don't come looking for a pat on the back.

You call me a troll, yet here is the OP pretending as if he has made the ultimate sacrifice. I have friends and family in Japan, so don't play the troll card on me. But I find the OPs post quite offensive.

Thank You!

Except it isn't selfless. The thread was framed as a desire for praise. From the title to the wording of the post.

Altruism goes out the window when you come looking for kudos.

this guy. wins at life.

:p

anyhow, back on topic. i fear this thread closing down since it went from using your iPad 2 money to donate (which is still part of the ipad general thread) to a 'deh trollz is wrong' or 'no deh op is wrong' discussion. :(

Big woop. Did you take an ad out in the paper?

I hope I don't regret it "rolleyes" wth is that supposed to mean?

^^ this.

Personally, hats off if you gave some. No need to give up your full amount though. IMO, you're better off giving some and getting your iPad. Doing so you will support their economy as many of the chips inside likely came from Japan.

Listen, I find it offensive that you attack somebody for mentioning they gave their iPad money to A good cause. I personally doubt very much you have a single relative who lives in Japan. I think you somehow get off on ridiculing nice people and it somehow makes you feel superior in some small way.

I'm pretty sure the people of Japan don't give a toss if we sing the OP's praises from the MacRumors mountain tops as long as his money buys them supplies. What does it matter that he might have been seeking a little praise?

Any other assumptions? Or how about some more of that anger?

Very commendable, but seeking praise for charity is kind of tacky.

Regardless, your motives don't doesn't matter to the people in Japan who can desperately use the money.

I'd take this thread (even if the OP wanted to praise his action) over the "Will my iPad arrive late due to the EQ in Japan?" any time of the day!!!

Well done OP, just next time watch your wording with sensitive matters like this. ;)

maybe apple will donate some of the ipad 2 profit they are making and give it to japan.

prob not, but they are giving any money donated through iTunes. Personally, I don' have a credit card (I am a teen) but I will give itunes gift card money (this works too right?). So, that is one way of helping!

they needed it more. hope I wont regret it
Nate, it is good you decided to do this. Even if getting kudos from an internet forum was your motivation, it doesn't matter. What matters is you helped people. Not all of us with relatives in Japan think you are a bad person for doing so.

I hope that eventually you are able to get yourself an iPad 2 and enjoy it too.
