That's good news. I'm feeling more hopeful.
I only wish it wasn't so dang difficult to get information out of Apple about the DLC coating for this watch.
I want the glossy look, but I'm also worried about scratches and dings. My S0 Space Black doesn't have a single mark on it. My concern is they did something similar to what they did with the Jet Black iPhone, and Apple says this phone is more easily subject to fine scratches/abrasions. Don't want that for the watch.
Well, it can't be the same coating as the iPhone - the iPhone is anodized aluminum - the space black watch is stainless steel.
It is frustrating that Apple's being so tongue-in-cheek about it though. Seems silly to remove the information from the online sources.
Heh. Don't be a martyr!I agree, I already ran my new SS against the same point that scratched the crap out of my old sport on the granite counter top like a dummy and not a mark. On case or glass the granite didn't mark it all where it ruined my sport like a week ago (applecare+ replacement ftw).
I know that isn't directly proving anything really especially the dlc but thought I would put it out there.
Heh. Don't be a martyr! There's particulates in some concretes and bricks which are approaching diamond hardness and can scratch the DLC coating.
Just for fun, I sent a message to the AppleSupport twitter account. We'll see what they say. I want a damn document, not just their opinion!![]()
any update on this? how are people's black stainless holding up? (series 2)
considering getting the black stainless but want to make sure it's not more susceptible to scratches especially since you can't just polish it off.
Agree with your assessment, can't see any scratches on mine after owning since launch, have brushed against numerous objects tooLooks as amazing as day one and I have already hit the same corner that scratched my sport just a couple weeks ago with no damage what-so-ever. I think that they aren't talking about (have it listed or whatever) because it is normal for a high end watch to include this type of finish. So, they made a point of making it known when they were first coming to market with the idea of having a fancy smart watch (which i really think the apple watch can pull of with the correct band link my new Black SS link). Now that they have got the news out there that they produce the black SS this way there is no need to reiterate the fact every version. Of course this is all assumption but mine still looks perfect.
Yep, I had sent them a message on the 19th. Just sent them another....and did a public tweet using the #applesupport hashtag...calling them out for not responding after 8 days! (and that I want an official Apple document, not their opinion)I left a support question for Apple on IS it DLC on Wed, 9/21. It remains unanswered. Don't know if they just decided to be silent, or, it's not, and it will be an issue like the report that the 7+ sapphire lens cover is NOT sapphire..
Apple COULD easily clear up these questions, and that they don't is a disservice to their loyal, or frankly any, customers.
Was worried about this but got the Space Black SS today and compared it to my Series 1 and it looks identical. Think it may be just that the marketing materials don't highlight it anymore.
An Apple employee assured me that AW2 does have the DLC and I tend to believe it because I have accidentally bumped mine a few times at work and it hasn't made a single scratch on it.I have both the original DLC covered stainless and the new AW2 in Black stainless and they look a little different to me. I will try to take an image but doubt the image would show the slight difference.

Sorry but bumping it a few times does not prove that it has DLC.
Sometimes Apple employees tell us what we want to know. It strikes me very strange that the "DLC" has been purged from the Apple web site.
You're right...if I were you I wouldn't buy it and take the chance, considering how expensive they are. I haven't had any issues with mine but maybe I haven't bumped it hard enough to see the difference between one of my normal stainless steel watches and this one. I keep updating if it shows damage after a while.Sorry but bumping it a few times does not prove that it has DLC.
