32s are generally the most popular. Seeing as gold in any size still seems to be leaving at a snail's pace, one has to wonder if Apple has done anything at all. At this rate if Apple doesn't step it up, the backlog will run straight into next year.

It was interesting to see all those orders all of a sudden reversing status. I wonder if it was a simple miscalculation in stock, or if there was something larger behind it. For all we know, that batch could have been defective.

The problem must lie in how they make the gold phones, gold. Maybe the painting process still hasn't been perfected. On the inside of the device, it's the exact same as a silver or space gray.

If that is indeed the problem, it's a damn shame they didn't try and perfect it first.

If its a manufacturing defect or yield detractor, that would explain a lot. Either way, I'd like to know what the hold up is. Seriously, if I could get a silver 32gb right now, and if given the option, I'd take it.

It has arrived....

Ordered 16GB 5s Grey on 9/28 and UPS just dropped it off. The thrill of the hunt is over and I have my prize. I almost want to send it back just so I can track it again! Maybe I should have gotten the 32GB... :D

The torch has been passed and it falls to you all. Best of luck and thanks to everyone for making this such an interesting process. This forum will be connected to my new phone... and that is pretty funny!

Another example of Apples's failure. Good for you.

Agreed - I really wish there was a way for us to find out what the hold up was really due to. Wishful thinking, I know, but it would help put my mind at ease just a little bit.

wow just checked the site and it says new orders are still available to ship in 2-3 weeks for the gold iphones..

Something is definitely up with that model. Either they are catching up extremely fast with demand or something went terribly wrong and they are pumping them out as they though they would..

Doesn't make sense though, many of you ordered on the 20th..I ordered on the 25th. Someone orders today and technically Apple is telling them they are getting it the same time as ours.

Someone earlier today said they placed an order for a gold 16gb and was quoted "available to ship in 2-3 weeks" and delivery by Nov 5th-11th. So technically they'll get theirs a week later than hours, but not by much!

Driver said he started the day with 20 iPhones to deliver today and still has 14 that people were not home. :(

As every day goes by, Apple's (or should I say Foxconn's) ineptitude becomes further exposed. They have had plenty of practice making the Silver and (to a slightly lesser degree) the Space Gray. These are colours which were used last year, so there's really is no excuse for them to come out lousily.

I have a feeling that every gold phone, must start out as a silver one. They take some of those silver ones, and coat them with some sort of Gold pigment. Either the gold pigment goes on blotchy, or doesn't adhere completely, causing a uneven coating. Therefore in either scenario, they are deemed as "defective".

I know it sucks... one would think that Foxconn should have that process down by now.:)

Well, sorry to hear that.:) Unfortunately... those are the game rules, and when you buy from Apple (or anyone else for that matter) you have to abide by them.

But what makes this really suck is that ordinarily, your temp charge goes through in a couple days. If a product isn't available, the charging company will drop the charge quickly. Apple is holding your money for a crazy amount of time with no promise of a ship date.

Of course Apple is ridiculous... but unfortunately (whether you like it or not) that is what Apple does. The minute you put an order through with Apple (indirectly) that practice is being agreed to.

I'm not trying to sound smug here... just being honest. :)

It would be interesting to know what the factory is doing this week. If supposedly everyone was given a shipping date of early next week, they must be stockpiling.

I'm beyond oissed this is ridiculous

Agreed. I still have a ship date of the 18th with the delivery by the 25th. Do I really think this will happen ? I really don't know. This Friday will be 4 long weeks. What a crock.

Do you really want to stick it to Apple?

If you can hold out till Friday, wait and see if it will ship. If it does, it does. If it doesn't then call up Apple and cancel it through them, over the phone. Give them hell, and see what comes out of it. They will have failed to meet a deadline, then you can nail them to the wall for it.
